This video was so helpful, but I did notice in your formula you had 6/(100+.08), followed by 6/1.08 & 100 + .08= 100.08. So in your equation that should really be 6/(1 + .08) in order to get 1.08? Correct? That one little hick up threw my math off & im glad I caught in time!
Oh my goodness I was struggling with this part as well. I thought I wasn't understanding how she wanted me to do the equation. Thank you both for the clarification.
Just got Thur watching this video a few times…. There are so many candle makers/RUclipsr that don’t was to explain this but make it seem like candle making is easy or want to charge and take advantage …. I am just grateful you did this video…. Thank you for sharing your knowledge…😊
This is why in baking, resin work, candle making, etc. I ALWAYS USE GRAMS. Sooooo much easier than ounces!!! And yes, I'm American, metric weight is just way easier for percentage math.
I have such a hard time absorbing the metrics for coming up with the correct wax and fragrance oil. I still can’t seem to “get it”. Can anyone help me understand? Or do you have a redo use tool that helps you with this?
Thank you so much for this very in depth video! Please make more videos like this! You have helped me soooo much! Next order of business is choosing which wicks work best! That’s the testing phase I’m in now! Thank you sweet girl for sharing your knowledge! I really appreciate you!
I am just starting - haven’t even made a candle yet BUT this is so clear!! Thank you - I will use these formals when I’m ready to get started. A huge Thank You!!
Very helpful. I was never good at math and I watched so many videos on youtube to learn this and none of them worked for me. Thank you so much for this video. I finally understood and I'm so happy :)
Very helpful. I had to use math to figure mg/kg body weight when I was a nurse, so I know how important using the right formula and getting the math right. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video I just finished watching the video now and it's super informative. Please I would love if you could do a video on the wick testing I really really want to start mine and I'm hoping to cut down cost.
I just found your channel and subscribed right away! I love making candles and soap but I found your channel when I was looking for space hair buns for thin hair❤️ Looking forward to see your videos 🥰
Thank you so much for this super video. Now I can actually begin because I understand how to calculate net weigh and determining how much fragrance oil. Looking forward to watching more video by you and Memory Box. Again thank you so much
I love this video and have a problem about info that Golden Brands all natural soy wax 464 says - it states to use 1 oz of fragrance oil to 1 lb of wax - what do I do because I don’t want it to strong nor do I want a weak scent
Hello, I have question. If I already figure out the net weight of the wax by pouring melted wax into an empty jar or silicone mold . Do I still need to divide with the 1.08% to get another new wax weight? Or can I skip this part and subtract the jar/silicone weight with the net weight wax to figure out the fragrance oil weight? And another question is 6oz the desired melt wax weight that you chose for your tin can ? I’m sorry I’m just trying to understand the math 😅
Thank you. Judt starting out. Ive been procrastinating every day because I am afraid of getting the math wrong. This is giveing me hope. Where did you get gram scale
Hello it me again ,I’m Not sure if I missed a step in the formula. I will be using (A,B,C,D and E) for my math problem . I first weight my silicone mold to figure how much it weigh (A) . Then I filled the silicone with melted wax to figure out the net weight (B). After that I subtract the silicone weight with the net weight (A-B) = C then I plug in my new fill weight to the formula that you provided. C (100%+8%) Then I divided C( 1.08%) = D to get the proper wax weight. After that I subtract (C-D) to get my F.O load = E . I attempted to do a candle with with the same mold but after measuring my wax and melting it , it only filled 1/3 of the mold ? Can you please help me ? I thought figure out my wax weight 😣
Is there a reason to short your FO, which is what your math does? What am I missing? Why not a true 8% . 6oz x 0.08 = 0.48 FO then 6.00 - 0.48 = 5.52 wax. Minute discrepancy with one candle but x 100 candles different story. Multiplying gives the full %. Division shorts every candle 0.5% FO? What am I missing?
Thank you! Very helpful! Easy to understand and follow! As you stated, wish the writing was bigger. I am a visual learner. Nevertheless, Much appreciation! Thank you for sharing!
Hi! Wery interesting video. But can you also show all math in your bussines? Like your taxes and how much you need to ti save each month for taxes? Thank you!
So as a beginner i have used 2lbs of wax to 1oz of the same FO. 2lbs come to find out made only 5 8oz jars of candles. Now how do i figure out how much wax i need to melt to FO percentage when i go to mixing the FO?
Thanks for this video. In your formula, you said desired fill weight ÷ [100+ F.O %]. Working out the base, 100 + (8%). 100+ 0.08= 100.08. Pls where did you come about 1.08? Not adding up here
so i have a question : I'm using soy wax 444 to get the best Ht what temp do you add your F.O at right now i add my at 160 is that to cold for the F.O to bind to the wax? help please
I like to follow the manufacturer recommendations when I make my candles. I am a beginner, and I am using palm wax blend from Michaels. The instructions for palm wax says 0.5 oz of FO per pound. My palm wax comes already measured; it comes in blocks, so it is easy to make the ratio. I usually make 2 pounds and I use one of those 1oz bottle of fragrance. This mix fills 7 tin candle containers of 8oz. It works perfectly for me. And the hot throw is amazing! Don't complicate your life.
What if you are using multiple fragrances in one hand, how do you calculate the different measurements of each fragrance for one candle in ounces instead of grams
Omg I wished I found your video on this since I have to keep recalculating to add more of the soy wax for the different containers! Great information but I agree with nay_johnson you need to fix that 100 to 1.
People don't measure in percentages. Make the math simple. When I make paste wax for tools, I use 5 parts wax to 1 part linseed oil. Paste wax for finishing is 3 parts wax to 1 part boiled linseed oil. Cutting board butter is 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part wax. What is the calculation for fragrance. x part was to x part oil. Very simple to give us! you say 8%. So...that is 12 parts wax to 1 part fragrance?
Thank you for not gate keeping. You’re the best!
Always!
Yes you are correct I need to fix the video! Thank you for pointing this out 🤍
Oh my goodness I was struggling with this part as well. I thought I wasn't understanding how she wanted me to do the equation. Thank you both for the clarification.
Awesome tutorial, as a true beginner this is the best tutorial, especially for us senior retirees! I"m make copy sheets of your notebook page!
Thanks!
No thank you!

