You may be farther ahead on watching and realized already, but Gilthunder was abducted by Vivian (who had disguised herself as "Gilfrost" for a while) when things were looking bad near the end of last season- and everyone is ragging on Howzer this episode basically saying that he's Gil's "stand in" until Gil comes back lol
