- Artist David Zinn uses chalk and charcoal to draw whimsical characters in Laguna Beach, California. He creates optical illusions in the space around him, using overgrown grass and cracks in sidewalks, to delight audiences as long as the chalk and charcoal last. Jamie Yuccas reports.

I enjoy sidewalk art because it celebrates the making of the art more than the results.
My company hired David to do some (boring) technical graphic illustration way back in 1999. He was professional and easy to work with. So happy to see him shining as a true artist and spreading joy when we need it most!
My mom sent me this, how she sees news a few miles from me but thousands of miles from her is beyond me🤣 thanx mom for sharing any Artis that reminds you you birthed an artist... It sweet to know I'm on your mind at times...

As wonderful as his drawings are, his captions are the icing on the cake
This guy's drawings can appear on commercials related to educational purposes or even marketing for keeping the cities clean using these characters

Awesomeness
*_Thank you for this amazing story_*
Sooooooo wonderful, really. Wish I had the talent, would try to do the exact same thing.
Very interesting story
Charcoal and Chalk have been a standard art medium, for thousands of years, red ochre dirt, painted portraits on many of the Anasazi rocks and hunting markers, even in the tombs of the pharaoh's.
Mosaics of baked clay, chiseled marble,
it took a very long time to invent oil painting.
Leonardo da Vinci and Michael Angelo,
and Rembrandt had to become chemists, before they could attempt paintings with oil.
Research into oil painting has come a long way since then.
Sir love the artwork around the city would love to see in Boston after he draws it someone needs to go around and clear coat his drawing real fast on the floor for they can stay permanent clear coat
I think the word you're looking for is "DELIGHTFUL!"
Love what she's wearing!! Besides the art!!
Wow! We go walking here every weekend and never knew! What a wonderful story!
I love to sketch... if I saw him this artist chalking I would sit and sketch him drawing.....
838pm on 4/21/24 . Such fun. Impressive 😊
He is meant for MUCH BIGGER THINGS!
We must all recognize that art is an expression or passion to express the mind.
Very few Artists ever receive any money for their artwork.
Leonardo da Vinci , did earn a living from his art.
Michelangelo was paid for art work.
Rembrandt got paid for his artwork.
Vincent Vango did not earn any money.
Pablo Picasso did not get paid for his paintings. But he did get a lot of art critics to stand on their heads.
Please come to Minnesotaa!
Finally! A face to the art work!!! Facebook won’t let me comment! New policy.
The Oreo cookie!
I’ve seen a few of his drawings! They definitely make you smile & you really appreciate the whimsical nature of them & the creativity of the artist!!
The interviewer should’ve done a much better job!!
❤
Where do you buy the chalk pencils for sidewalk art?
i prefer this over spray paints. its easy to washout
I love you.
Okay, I'll do it! 😊❤
his work isn't that edgy but i love his idea about noticing things you take for granted
If his artwork becomes valuable like Banksy, pretty soon people will be ripping out bricks and chunks of pavement with his art on it.
He is the new Banksy.
.
or even better . . . 🎈
@David zinn I get it!!!
👍❤😍🥇
why is the news lady dressed like a street walker?
😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Should clear spray paint to protect
Better with English captions for international viewers

If he wanted he could seal his art work to protect it from the elements. But then it may turn into graffiti and have legal implications. Though I don't suspect that many people would object to it being permanent, considering the subject matter.
