  • URVE TAUTS (born in 1935) one of the most outstanding mezzo-sopranos in Estonia of all times. She was the soloist of the Estonian National Opera from 1960 till 2001. Among her most brilliant and famous roles can be mentioned Carmen, Azucena in "Il trovatore", Amneris in "Aida" and Eboli in "Don Carlos". Tauts's voice also enabled to sing the roles of dramatic sopranos such as Santuzza in "Cavalleria rusticana".
The baritone VOLDEMAR KUSLAP (born in 1937) became the soloist of the Estonian National Opera in 1965 and still appears in some productions. Kuslap has been appreciated both as an opera, operetta and musical artist. His most memorable roles are don Giovanni, Papageno in "The Magic Flute", Aristide in "Bal im Savoy", Zsupan in "Der Zigeunerbaron", Cervantes / don Quijote in "Man of La Mancha", Hr Schulz in "Cabaret" and many others.
This duet is recorded at a New Year's Eve concert at the Estonian National Opera in 1980, the orchestra is conducted by maestro Eri Klas. Urve Tauts and Voldemar Kuslap perform a beautiful number - "Im Chambre Séparée" - from the operetta by Richard Heuberger "Der Opernball".
