    The fact that US dealers don't want to sell EV's because they will lose their service revenue should tell customers something.

      I bought my Ioniq 6 direct from Hyundai Australia, on-line. I did not test drive nor even see the car beforehand. I did watch about 20-30 RUclips video reviews though. The car was handed over to me through a local dealer, but their involvement only extended to selling me an after-market ceramic paint protection treatment. I love this car too.

      US dealers don't want to sell EV's because not enough people want to buy them, and hanging onto a showroom full of EVs that aren't selling very well is expensive. A FACT, that car manufacturers have realised to their dismay, as they scramble to resuscitate their ICE production lines.

    If the Chinese EV brands were available in the US the entire EV adoption would accelerate hugely. Variety of models, build quality, technology, at attractive prices would advance the take up so big it would surely be market shifting. Thailand has opened the EV sector and welcomed the Chinese makers and the direction and progress is impressive. Most Chinese manufacturers establishing production facilities. Legacy Japanese makers under big threat. I have a Tesla model 3 and an MG Cyberster. Great EV environment minus the divisive politics surrounding EV adoption in USA.

      How is the Cyberster? Looks amazing!

    • @sunrisejak2709
      @sunrisejak2709 3 месяца назад +3

      @@adda58 To be honest I get delivery of the Cyberster Friday. 😊 I've had 2 test drives and placed my order Dec 2023. The car is pretty impressive. Not an all out sports car but a really good overall Grand Tourer. The fit and finish is amazing. SAIC has over the past decades built cars in China for the premium German makers. So they really know how to build a quality car. SAIC/MG have made the Cyberster their "Halo car" or "flagship" car so I think they are ensuring it meets expectations as they have a lot riding on this model release. I think the drive train in my Tesla dual motor feels a tiny bit more refined but the short test drives of the Cyberster showed a lot of effort was put into all aspects of the car. The doors are actually more than just a gimmick. They work surprisingly well and can be moved manually. One option that MG has omitted was a function to move the car forward and backwards with the remote. The convertible top is sourced from the supplier to the BMW Z4 so it's the same piece. BMW Thailand sells about 110 Z4s per year. The order book for the Cyberster apparently sits at 1000 units. The first 250 have arrived and are going through PDI before delivery this week. In Thailand the MGs come with "lifetime" warranty on the battery, motors, and controllers. I'll be interested in reading the "fine print". 😁 I'm a petrol head (and from Detroit) with lots of cool cars in my history. But somehow the EV thing fits for me and in particular the Chinese are damn good at this game. My Tesla does 0-60 in like 4.2 and that's quick. The Cyberster at sub 3.4 is amazing. In my test drive I admit the suspension didn't like aggressive behavior but was aimed more at supple, compliant and comfortable side of things. That's fine with me. By the way I have 2 charging possibilities at my home. A wallbox fitted to my distribution panel that also has a full house solar system and a wallbox fitted directly and exclusively to a special Time Of Use meter so the off peak rates very cheap. Sorry if that was more than you asked but I guess I have too much time on my hands! Cheers,,,

      @@adda58 Now about 5000 km on the Cyberster. It's a very nice car. Well designed and performs great. Although It's a step below the Tesla in software and user interface. The acceleration, handling, stopping, grip, and overall ride quality is quite good. The convertible top works great and the scissors doors actually are an elegant and good solution. In "comfort mode" it operates on the rear motor only. Fast but yet efficient. In "Sport mode" it operates with dual motors, 4 wheel drive and over 500 hp. It's like having 2 cars in one. The Bose sound system is exemplary and I'm really happy with the car. Very cool.

      Tesla sales were down the last quarter in part because OEM’s, Ford GM Hyundai were all dumping their electric vehicles at drastic reduced prices, thus losing even thousands more per vehicle. Once the OEM’s have cleared their electric inventory Tesla sales should go back up. Also a number of people like me are holding off on buying a model Y with the model Y refresh coming within the next eight months. A bit of the Osborne effect in play. Tesla is in very good shape, in fact it’s in the catbird seat. 😊

    The Leaf is only a disaster for Nissan dealers because you had to take your outside the dealers to get the battery replaced. Had they supported it with more modern battery upgrades, and done that at a reasonable price, you'd have taken it to a dealership to get the range back up or even increase it. Remember, it was them that designed it to not be something they could upgrade. There's no reason cars couldn't be made with lots of upgradeable parts. Want a better dashboard or glove box? That's modular, that's available. Also, they could easily have just designed a better vehicle, kept updating the models, improved their manufacturing as Tesla has done, and made the vehicles profitably and much cheaper.

    Kinda laughable that the US is complaining about subsidies. The US was willing to give Vinfast $1.2B in subsidies to a company that sells less than 100K cars per year worldwide. Just think of how much total auto subsidies in the US must be if they are willing to spend that much money on a 3rd rate minor car company. How much money must Ford, GM, Tesla, Toyota, Hyundai and other major car manufacturers be getting.
    In comparison, BYD got $3.7B in subsidies and they sell more than 3M cars per year.
    The US also subsidizes EVs at $7500 per EV sold. Add up all subsides and on a per car basis, the US subsidizes more than China does.
    The same stupid arguments are made about solar subsidies. The figure I heard is that China subsidizes up to 9 times as much as the US for solar panels. What people don't realize is that this means the US subsidizes FAR more per panel than China since China has about 80% of the world market for panels and the US has somewhere around 1-2%.
    Whenever you see any subsidy figures in any industry, you have to convert into a per unit amount in order to have a proper comparison.

