this was a cut from Mel's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" LP...the song was released as a single and bubbled just under the Hot 100 January of '65...It's a great song by a super performer.

Band of gold, and All of a sudden my heart sings, as well as Hold me, are three masterpieces that any singer would kill to have in their body of work.

USA had so many talented musicians in the sixties. It will never happen again.

You could tell when he sang this song, he truly loved this song and thought it was going to be a much bigger hit but DJs were too busy playing British Invasion songs as they were tone deaf . None of those groups had a vocalist as skilled as Mel. I saw this when it was first aired.

He was actually a protege of Sam Cooke.

Sam once told Mel he (Mel) had the best pipes in the business but if anyone asked him (Sam) , he would say he had the best pipes.

Great performance by Mel. Being a protégé of Sam Cooke, he was devastated when Sam was murdered. Had Sam lived, Mel's carer would've been bigger.

The date is so ironic when compared to the life and death of the late Great Sam Cooke...Cooke

Good catch, Sam wrote and produced his first significant hit, "When A Boy Falls In Love", which Sam also recorded and became a hit for him also. Sam Cooke is the progenitor for many young men...myself included! If you look at Sam's TV performances it looks like he told Mel exactly what to do: stand there, sing your song, look pretty and let their imaginations run wild! LOL!

Edmund Williams I think your right about Sam Cooke teaching Mel Carter but Mel Carter must have been a dam good student to get as far as he has ❤️❤️❤️
