David Zinn is an American street artist renowned for his temporary and imaginative chalk and charcoal drawings, which he creates on sidewalks and walls in various urban spaces. His work stands out in the contemporary art scene for its playful spirit and ephemeral nature, contrasting sharply with the often permanent and serious nature of traditional street art. Zinn’s art is characterized by its accessibility and whimsicality, capturing the hearts of a diverse audience ranging from art aficionados to casual passersby.
Zinn’s approach to street art is unique. He shuns the use of permanent paints or invasive methods, instead opting for chalk and charcoal, which naturally fade away over time. This temporary aspect of his work reflects a deeper philosophy of enjoying the moment and finding beauty in the transient aspects of life. His art pieces often spontaneously interact with their surroundings, turning a simple crack in the sidewalk or a street vent into an integral part of the playful scenes he creates. Your videos in the Quantastic compilations, are my favorite!
So worth the watch.

@Ryker Reign the fuck u bots are everywhere
Omg kneepads! Brilliant!!!
So it looks like a combo of artist charcoal vines, soft pastels, and regular old sidewalk chalk! love it!
Enjoyable side walk art. Nice music to listen to , watching you draw.
Thanks for he comment on the music, if there is one thing that people don’t like about the video it’s the music that I used, this was a very early video of mind and if I had to do it all over again, yes I would change the music but to be truthful, I believe it is not that bad.
The music is relaxing and turned down while you were talking, so I have zero problem with it.
I think it adds to the video.
David we just discovered you and appreciate your style of works ..Keep up the super great job! Doug & Sharon
😊😊❤
I’ve been looking at this guy’s art off and on online he’s amazing
I really enjoyed this, and I shared your video with some of my elementary art students. They were inspired!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, and we always love inspiring future chalk artists
Man. The crowd watching you draw is kind of cool😊
I appreciate how you said that as it's temporary it takes the pressure off...
Great explanation of how our brain works around anamorphic. Fascinating!
His art is so mind blowing!
David Zinn ... you are amazing. What an imagination!!! Keep us fascinated!!!
I have been admiring your chalk art for years. I have pinned it in interest and download images to my phone for backdrops... Keep up the great work. Now I have a name to go with the Art. :)
I love how little kids gather and get closer as the image progresses
David you had very good idea, wonderful idea,i found very suitable place for you,it malaysia penang island, this place crazy like what u draw , combination with natural environment and art... appreciate to u...i know u from bbc news.
Looks likes characters from a lovely children's book. I can definitely see Sluggo telling a ghost, or monster story. As in reality one listener is scared while another is interested but not scared. The dinosaur, or dragon is the scared part of us inside despite attempting a courageous exterior, especially with kids.
I wonder if he ever illustrates children's books? Would be a good way to make money, and he's very good at it obviously.
he is a an illustrator, so I would say it he would take that work.
❤
What an amazing art.. 👌👌 When you start this project no one is there in the middle some people & children gather & when it comes to near end so mani children, paraents & people came there to watch your art & thats the secret of life that when yor start new & different thing no one with you but when yor dream come true with real time & you work is owesum then everyone comes to appriciate you & wist but till the time you have to keep petions... thanx David Fimm for this.... 👌👌👌👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
So fun!!! Thank you DZ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So relaxing to watch.. and amazing to see the results.. it's nice to know that, somewhere out there.. there is 'this'
Glad you enjoyed it!
You’re so humble! Such amazing talent!! Wow!!!! My eyes are like sluggo right now lol 👀
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 love it
what a gift...lucky, lucky us 😁‼️❣️
Wunderschön !!! Es berührt die Seele weil ganz deutlich zu erkennen ist das es vom Herzen kommt!
You are a big Master genius!
Even I love pencils and charcool too.
What a nice guy! Great drawing. Watching this in pandemic - just showed up in my feed. ❤️
Thank you so much 😀
What a cool guy, thank you for sharing these amazing videos.
Thanks for the comment, hope you check out my other videos from the TOP.
I know this is an old video, wonderful by the way! Hoping you see this. What gloves are you using? I'm trying to search online but no luck on which gloves are best for blending. Thank you.