This is really helpful. Does this also work for gel? Thank you!
Seems difficult at first, but you broke it down perfectly!!! Thank you.
You got this! 💪
This was a life savor! I was about to give up on my new candle business, but God sent this(you)🙌
Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much! This is one of the most helpful videos I've come across to help me start my journey of candle-making ☺
I'm so glad! 😊
This is why in baking, resin work, candle making, etc. I ALWAYS USE GRAMS. Sooooo much easier than ounces!!! And yes, I'm American, metric weight is just way easier for percentage math.
Thank you so much! You made it make sense!
I’m so glad!
Thankyou for such detailed video, what if we use multiple FO ?
You can use this with any fragrance oil. If you use a different percentage you would just plug it into the formula 😊
cries. I have a masters degree and I suck at math. But thank you. I will watch it 100 times. :)
😂

I actually understood this. Wish you were with me back in school!
😂
Great video! Thank you! Is this formula approved for all types of wax?
Thank you 😊
Amazing
It took me a while to understand this, I didn’t give up and I’m glad I finally get it.
Thank you 😘
Glad it helped!
Very Helpful. Thank you so much❤
Very helpful. I had to use math to figure mg/kg body weight when I was a nurse, so I know how important using the right formula and getting the math right. Great video. Thanks.
You're so welcome!
Your videos had been really helpful alot explained in small time
I’m glad to hear that thank you 😊
You really came through I just wrote everything down hopefully this works for my small business
Thank you and thank you for the formula !
Seriously greatful for this video. Extremely helpful.
Thank you very much... very helpful. I’m going to try this… appreciate it. Would love a video explaining why you use this formula. Thanks so much
Great suggestion thank you!
Thank you so much for this video I just finished watching the video now and it's super informative.
Please I would love if you could do a video on the wick testing I really really want to start mine and I'm hoping to cut down cost.
This was great. I think it would make a great maths enrichment lesson, and that you would make a wonderful teacher.
Aw thank you!
This was so helpful - may I ask how you got the 28.35? Before using grams for the fo%?
Super helpful formula but that part confused me 🙈
Thank you sooooo much for this video!!!!🎉
You are so welcome!
That was great thanks
This is soooo helpful! Thank you! Thank you ! Thank you! I struggle when it comes to this partI will watch this video like I'm in class!
Thank you. Very easy to understand for me the novice
Glad it was helpful!
Hi there! Do you have a video for squishy wax melts?! also do you leave your candles to cure before you use them?
best video so far. Thx!
This helped so much I was confused on how to figure out how much wax and oil to use. Thank you 🙏🏾
Hi how do I use this method for pillar silicone candles as the ones I do as all different sizes and shapes xxx
Thank you!🤗
Thank you sooo much. You explained it and wrote it out so well.
Thank you!
You're such an angel. Thank you so so much for your content girl! Thumbs up x10
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much n pls make more videos. You are just amazing and it helped me a lot ❤ stay blessed
Thank you 😊
Im trying to understand this. At 7:05, when you say 8 percent is going to be .08, that is referencing 8 percent of what number?
.08 is 8 percent of 1 the whole
Thank you so much! ❤
Is this formula for before or after the wax is already melted?
Grams.........easy! Come on Yankees, get up with the play! Thanks Sarah, great Tuts.
I just found your channel and subscribed right away!
I love making candles and soap but I found your channel when I was looking for space hair buns for thin hair❤️
Looking forward to see your videos 🥰
Ha that’s awesome!
Thank you soooo much this video was very helpful ❤
I’m glad it helped!
this is amazing!! i’m a very new beginner as I want to gain knowledge before purchasing any materials to craft! thank you so much ❣️
You're so welcome!
Hi, have you tried to use wholesale plus calculator?
No I have not, what is it?
@EclipseBotanica oh that was wholesale supplies plus, they sell soap ingredients and tools and they have calculator, percentage or weight
I was planning to learn making candle also. Thanks for sharing
THANK YOU SO MUCH, now I can start making my magic!!
Thank you so much for this super video. Now I can actually begin because I understand how to calculate net weigh and determining how much fragrance oil. Looking forward to watching more video by you and Memory Box. Again thank you so much

