I had no idea Fred and Bing were so hip to music trends of the 70s. Wish they had done entire albums of rock era material that suited them.

Bing covered a lot of pop/rock music in the 60s and 70s.
A few Beatles tracks, Carole King, even Joni Mitchell!
Not just that, but he even welcomed acts like The Supremes and Temptations to perform on his variety shows (and often did a number or two with them).
There’s even a clip on here of Bing doing Kansas City with the Standells (of “Dirty Water”) fame.

This is Bing's son, Harry playing! I love that they are singing "contemporary songs"! Hollywood was so different back then, in some ways wonderful, bc of the musicals & shows but not what they did to Judy Garland & Marilyn Monroe. Too much pressure on female actress to be rake thin & the men really ruled everything!! (At least Louis B. Mayer did)!!!
I vividly remember this song as a child of the 70's!

This is a really nice cover and arrangement of James Taylor's hit song. I bet he never thought in his wildest dreams that Crosby & Astaire would do a version of it!

I think Fred had the hability to mingle with contemporary stuff easily and not look ridiculous, as many 'old generation' artists do sometimes. He keeps his personality, gives his personal touch and makes something new. See him doing disco stuff!

@GelasiMagic Anything in particular? I do have the whole show, but I'm not uploading the entire thing. The Bing-Fred duets are the highlights to me, and those are on youtube. But there are also Christmas songs. And The Young Americans. Fred and Bing's daughter sing "Pick Yourself Up." Anything sound good? :)

@GelasiMagic No problem! I put it on my other channel since Bing's not in the clip and I want to keep this channel Bing-only. I'll send you a link. :)

Always loved when Harry played guitar. When he played "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" on the 1971 Christmas special, accompanying his father (Harry had to be early teen), Harry played a slightly "dampened" chord and Bing made a sarcastic little grin. He was probably thinking..."Oh boy, now I'm gonna have to...teach Ole Harry a LESSON by hitting the boy on the side of his skull with a can of Minute Maid Florida ORANGE JUICE, A-bob-boo-boo-bobby...gonna beat the..self-ESTEEM out of the boy." Something like that. Does anyone know what happened to Harry? Is he still playing? Hope so.

Why write something like this when Bing and Harry, by all accounts, had a good relationship. Bing was apparently very proud of his son's ability to play guitar. I seen that christmas special and thought nothing of the smile he gave his son, if anything I thought he was just amused. Kathryn said she did the spanking in their household because Bing became sick at the thought of it. I always think that it is sad when people post such negative things to such a beautiful clip which is supposed to give pleasure to those who appreciate the talent of these three gentlemen.

He sang “The Christmas Song” and at the end of the song after Harry played a strand of Jingle Bells Bing rubbed his head and smiled in a loving way.

I amend my comment; Harry reports having a fine relationship with his father.
Such was NOT the case with Gary, Dennis and Lindsay.
While Gary admitted later that the publisher told him "The worse the abuse, the more it will sell."
But he still maintained the physical and psychological abuse DID occur.
Too, his brothers Dennis and Lindsay died of self-inflicted gunshots.
A "murky" picture to say the least.
      Thanks for your comment.

    • @ModernBingFan
      @ModernBingFan 4 года назад +2

Dennis and Lindsay did have a troubled life after their mother’s deaths with them both becoming alcoholics, Lindsay committed suicide 10 days after his mother’s oil trust ran out of money, and Dennis was reportedly devastated by Lindsay’s death and he had divorced his wife, and was sad about that too. Bing said in several interviews that he wanted to not make as many mistakes, as he did with his first family and not being able to raise too well with his enormous popularity at the time, with his second one and his second family was raised better and has warm memories of Bing. I think Bing could’ve been a great dad the first time but the popularity and the war and everything going on professionally stopped him from being home enough to bond with them and when he was home they would’ve gotten in trouble or did something wrong, so him a disciplinarian, like many other fathers of the time, would punish them. Sadly since he wasn’t home much the punishments stayed in their minds more.

Although also about Gary about the worse the better thing, Mary Crosby said that Gary told her in tears that, “the worse you make it the more books it will sell” and apologized to her. He may have said that about the abuse (in your comment) to keep sales going because he did a nine hour interview and he didn’t remember much of the stuff he says happened in the book and some of the stuff he remembered was exaggerated in the book.

Very cute. It seems that today's elders are banished from site or simply mocked and riduculed. Power to the young, cute and rich? Am I the only one who notices such?
