    Hi Ms Mad Lemon,
    I am the person who designed this mixer for Soundcraft around 2014 and was I Soundcraft until I left the company in early 2016. I agree with you on the power switch... A few other sacrifices that pained me as well... But I get such joy seeing people use the Signature Series consoles. They hold a very special place in my heart so to see someone enjoying it so much is brilliant.
    I laughed very hard at the manual being included with the lamp but not the very complicated mixer lol
    Cheers!

      The funny thing is that I never even noticed there was no power button until I watched this video. I hooked mine up to a Furman power conditioner with a few other pieces of equipment and just use the power button on it. I wish someone would make a video that runs through setting up or getting the most out of a Signature MTK in conjunction with Adobe Audition CC. I'll figure it out, but it's taking a while. I also wish the spare USB port doubled as a convenient data pass through. It would be nice to just pop a USB stick in right there and transfer music files back and forth.

      Cool to hear from you! I've loved this mixer. About that on/off: would it be kosher to have an external on/off?

      As far as I'm concerned, you did a fabulous job on designing this - and I happened to not find this mixer "complicated" at all.
      And your USB interface implementation is brilliant and simple to use. Absolutely no fumbling around with anything, the channels just show up in the computer and it all works without head scratching or headache.
      Ok, so certain jobs/inputs are limited to specific channel pairs. I like it - for any minor loss in flexibility you more than make up for in simplicity of operation. Maybe on a much bigger mixer, this might be a critique point, but not here - for a 12 channel mixer, everything is 'right-sized' and well appointed. I really wanted the Zoom cause it looks light weight, but it actually isn't nearly as light as it looks. And the 'digital nature' of the zoom is stymied by specific pitfalls and omissions, that rob it of any potential advantage it might have had over your analogue design. If it comes to matching the word "complicated" to a mixer, I'd suggest Presonus: In their drive to create synergies with Studio One, they blurred the lines between mixer and computer, software and hardware. If you end up having a problem, it can be a bear of a time to even figure out WHERE the problem really occurs. The wish I still have is a Signature 16 MKT version, because the 12 is a bit tight and the 22 MKT is more than I need.

      By chance that @Sean reads this -- I'm on MacOS and have a 12MTK. On my windows machine (and in other videos) I see this device is viewed by the os as having channels (paired 1-2, 3-4, etc) as separate system audio devices. ON my macOS this is not the case. Am I missing something or is this indeed the design?

      I Have The Signature 10 its a incredible designed mixer, the quality, the functions are just amazing for the price on this mixer, i'm a solo artist singing with backintracks,
      Soundcraft make the best, this id say is one of the best mixers i have owned, the EQ is so warm on the channels, i have used dynacord in the past and Dynacord cost 4 x the price.
      id like to go over to digital one day but i would miss hands on you get with a analogue mixer. Well Done Sean Karpwicz amzing mixer.
      Miss Mad Lemon a fantastic review, i enjoyed very much watching your review.

    I used to do sound technology back in high school which involve sound stage set up for concerts. My school had a Yamaha 16 channel mixer which we used a lot for our performances and we would set it up with a multi core cable that has XLR plugs at the mixer end and a DI box at the stage end, which the amplified instruments and microphones are plugged into. It was the one subject in school that I really excelled at and thoroughly enjoyed! 🙂

    Great video! I have the Signature 22 MTK. I got it about 2 years ago and I love it! I have a semi-professional recording studio and needed the larger console for projects. It's not all that uncommon for higher end recording equipment to not have power switches. I have some rack mounted gear that doesn't have power switches such as Lexicon. Companies just assume they will be plugged in to power conditioners/ surge protectors that have power switches.

