    Cool trick with the sheath sharpening ...

    I have one knife by L.T. Wright. It's a GNS in 3V, saber ground, with drunken coffee bag micarta. ... I like the roomy handle when using heavy, insulated gloves in cold weather. ... There are a few spots on the coffee bag micarta, where fibers are exposed from the grinding/shaping process. ... I treat my leather with Montana Pitch Blend, which is a blend of pine pitch, beeswax, and mink oil. I just rub it in with my fingers, doing several sheaths in a session. Consequently, my hands get pretty greasy. I like to rub down my GNS coffee bag micarta handle with the Montana Pitch Blend oils on my hands at the end of the session. It helps to seal up the raw fibers and probably even protects the 3V tang from rusting. ... I also own a Bark River Mini Aurora in 3V with drunken coffee bag micarta. The micarta is very different than that on my L.T. Wright GNS. On the Mini Aurora, there are hundreds of tiny pin holes on the surface. There seems to be more resin used in the micarta on the Barkie vs the amount used on the GNS. Truthfully, I'm really not that fond of either version of the product as a knife handle material. ... I think, for my needs and preferences, regular canvas micarta seems to be about the best for a durable field knife. ... I appreciate your perspective about carbon steels on hard use field knives. ... Thanks for the thorough review.

      Thanks for watching. I agree though bcm is a better handle material.

    That sequence of excuses we find to buy new knives mad me bust a gut. My wife overhead it, and was just looking at me shaking her head.

    Just curious. What would your preference be instead of O1 for carbon steels? (Or will it be the 80crv2 that you use).

    • @shane4176
      @shane4176  4 года назад

      Yes if prefer 80crv-2, but I like 5160 and 52100

      Rice Creek bushcraft Thanks for the quick reply! I’m looking to pick up a LTW knife here shortly. In your opinion, between the Genesis, Outback, Next Gen and GW Bushcraft, which do you prefer and why?

      @@J_Replay man that's a tough one honestly. I don't think I could pick just one lol. I like and have all of those. I do really like the blade shape of the gw. But love the cutting power of the outback. The Genesis just does it all. Honestly I don't have any of those choices they are all fantastic!

    Unfortunately i own several of the Gso knives and after discovering way better steel I'm going to sell them all.. great design for sure but sharpening this steel is a nightmare .. A2 or D2, 01 zero issues sharpening cpmv3 is garbage IMHO

    • @shane4176
      @shane4176  2 года назад

      Definitely not the easiest steel to sharpen. Good quality stones do help.

    Excellent video my friend,they are some great excuses for buying new knives..it's dirty 😂.I tell my wife that the handles are to small.I have very big hands triple X gloves and I have to check out the handle size first.Why not try some Scandi knives,Hella,Mora,Casstrom,Martini etc.what price is the knife you reviewed.Stay safe.

      Haha I like that, " the handle is to small" um I think I paid like $210.00 or so for it. I was literally just talking about buying a Mora #1 and I really like the looks of the Castrom knives. I may have to give one a try.

    I am the very God of sharpening and if you have a little strop loaded with preferably BRKT white compound in the field, you will never face any problem with a convex 3V. Will stay razor like forever.
