- Harrison hit me up and asked me if I can restore a pair of Nike Mag's that Whistlendiesel absolutely destroyed. It's like he was torturing the shoes for answers it didn't have. No amount of soap, detergent, and prayer removed the oil stains from the upper material. I had to paint on top of the oil stains for it to "disappear". I did everything I could to make them look better. Let's be honest, theres no way of bringing these back to factory conditions after what happened to them.

Definitely. If I was able to tend to the stains as soon as it happened I would be able to get it out. But it’s already baked in

yo, you know motor oil isn't supposed to go down your drain right?
For oily stains, use Dawn and baking soda with a little bit of water to turn it into a paste. The Dawn will break down the oil and the drying baking soda will draw it out of the material.
That’s true for cooking oil but it’s different for motor oil
I’m convinced there isn’t a shoe that you can’t fix & bring back to life. Your real craftsmanship is evident in all the 99% of hopeless sneakers no one could fix but you manage to bring back. The sneaker community is lucky to have a pro like yourself willing to experiment w/new techniques & go through the trial and errors just to find the best method! It definitely helps the custom/restore community save time & energy & most importantly avoid damaging a restoration even further. You definitely have had an impact with the sneaker culture and is arguably considered one of the goats to sneaker restorations and customs!

Why did you not use a steamer and, a deep cleaning vacuum or a power tool with a soft brush. My guy just painted over dirt & grime
It’s not the same material as a floor mat or fabric seats. It’ll fray the fabric even with a soft bristle attachment on a power tool. The stains were baked in already. If they were fresh( at least under a day of helping soaked) I would be able to remove them.
Nothing a little lighter fluid and a match couldn't fix

Amazing work man, brought that thing back to life 👏🏼 just brainstorming here- I’m wondering if a degreaser would’ve worked to get some of the oil stains out. I seen some detailers use stuff like Super Clean degreaser and dilute it to get stains out of car carpets and seats. Maybe would work on shoes too? 🤷🏻♂️

That’s what it is lol I tried to repeat shoe doc and put it in translation but what try to decipher was “when I see the foam, it’s in the grave”

Gall soap or grease remover (automotive) works good for oily dirt. Also dish soap with baking powder. I guess oxi cleaner could help aswell.

Automotive brake cleaner can remove auto oil stains. Maybe not these gnarly stains but it has worked miracles for me in the past