    Just so warm, loved the way your presentation just had me smiling and laughing " freak'n Hot" I kepted laughing I just throw the manual and just dived straight in. Analog and how you explained EQ on this desk and the gentle way hey no power switch come on! Just a joy those little personal touches. When you giggle watching it's invitng. I think someone has been tech talking and knows about recording. I might mod it and put a power switch in "come on Soundcraft"... Again just so much like my way of thinking... old Vu meters oh my walkman commodores and hi tech Mini Disk it just goes to show the younger generation plug ins are not the B-all end All...have a happy day.

    i just got this mixer and was a little bummed when i found out how much of a pain it is that it doesnt record the FX into a DAW if you are recording into a computer. When you hooked up the audio "to our ears" is that just from headphone into the mic input of your camera? Im definitely going to check out more of your page. as soon as i realized you make old chiptunes I subscribed. Fantastic video as ever. I have a Mackie ProFX 12 which is very similar and you described how to set up and use this type of desk so well. I like the addition of the coloured slider caps, very good idea and I’m going to use that on my Mackie desk too, thanks. Great tracks by the way and the remixes on the Amiga sounded fab. I was an ST boy back in the day due to the built in MIDI ports, but appreciate the Amiga was a much better spec’d machine for video and sound. I always enjoy your videos, keep up the great work.

    Hi MsMadLemon, very nice (and funny) review. I really like the features of this mixer but I notice you mention two issues encountered. One related to the echo FX leaking a bit even when not enabled, and the second on the onboard USB port which looks like short-circuiting the FX LEDs. Have you explored the issus with Soundcraft's support? Do you know if all units behave like that or if it is just the unit you received? Thx

    Hello, really need your help and advice! I'm considering getting this console. The issue I've seen is people commenting that when routing a track to this console, you can't feed the EQ to the track and process it through the EQ, meaning all you're left with is the faders and the effects? Is this true?? Like if I route drums into this console and mess with the EQ to my liking then print the drum track, it'll print without my EQ adjustments?? So confused.

    Hi! I just got my mtk12 and I’m excited about it. In the manual it says “this equipment must be earthed” , unfortunately I have no earthed connections al home (I’m planning to build a few). Besides equipment damage for voltage overload and electroshock (which sounds pretty bad) do you think it can run performance problems or so...? I’ve found that the headphone out is a bit noisy at 75% which might be normal, but also the gain of the mic preamps can’t drive a regular dynamic mic without taking the gain to high so it starts to add noise too; i can’t even see the wave form in my recordings clearly, do you think it might have something to do with the non earthed connection? Thanks!

    Got a Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK as my first mixer and the volume is VERY quiet when playing guitars through it (either mic or DI) and going out to my KRK speakers or Headphones. The Gain, Channel Fader (routed to master and group 1-2) and Master are all cranked to the max. Sometimes it reaches -3 max volume on the Master Meter, but that's it. Is there something I'm missing here? I heard these mixers were quiet to help clipping, but this is barely audible.

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  4 года назад +1

      Hmm it sounds as if there's impedance issues, or that the guitar needs a preamp before putting it into the Soundcraft console.Perhaps putting it into an external preamp and then from the preamp putting it into one of the inputs? I've not tried this before as I play acoustic.

  • @krazyhartin
    @krazyhartin 6 лет назад +1

    The USB LED light might be causing an impedance interference (or the lack of) with the controls causing the settings to turn on as you've shown in the video. LED bulbs put in older cars can cause similar problems and can be fixed by adding a resistor to the LED circuit, it should then behave correctly. I like your videos, I enjoy watching them :).

  • @KeritechElectronics
    @KeritechElectronics Год назад +1

    Ha! I just got pointed to this episode from your blog, loving it :). You got yourself a nice mixer. Hope you're still happy with it.
    I once worked with a similar Soundcraft (older model with no DSP) and the built-in USB interface was a godsend for what I used it for. I did a small DIY alternative music concert where I needed to stream audio from a remote room to the mixer outside, while recording the output on my laptop. The interface is a typical PCM2902 and it never failed me using GNU/Linux. It's even more powerful now, with Pipewire replacing Pulseaudio, while offering JACK style patching of audio streams. None of the loopback module shenanigans I had to do back then.
    What I absolutely love about analog mixers is that when you learn one, you'll pretty much know others too, just by looking at them. Some adjustment ranges and features will surely vary, but you will know what is gain, parametric EQ, effect send, pan, PFL etc. Same for oscilloscopes: you know the input coupling, timebase, trigger etc. on an analog scope. A switch is a switch, a knob is a knob, you look at it, you know what it does... Digital mixers (and scopes), on the other hand, with all their buttons and menus - have a very inconsistent user experience: you have to learn the new one from scratch.
    What a lovely black Walkman and MD! @Techmoan would be proud.
    Back in my campus radio days, our reporters used a MD player/recorder and two Iriver MP3 recorders for field work. There was a system for booking and borrowing the gear; it was all in the 2000s when cellphones were still dumb, Nokia 3310 style... A thing of the past, not necessarily a thing of beauty. To think that any modern smartphone can record good quality audio - eliminating the need for sharing the gear, save for microphones.
    Replaceable colored fader handles out of the box? Definitely a lovely touch.