You AMAZE me! I think you are AWESOME! I give you an A+++!
FANTASTIC!!
Ahh.. that thing is an eraser!! Brilliant :)
Love the part where a little boy is captivated with you!
Teach me. I must bring this to my neighborhood
I love your chalk art. I want them to last forever. To me you are awesome. Have you ever published any art?
At first I thought that you were drawing an elephant, but it turned into a very cute dinosaur. :3
Lo que mas me gusta de el esque no pone su sombrero en el suelo en busca de dinero
Love This!
2024 anyone!!
I just saw him next to the YMCA
You don’t see much of this in Seattle for some reason. 🤔 😂
The charcoals come off ok then? I was worried that they might stain more than a chalk, which easily washed away.
They have to be soft pastels if they are oil pastels they will not come off that easy
i love this, can i ask what type of glove you use, i tear up the tips of my fingers, get raw.
Why is it that I get all emotionnal-like when watching this?
5:37 That kid he drew almost looks real!!
That’s funny.
A couple(ish) suggestions.
- Go buy a red & white checkered picnic towel & turn your chalk stick into a bindle stick (fill it with chalk?)
- Whenever someone (kids mainly) make a 'worthy' suggestion, have them sign their first name below the drawing.
Man, I fucking LOVE your art.
he doesn't add signatures because he wants the objects to appear as if they are something existing in the environment :)
@@KashiGirl911 Ya, I see that, but think how cool for a kid to have his name on the sidewalk because they suggested something like "that dinosaur needs a hat..." then he draws a hat (cause, duh, it clearly needed a hat). This guy's work rocks. I LOVE it.
I love watercolor. Could you draw a Black Cat? And I can borrow My Black Cat' name, Merlín. He was My beloved furry Cat. Greetings from México.
Great fun. Thank you
As a chalk artist myself, I can fully appreciate what you're doing.
Except I always feel secretly annoyed when little kids stop and look and ask either, "What're you doing?" and "Can I help?"
What's it look like I'm doing? I'm making art, lol. Then you have to politely explain you don't need help and PRAY they go away.
OtterloopB kids are much better listeners, and understand better than most of us adults. (It took me 8 years to find this video)...much respect to David and his art :-)
Ooh, what a grump!
Get them involved. Collaborate!
Defacing the sidewalks is not vandalism? No...it is art.
he's defacing nothing.. it's chalk.. it just washes away in the rain!? #scrooge using wrapping paper is also not defacing a gift :p
are you defacing the sidewalks when you leave footprints after walking through a puddle? get over yourself!
@@KashiGirl911 May I do 'art' on the side of your house? It will wash off eventually.
@@frankblangeard8865 in chalk.. sure.. have at it!
@@frankblangeard8865 it's a white house.. perfect canvas for you.. Just let me know when you've been.. so I can take pics before it washes off
wow so nice streets of michigan I wana go there
hey not to far from me. are you always in ann arbor? id love to come see some work if i visit the area again this summer
…brilliant
Great idea! Will need to go to dollar store to pick up some rubbing gloves.
i think i heard this same soudntrack when i was at my local chinese restaurant while eating my food
That made me laugh, at least I hope you enjojed the visuals, ha! ha!. Thanks for the comment Eric.
What are you using for your black lines?
Looks to me like artist charcoal "vine and willow"
@@davidannett3322 Dunno why he's making life difficult for himself using that stuff, it would be easier to use sticks of compressed charcoal; although the line IS subtly different, I guess the 'natural'- type sticks might be more in keeping with his style.