    • @joehowe9532
      @joehowe9532 3 месяца назад +1

      US government is giving subsidies to individuals who buy EV’s to perpetuate EV’s especially those made with components made in the US! They are not subsidizing US auto makers in order to dump their product in foreign markets at below wholesale prices! Two completely different things. 😮

    • @celanian8188
      @celanian8188 3 месяца назад

      @@joehowe9532 Stunning ignorance. The US taxes US based multinational corps 1/2 the rate of domestic US companies. This is a MASSIVE export subsidy for US companies. The US HEAVILY subsidizes agricultural exports which is dumped overseas especially in Africa often at a loss.
      China sells EVs outside the country at HIGHER prices than domestically. For example, the BYD Seal is sold at about $23K domestically but about $45K in Europe (pre tariff increase). This is exactly the opposite of what you are claiming.

Because at the moment I have a diesel car that I only fill up once a month, well if my car was already electric with 1,000km of range I would also only need to charge it once a month, which would be very good for the charging infrastructure, and also for the battery, since a battery with 1,000 charge cycles would last at least 50 years, considering +-20 full charges per year (1,000/20=50)

    Fails to address the elephant in the room regarding Chinese EVs - they have benefited from huge state subsidies for the last 10 years, which is very well-documented.
    Such economic backing is not conducive to fair competition on the open market. Hence tariffs are a means of leveling the playing field.

      Well, as far as I know, European cars are subsidized as well and still they're failing to be serious competition to the Chinese EV. Maybe because they don't want it. They rather continue selling turbodiesels if they got the chance to.

    • @armuk
      @armuk 3 месяца назад +2

      @@worldeconomicfella3228 Incorrect. Consumer EV subsidies exist of course, but European regulations prohibit state aid to commercial enterprises. Whereas the large-scale, long-term financial and regulatory support Chinese EV makers received from the Chinese state is widely known. It was even a core element of their key 5 year economic plans.
      One can argue that cheap Chinese EVs would help EV uptake and benefit environmentally. But there is no question economically they have had significant anticompetitive advantages.

    Tariffs are PUNITIVE - not preventative. Nor are they the encouragers of commerce. In the short term they raise consumer prices in the Nation imposing Tariffs. In the long term they can cause intended industries to collapse due to lack of Government support and no skilled labor to take up the challenge, Tariffs already imposed on China have both strengthened China's will but bolstered their internal infrastuctures. Tariffs are a failure for the imposer.

    The China thing is not just feelings. China imposed tariffs on Australian goods, saying we were flooding the market with cheap goods. The Courts ruled in our favour, but they did not remove the tarrifs. They destroyed the wine industry. Plus, they are supporting Russia in the war with Ukraine. Tarrifs are a way to impose sanctions on China to get them to help end the war.

    A petrol hybrid is the best way to go as these electric cars hitting the market at the moment present older technology compared to what is coming. The other point to mention is software, when plugging your electric car into a charger there is a great deal of software handshaking between charger and electric car. The first point is what size battery is your car and then what state of charge is the traction battery at. Of course before this you must provide the external charger with your account details so the charging costs can be charged to your account, so at this point the charging company know where you are in the country and pay per mile come to mind at this point as well. Now once the external charger has all this information it will decide what current is necessary to charge your car and this is a grey area so we hope that the software makers have this software sorted out and despite all the wonderful display data we don’t actually know how much current is being sent from the external charger to your electric car exactly. As we all know the higher the current the more heat is developed inside the battery traction pack and so the liquid cooling system must control the heat in software. To put petrol into a hybrid battery
    car its just a case of opening the petrol flap putting the nozzle of the petrol pump into the petrol tank neck and fill the petrol tank up and then place the petrol pump nozzle back into its holder and close the petrol flap and pay for the petrol dispensed. All done in less than 5 min and no software involved.

      The machine pumping the fuel still has to be authorised using software whether you pay at the pump or in the shop. The amount you pay is measured by software and your payment, even if you pay cash involves software. The dispensing of fuel involves software no matter what fuel it is.

    • @alanhowemusic2457
      @alanhowemusic2457 3 месяца назад

      @@stulop Thank you for your comments. Yes you are correct but I know that petrol is being dispensed and I know when the tank is full this is all under human control and in all only takes 5 min of my life. I don’t need a pastry or a coffee and a comfort break as well before the electric car traction battery is at least 80% charged which is at least 30 min of my life I can do something else and not wait around or queue up waiting for a charger to be free, Oh and by the way the charging operation of a hybrid is done using the manufacturers exclusive software only and has no external charger software intervention, so that’s very reassuring regarding the longevity of the small battery inside the hybrid car.
      Petrol Hybrid cars make a great deal of sense at the moment and that’s why new cars sales hybrids are way out in front of electric car sales. It’s only the fleet management companies providing the bulk of new electric car sales. Private and second hand electric cars sales are not meeting expectations.