    this is very handy because let you send and return to your computer different channel of digital audio without an external audiocard, you can record every channel separately not only the stereo bus, and remix the tracks using the internal sapphire analogue eq.
    Only drawback....internal converters are not super audio quality but they are ok, and it doesnt let you record higher than 48 kHz, so you cannot work at new standards 88.2 or 96 kHz, wich halves the audio latency and have better sync for video standards, but is not a very big issue.

    • @kyma1999x
      @kyma1999x 6 лет назад +1

      i saw the video, to record later your tracks you need a mac with core audio or a pc (i suppose you need drivers) hook up usb to host directly to computer and then in your daw make active the busses, you will find numered input and output usb audio busses so 1-2 mirrors channels 1-2, and so on....last mirrors the sum of master out to record the mix of entire console on a stereo track with also effects....and on the channel strip you have a button to send audio from daw directly to the channel so you can use it like mixing console or analogue summing unit.
      it is pretty straighforward, but you need a modern daw to record this way I dont think it is possibile to have milky trackers channels from amiga to separate mixing channels of console.
      if you wanna record the mix to analogue tape I feel the best way could be using grp 1-2, they are made for those kind of tasks.

    hey there, one question: if you jack it to ableton, how many seperate tracks do you have? In one video the guy from Soundcraft says its two in, two out, in another video he claims the full 12 range. I am confused. I want to use it for my analogue chain, but would I look for something else if there are only two recording channels. Like that, I also could use a simple interface..

      i've not actually tried this in Ableton as i dont use it for that, but for my own equipment.

    Affectively I can dump my audio interface if I get this mixer? Will it record multi-track audio directly to a usb hard drive like the QSC digital mixers? It is ridiculous that such a product doesn't have a power switch! What gives Soundcraft????

    • @MikeRenouf

      I dont think you can just plug a hard drive into the usb out. You'd need a DAW.

      I don't know why she voices her video as if she was trying to pick up a cute guy in some club "giggle giggle, look how adorable I sound" To me personally, it was distracting and a touch annoying, because I found it over the top and incongruent with a mixer review. If I sound judgemental about it, maybe - its obviously none of my business, if she wants to sound flirty 24/7.
      But if she came to my house and was continuously like that, I'd tell her to go in the garden and play with the flowers.
      To put it another way; if that's just how she naturally is, kudos - stay the way you are. If its a gimmick to get viewers - please stop it. I can't watch your video properly, while I'm involuntarily rolling my eyes.

    • @MsMadLemon

      @@Pharesm This is how I am all the time naturally, I know i'm an acquired taste but Just because i'm happy and giggle doesnt mean i'm trying to pick up guys and be flirty, not sure why this is the default accusation always as there's so much more to life than flirting and picking up guys.
      Fact is, I just have a different personality to you. If you find this video too distracting and it makes your eyes roll, then, well i'm not a people pleaser so my personality won't change. I guess this video is not for you then.
      Hope you found what you were looking for nontheless.

    Did you ever contacted Soundcraft about that usb light isssue? And the no power switch? what the freak is that all about??

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  Год назад +1

      The USB light issue seems to be sorted when you try another usb lamp, it must be just that particular lamp... Yeah no power switch is annoying, but at least the designer responded and explained that it was a sacrifice.

  • @theeoddname
    @theeoddname 4 года назад

    By chance that somebody knows the answer to this question -- I'm on MacOS and have a 12MTK. On my windows machine (and in other videos) I see this device is viewed by the os as having channels (paired 1-2, 3-4, etc) as separate system audio devices. ON my macOS this is not the case. Am I missing something or is this indeed the design?