I used to do this for pocket money in Ireland back in the '80's/early '90's by putting down a hat. I rarely made more than beer money doing it- if that! Although I did occasionally get lucky doing a portrait of the crucial goal-scorer in a vital soccer international, say, or portraits of big rock-stars doing stadium gigs in town. I had a couple of mates though who consistently made very respectable money doing pavement drawings- so much so that they were able to (or forced to!) sign off unemployment assistance. (The 1980's recession cut deep in Ireland, especially in my hometown of Cork with a number of big industries folding.) These lads combined a very savvy approach, joining forces to produce enormous 'extravaganzas', with well thought out subject matter, ie no 'modern art', nothing 'political', or controversial... Cutesy stuff, mostly- Santa Claus at Christmas, Easter Bunny at Easter, etc., Chocolate-box type landscapes, occasional religious pictures on the appropriate holidays, and so forth... This 'tactical' approach, with their undeniable talent, of which they genuinely had bucket-loads, meant that for a year or two they were able to make a living, albeit a somewhat Spartan one, from their drawings. Of course, Cork being just an 'average-sized' kinda burg, got- well, played-out, I suppose, (to the chagrin of some of the other pavement artists) and my friends found that the law of diminishing returns set in. Besides, it was never the kind of thing that could be a viable alternative to regular, waged, employment, given how dirty and how hard on the joints it was; and what with the unwelcome attention of both cops AND robbers! Not to mention what was always, in the British Isles, going to be the biggest obstacle- the RAIN! Somewhat dispiriting to spend hours doing a drawing only for the skies to open as it finally nears completion- particularly as it is only as the drawing nears completion that the public start to open their purses or rummage in their pockets!
love it
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Look how many people there are watching this!
It was a vey good crowd at the end.
LIVERPOOL AND ANN ARBOR
👏👏👏👏👏
WOW
Thanks for the video. I do digital chalk drawings for social media for @la_tia_b and I'm eager to improve by adopting some real-world techniques. Thanks again!
Nice sir 🙏
Sir, I for the first time used sidewalk Chalk, J
Had only about ten colors of
So cool
Thanks Nancy, I’m glad that you liked it.
Dave’s TV Zone I love it. Much much
Lov guy always. Keep it up.
I appreciate your gift
I’ve never encountered charcoal on a stick so....
Love the footage and the subject! Have been a ZinnArt fan for many years. I'd like to suggest changing the soundtrack to something a little more lively and a little less sentimental. His work is playful and fun not sappy.
What is the black medium used here .
(most popular guy in Ann Arbor)
He could spray the finished artwork with a sealer so they would last longer. Of course
the city may not like that.
He really likes it when they re only visible a short time.
I think the city would be just fine with it. If I was in charge, he would be on the payroll with as much chalk as he wanted
pencil. 2:09
I would think it would be hard to be introverted and work with that many people around you, and interacting with you..
You should definitely write and Ilustrate books . You will be bored with sidewalks but your art should be lasting.
Hes my grandpa
Be is
I mean he is ?
Why did you have to fuck it up with the music??
Disturbing muzak - like in nearly all videos on youtube.
Ahhh muzak, it’s really some obscure new age but I still appreciated your comment.
Ugh what's with the cheesy 80s background music?
Sad part is knowing, if he was a black man, none of his art would be seen because the cops would not only not let him do his art, but likely arrest him and try to send him to prison. And as outlandish as this comment may sound, fact is , its all together true. sad but true.
Interesting comment, very thoughtful
@@DavesTVZone And as a "black" man and artist/ animator i know it all to well. which is why i made the comment. Your work is so amazing. uplifting, a little blip of joy that people find their way running into during their day. And as i watched, i placed myself in your shoes, and i instantly knew the outcome, and the truth, that all it would take is a change in skin complexion, and for most cops (not saying at all that it hasn't happen at all to yourself, as some people are just universally jerks! lol, but you and i both know, the sad truth. keep all the factors the same and just make a change in the complexion and all that wonderful art is no more, At least in most places. And its so sad, both from the point of the artist as well as what's lost in the process. Every piece of art is a tree of who's branches reach out to so many and in the process, bares fruits in peoples lives. And yet some especially those in power who's hearts are full of envy and hate would readily seek to stomp out any gleam of light especially if it doesn't come from those they deem to be worthy of admiration and praise.
I can't hear what you're saying over that annoying music so I'm gone!
Thanks for the feedback, good, bad or indifferent they are all appreciated, you know I have over 1400 videos on my channel so maybe there are one or two that you might like before you leave.
15:54... the best part of the video
Michelangelo would appreciate your talent and execution! Great!
Way too slow for such a small little drawing.
