Basim isn’t bad he’s just haunted by a desire for revenge as his past life as loki. Since odin (eivor) is responsible of the killing of loki’s (basim’s) son fenrir. He stays a hidden one his entire life to continue suppressing the order and serve the light.
There is a second bar under the enemy health bar that you drain by parrying attacks. Once that bar is empty you do a finisher. Unless they have changed it with an update - its been a while since I played

Basim is a good guy.
Loki on the other hand is questionable.
