Making a ceramic treasure box with snowflake crackle glaze (ASMR, no text and voiceover)

- Developing and working with a snowflake crackle glaze (or ice crackle glaze) has been my obsession for years. It was my very first glaze I mixed myself and I have run numerous glaze tests with variations in glaze recipe and with various clay bodies to find a working formula - but the result is worth it.
Every time I open the kiln, it’s like ‘wow’ again.
The shallow lidded treasure box is one of my favorite forms to make. Perfect hiding place for everyday treasures. Its still also practical and as well foodsafe as the inside is glazed with transtaprent glossy glaze.
I fit the lid carefully to have a very tight fit. I like to play with variations and contrast with glazed and unglazed areas especially with this black stoneware clay.
The photos of the final work can be seen in my blog:

Gorgeous glaze!
This glaze is beyond beautiful 😮
Beautiful. It was amazing to see how skillful you are. I just got a wheel. Haven't thrown anything yet.
Thank you! its interesting to start something new, dont worry about your skills, they will come when you do, and faster than you can imagine.
I must have a video somewhere of my first time behind the wheel, its funny, I had no idea what to do and how to do. I just sat behind the wheel and took a ball of clay, Then as nothing came out, I started to search how to throw ;)
This is a very beautiful box.
You can tell right away that all the craftsmanship and soul went into it, which means it is priceless.
I always wondered what it was covered with, what made it shine like icing on a bun.
Thank you for your kind words. Those mean a lot to me.
You can read the background of this glaze in my blog: klementiart.com/en/designs/ice-cracle-glaze/
@@klementi-art Thank you, I will be interested.
Wow it's incredibly gorgeous. I'm a new Potter, a hand builder and I admire your skill..I can't imagine achieving that level of expertise. I am so new in fact, that I just glazed my first load of stoneware and haven't fired it yet. It will be a first experience for me.
Its a very interesting path you have in front of you. A lot of joy. Potters are most happy people you know - there is so much joy and happiness after every firing and the joy of making something with your hands even when you dont know eactly how it will turn out from firing.
I still remember the first pots I made some 5 years ago. Skills come with every piece you make, dont worry, just do.
@Klementi Art +Craft Thank you. Yours are the first words of Potters wisdom I've received. I will remember them!
Love the burnishing :) Very nice box, thanks for sharing
Burnished with a spoon ;)
Très bon et, beau travail .
Absolutely beautiful. Love the clay and the glaze
Thanks so much 😊
Omg this is stunning!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the whole process-how wonderful 🙂
I'm so glad!
Fantastic work. All my respect
Thank you so much 😀
I'm starting to throw vases and this was a beautiful, beautiful watch! Congratulations on the piece and the process
Thank you for your kind words. I remember so well the feeling when I first started to throw, It was so exciting. The skills will come with patience and persistence. Good luck to you !
I love that black clay!!! It reminds me of the Japanese black stoneware clay.
Indeed. And that black clay is the best fit with this glaze. The dark clay brings out the beauty of the glaze. I have made my own clay mix as not all clays work with this glaze.
Beautiful! Congratulations! 👋👋
Thank you!! 😊
Just beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful piece
Thank you! Cheers!

Linda!
Vidrado fantástico!
Parabéns ao Mestre
Thank you !
👍
Very good..
You are crafty!😂 How’s the family? Son still interested in some of the things good Dad does? I hope so, it has helped my kids a great deal!😊
Thank you Linda.
My family and my daughters are a great support for me !
Just perfection. I'd love to be able to do that. What kind of clay is that? I have a Black clay 266, and it's red when greenware.
Thank you Judy.
The clay I mix and wedge from 2 different clay bodies. I have no experience with 266.It seems to to fire to quite interesting colour. Seems to be quite similar to one black clay I have tested, but that one did not work with several glazes.
German made Goerg & Schneider 373 and 371 are quite similar to my mix but slightly lighter grey.
Such beautiful work !! I checked out your website but it seems none of your works are for sale :(
Hi. Thank you, a lot 😊
I don’t have a shop ready yet. The last few years I have worked to develop my skills and styles. I have the web shop in development and hopefully it will be, but there is still a lot of work to be done to prepare for it. I will give hints and announcements on my web and social media, once the time is right.
What clay body is this? It looks like white stoneware when you are throwing it, but the finished color is that of red or chocolate clay body.
Hi Sara. It's and anthracite black stoneware that I use. I actually wedge two different clays together to have nice fit with this glaze I use.
Beautiful!!! Is that a commercial glaze or one you made?
Thanks Annie.
Noone sells this glaze, its insane how complicated this is. This glaze I have made myself.
John Britt has a snowflake crackle glaze he shares in his book Mid-range glazes. Of course it will depend on you to do tests on your clay body (or glaze) to adjust the fit if needed. Check out his you tube videos as well. They are all filled with glaze chemistry information!
Thank you Jean. He's a great source of inspiration and information to deep dive into.
Thank you Jean! Good to know he has a similar glaze. I am aware of John Britt, but I'm just starting with making my own glazes and I'm working my way there slowly. He really is very generous with his knowledge.
How do you begin i want to learn. But i want to learn from someone like you
I’m flattered. How can I teach you? I’m on the other side of the globe. But best teacher is doing, just sit behind the wheel and start doing - you’ll learn from every piece you make. Start from simple and small forms, then go bigger and more complicated when the simple ones feel comfortable. I wish you good luck and may your hands be filled with clay and your heart with imagination.
@@klementi-art then you my friend I just got a block of earthenware clay and I'm going to begin with coil bowls. I would just like to learn from an expert since it would help allot more. And everyone has their style and your pottery had a certain look that I like . Thank you for the videos. As I cannot train with you I will be looking at your videos allot . Thank you for showing me your art my friend
The pot you made is not what you advertised! is there a reason for thins?
Interesting how did you get into that conclusion?
@@klementi-art the picture displayed was not the pot that you made. The [picture displayed was a small lidded blue pot
