It will be quite bizarre when in less than 50 or so years we'll be able to look at back at film that's a hundred years old in infinitely better quality than this and with sound.
@@vksasdgaming9472 Yes his brother Hardeen sure did perform this. Hardeen was the first to escape the straightjacket in front of an audience. Yeah his performances are legendary. Both of those guys are talented souls. I’m glad you know the history about Hardeen doing this escape because that is awesome. Wish you well ⭐️
@@MalikMahdi23 When your brother is one of best of all time it is hard to be taken seriously even if you are about as good. If I remember right Hardeen had to place his arms in specific order to do this escape while Houdini could do it both ways.
@@vksasdgaming9472 You’re absolutely right Sir. That is what made Houdini spectacular because he can do things with his body that a lot of people are not able to do
You know, hearing all the stories about his amazing escapes, I was kind of expecting some suave smooth escape... Instead it just looks like a madman on crack who'd been arrested n managed to wriggle his way free XD
Houdini first got the idea to do a strait jacket escape when he visited an insane asylum and saw a man flailing around on the floor trying to get out of one. Houdini would take your snarky remark as a compliment. 🎉
@John Graham Wrong. He was first known as the King of Cards. 🎉 He did mostly every kind of magic there is, but he did become known as the Handcuff King later on.
If you look above him there's a rope going off on the angel, when the block and tackle gets to a certain height the weight start spinning around which prevents that . Have done this 3 times but nowhere near as high as this
I saw this footage on Encarta kid when i was young. And i was thinking of myself that this guy got imprisoned and strap on a jacket and then somehow he escaped. That is how i was thinking about it 🤔🤔
No filmed inserts, actors or film edits back then like today's "street performers" (I'm looking at YOU, Dynamo and David Blaine!) What you see is what you get.
Because people spent considerably more time outside and hats provided warmth (and social status). With the invention of the car people slowly started find them inconvenient because they had to be taken off every time you hop into one. Once JFK started making speeches publicly without wearing one (because he had to make a lot of trips between locations), people began to follow him and they faded away.
I love that this was recorded, that I can watch stuff from a hundred years ago

I feel very privileged to see it too

I love watching old film like this ...
@@usman710 no way in hell is this staying around for 100 years lol hopefully google is dead and buried by then
Okay but the fact that this was filmed almost a century ago is insane

you tube is the greatest thing EVER......thanks to all the collectors/archivists and uploaders
So grateful we had this kind of footage!
Houdini. Legend. Icon. Elated that this footage exists. Absolutely priceless. Amazing. American treasure, for sure.
He wasn't American
He was just amazingly bright 👍🏻
Well Done Mr H...you are a true master of your art.
One of the best escapes of all time. Houdini has a lot of skills. I love him very much 💗✨
Weirdly enough his brother Hardeen (Ferenc Weisz) also performed this same stunt. They say he was almost as good in it.

The most famous magician ever
Not a magician. An escapologist
Not sure how you can call this magic
he did a lot of magic tricks in his show. He would just do the straight jacket outside to promote the show

Genuine question, why are they all wearing hats?
It was common then to wear hats now you have to not wear hats inside or anything whereas it was patriotic or more normal to wear hats inside.
Genuine followup, why don't we anymore :'(
@@kokokretin prob just newer fashion
So How Did He Do It ?
Why the hell does everyone have on hats?? Was that a law back then??
