Nice video. I like to see young people operating and it looks like a very young new comer in the one shot. I hope you all did well and it sure looks like all enjoyed field day. Barry, KU3X/QRP

It certainly seems that your group had fun despite the heat! A couple of notes about the 80m loop: it's normal for a horizontal loop to be more of an NVIS antenna on its fundamental frequency. However, fed with balanced line they tend to be tremendous DX performers on the higher bands as the angle of radiation drops and the gain increases as the frequency increases. I'm not sure if you tried it on any other band other than 80 but if so I suspect you noted longer-distance contacts on 40 and up. The loop also tends to be quieter (in terms of noise) than a dipole/doublet or a vertical so that characteristic tends to improve the signal-to-noise ratio as compared to other antennas one might use. Also, if you have the room to put up a 160m loop you may find that it is a better DX antenna on 80m than a loop configured for 80m as its fundamental. Again, it does appear that your group had a good time and that's what Field Day is all about. I hope to catch you on the air during FD 2022!
Hey Brian, thanks for watching! YES we had a great time even with a very rare heat-wave in the area. Fortunately that was the last day. Thanks for all the tips on the HL antenna. What you stated is identical to what I had discovered while researching this configuration. We did do a little FT8 on 20m with it however, even though PSKReporter was showing us hitting all over the world, we were getting very few QSOs out of it. I have the space on our farm to setup a full wave 160 HL + Window line + 4:1 transformer - so when all the supplies come together I'll be out trying that setup. Thanks again! Cheers
Nice to see youth operating. Great setup.
Thanks for checking out our field day video David! Those girls were superstars on the radio. The whole family is tech save, which is great to see! 73

Das Leben ist wunderbar! What part of Deutschland are you in? I lived around the Bruchmühlbach-Miesau area for two years back in the 80s
