She is amazing, but no one sings this song as Anna Murphy, her voice range on the original version of this song slays.
I'm not sure if your taste is tainted due to your emotional attachment to Anna.
While I agree that Anna's version touches me more, I'm not sure wether Anna did a better technical job on this song.

Rebirth from eluveitie is very interesting, we can listen the 2 singers and beautiful non vocal instruments.
Rebirth would have a mix of her singing and his growls

i realy kind of prefer the older Eluvate when they sang in the retraced old Gaulish dialect on Epona for example
Yayy. Eluveitie is one of my favorite bands. I've seen them live a couple of times (with Anna and Fabienne), I love that haunting and nature-y feeling of a lot of their songs.

Fabienne is a great singer. She has a project named Illumishade, very good too.
One of the old members who was a singer for the band left to and started a band called Cellar Darling ,The Spell is definitely worth a listen

A bit unfair to judge Fabienne with Anna Murphy's song really. The song is a bit low for Fabienne range.

On the other hand, it just shows that she can do it even with songs not written with her in mind. I adore Anna, but Fabienne is equally good, and with the songs from Ategnatos, she's absolutely slaying it.
In my opinion, she is giving her touch to the music, not only trying to mimic Anna Murphy, who is used to hear Anna's version like me will prefer her version for sure.
@@Eluarelon in my humble opinion she tries too hard to imitate Anna and it really makes the song feel odd, Fabienne has an awesome voice, its just not displayed in this performance.
@@ProtoLolZz agreed. This song wasn't done with her abilities in mind. It was done with Anna's in mind. And it feels so foreign and wrong to hear this version. They need new music for this vocalist to really let her vocals shine through

Looks like a million people have already said it but without disrespect to the line up the song will never sound as good as it does with Anna Murphy. If you can find a video of Rose for Epona with Anna that would be terrific. Every time I listen to it I feel like I'm emotionally melting a bit, something about Anna's voice during that chorus sends chills down my spine and leaves me weak at the knees. Thank you so much for doing a reaction to Eluveitie though, such a wonderful band and it' brings tremendous joy to see them receive credit they so righteously deserve. Please do Silver Bride by Amorphis some time. Keep up the great work Beth!

Hi Beth, a few years ago, three of the long time Eluveitie members (including Anna Murphy who originally sang this song) left to form their own band - Cellar Darling. You should check them out some time!

Saw them in 2008 the first time they came to the UK on the Pagan Fest tour, crazy how the line-up is almost completely different now! Fabienne is rather excellent though.

Definitely need to check out Eluveitie - Rebirth, though I've come across a few live performances with some pretty bad sound issues. The mix at Rockpalast 2019 was pretty bad, I don't think the Hurdy Gurdy was even mic'd. Anyone have a link to a performance with good sound?

I'm sorry but Anna's version will always be my favorite. She did it in the beginning and was replaced along with others. The new vocalist has a great voice, but I still think Anna did this one better!
well, you know, it sounds different, no doubt. but fabi does NOT want to be a clone of anna.
I agree, Anna's version sounds better but it's also because the song was written for her vocal range. Fabienne's is lightly different, they don't shine in the same range of notes, that's why.
Nothing to be sorry about
I think it’s a pity that she will be forever compared less than favourably to Anna. She’s doing well. But good quality after situational excellence feels like a let down. Anna was so very good, that even though Fabienne songs this quite well, it feels like the song has been taken down a peg.

I don't know if you can find good live footage, but I've been able to see them live twice :)
Once in an open-air festival the setting didn't play into their favour, but I was lucky enough to see them live in a small indoor gig, which happened to be their very first headlining show, and boi did they deliver! One of the best shows I've ever seen :) A full set, and from only two albums and a cover song, they barely could fit the best ones in ^^