Thank you so much for doing this! I wish my math teachers had made math this easy to understand instead of all the stress I went through back in HS 😂
Happy to help!

I like this idea, I think that would work to subtract the weight of the silicone
Thank you. Judt starting out. Ive been procrastinating every day because I am afraid of getting the math wrong. This is giveing me hope. Where did you get gram scale
It’s listed in my Amazon page or you can just google gram scale! 😊
thank you for this. very imformative video.💝💖
You are so welcome!
God's angel everyone! Thank you so much🥰🥰🥰🥰😅
🤣😭 you’re so sweet!

Hi! Wery interesting video. But can you also show all math in your bussines? Like your taxes and how much you need to ti save each month for taxes? Thank you!
Is this the same for mold candles
Water weight times .86 equals wax/oil weight.
I have a question 🙋♂️ I am doing wax melts candles is it then some method?
Yes I believe so!
So as a beginner i have used 2lbs of wax to 1oz of the same FO. 2lbs come to find out made only 5 8oz jars of candles. Now how do i figure out how much wax i need to melt to FO percentage when i go to mixing the FO?
Very helpful 👍🏽🥰 thanks
Thanks for this video.
In your formula, you said desired fill weight ÷ [100+ F.O %].
Working out the base,
100 + (8%).
100+ 0.08= 100.08.
Pls where did you come about 1.08?
Not adding up here
So sorry, I need to redo this video, it’s supposed to say 100% + 8%. Which would be 1.08
Hi. Why did you do x 28.35?
Conversion from oz to grams 😁
Thanks, but how did you get 8% FO oil?
Thank you so much for simplifying something that intimidated and my candles lol🎉
Aw I’m glad it helped 😆🤍
my wax melts never weigh the same, even tho I fill them up. After I subtrat for the shell.they are not all exact.
so i have a question : I'm using soy wax 444 to get the best Ht what temp do you add your F.O at right now i add my at 160 is that to cold for the F.O to bind to the wax? help please
I add mine directly out of the digiboil, so the temp is usually 190 🤍
I can’t see the formula numbers under Y can you put it under here please?
I like to follow the manufacturer recommendations when I make my candles. I am a beginner, and I am using palm wax blend from Michaels. The instructions for palm wax says 0.5 oz of FO per pound. Thank you ❤I will be trying this and also her way, and see which works for me. Thank you thank you♥️
5% candles will never have a strong enough smell to succeed.
Thank you
You're welcome!
What if you are using multiple fragrances in one hand, how do you calculate the different measurements of each fragrance for one candle in ounces instead of grams
You would just find out the exact measurement of each FO and add all the FOs to your candle materials
How do you get 1.08 after adding 100+ 0.08??? Someone help me with this math???
I was supposed to say 100% that’s where the confusion is!
I do mine slightly easier. fill weight divided by FO % 170g / 108% = 157.4 then 170 - 157.4 = 12.6 157.4g wax 12.6g FO
Hi, why 108? I don’t understand where 100 comes in?
I suck at math, I just ask Goggle.
Hey you didn’t show us how to add the coconut oil to the equation 😞
Only issue...is 100 + .08 is 100.08....s/b 1 + .08 is 1.08.
Thank you so much 🫶this breakdown is so easy… I will definitely use this when making my own DIY candles❤️ 😘new subscriber 🙋🏻♀️
Yay! Thank you!
I weigh my FO in Grams
⭐️
Omg I wished I found your video on this since I have to keep recalculating to add more of the soy wax for the different containers! Great information but I agree with nay_johnson you need to fix that 100 to 1.
