  • A short video showing the maching and the use cases of a repeatable mill stop.
    The stop can be removed for machining of the work piece and then remounted to locate the next work piece within a tenth or two. The stop will work on either side of the vise, and is adjustable enough to to handle a range of work piece sizes and shapes.

    I'm old, but new to machining, I had to laugh because I saw your mock up of your stop and said "wow, that looks complicated" and the next line from you was "as you can see from the render, it's a fairly simple design". It does look great and super practical tho. I also really like how you covered your mill with wood

    Clever idea with the stop for the stop. I'm totally going to have to steal this idea from you, thanks!

    I've never seen anyone chamfer a hole with a boring bar before! Very impressive Dan...

      Short of a CNC mill, it's about the only way to chamfer large holes on a mill.

    I love the stop's stop. It also solves the problem where the stop needs to be raised, lowered, extended and retracted as it just pivots in the same X position (providing the rear bar is level and parallel to the X axis). The facility to slide the rear bar to either side and the universal clamps to hold on various size vices are superb. A similar solution is the datum retaining vice stop which also retains it's X position when moved. It only has 3 parts but can't be removed as easily or able to work from both sides. Subscribed.

    Hi we really like your knee milling machine t-slot and table top protectors, they are nice these are the second time we have sen them in these RUclips videos.
    We like the paint color white or almond nice touch, also we like the bar round and those two mounting clamps on the back (out of the way) vise, love the remove and reinstall stop location for repeating yet able to remove this over and over again tolerance enough for that.
    Your design is well thought out, thank you for sharing this with us.

    I like the design, a mill stop has been on my list also, the feature that I think is neat is the intermediate stop so you can remove and replace the end stop. I probably do a version my self

      It's super helpful when you working on parts in a 5C collet block.

      I could see that. I printed the drawings today. I have a question do you think aluminum would make good brackets? I have a lot aluminum in stock that’s the correct size. Of course I’m going to Metal Supermarkets today to rummage in the scrap bin so I might find something

    • @Dans-hobbies
      @Dans-hobbies  5 лет назад

      @@JamesDedmon I only see one potential issue with aluminum, and that depends how much you use it, and how hard you crank down on the cap screws. After a lot of use the threads might pull out of the blocks.

    Really nice design! Just curious if you think the mounts could be made out of 6061 aluminum? I just finished converting a mill to CNC and am thinking about milling these from aluminum. Any thoughts?

    • @Dans-hobbies
      @Dans-hobbies  Год назад

      Yea, I think would work fine in aluminum, it will just wear a little faster.

    • @Dans-hobbies
      @Dans-hobbies  5 лет назад

      I'm not sure what you mean by removing the handle for head adjust. Everything can be adjusted mounted to the vise.

      @@Dans-hobbies the handle to move z axis is not installed ..?I have similar.mill and want to install power z axis motor.

    • @Dans-hobbies
      @Dans-hobbies  5 лет назад

      @@31pkelly ok, now I understand. I never use the handle because my mill came with a power z axis. All it really is is a gearhead motor that mounts directly to the screw and then has a up down knob on the control box.

      Depending on where you are from and who you ask, you will find it has many names. Mill stop, vise stop, part stop, work stop, and I'm sure many others I'm not aware of.
