Interesting video, but I'm always smoking my tobaccos right down to the very end ... for 32 years already. You're moving a cleaner from the stem through the shank into the chamber and back? 😳 You'd better avoid that since you'll be moving dirt from the shank into the stem and vv. Once I'm done with smoking, I'm getting rid of the ashes. Then it's time to pit off the stem. I'm cleaning the stem with a pipe cleaner, sometimes using lemon juice concentrate if there is too much dirt inside. After this, I'm cleaning up the shank with another pipe cleaner. Often there us much more dirt than in the stem (especially when using filters). If it's too diety, I'm also using lemon juice concentrate to clean it up. Once this is done, I'm carefully wiping away the ashes inside the bowl. Cheers Lars
Great video, especially to serve as a reminder for me to clean out the pipe after each smoking session, something I don't do often enough. But, I gotta say, I typically smoke the bowl's contents all the way down to the end. It looks as if Mr. Smith has emptied out a fair amount of usable tobacco, which just seems wasteful...unless I'm missing something.
The main thing I do different is I take the pipe apart first. I run the cleaner through the mouthpiece and stem and out the bowl end. That way I'm not drawing a dirty pipe cleaner back out through the mouthpiece. Then I take the cleaner and run it through the shank back and forth a few times, and do the bendy loop thing as in the video. Also, I never hit my pipe against anything, even my palm, with my hand anywhere near the shank. I always cup the bowl so any force goes on the strongest part of the pipe - the bottom of the bowl.
I have read to dip your pipe cleaner in a drinking alcohol like Jack Daniel’s or vodka and do the same cleaning method you used today, is that good to do?
I found that a paste made of baking soda and a little dab of water will take oxidation off vulcanite stems. I get the paste between my fingers and lightly rub/massage the oxidation off then wipe it off and apply some mineral oil after a few minutes wipe it off with a soft cloth and it restores the shine
I've found that if you pack your pipe correctly, you shouldn't have to relight it more than a couple times. Once I start to taste an ashy taste, I know it's done. Usually there is a little unburnt tobacco left, but relighting tastes horrible. So I just scoop it out at that point. Most people I know over pack their pipes and have to keep relighting them because not enough air can get through the tightly packed tobacco. Then people usually over compensate and start really pulling on it to the point that it gets way too hot, gets ashy, and goes out. If you're using loose tobacco, I recommend using the gravity method when packing so you don't over pack. You just drop tobacco in a little at a time and don't pack it down more than a little bit with your finger to keep it from falling out once it's full to the rim. If you want to smoke longer, just repack the pipe again after you've finished a bowl. As long as you're not smoking hot, you'll be fine to empty and repack your pipe several times without issue. Also make sure you're not pulling really hard after you first light the pipe. It will last longer, taste better, and reduce tongue bite.
Late to the party here. I use alcohol on a q-tip after every bowl in the shank after I go in with a bristled pipe cleaner. I alcohol a pipe cleaner and clean the stem after each smoke too. In order, after it’s cooled off and stem removed, I go - bristled pipe cleaner gently in the bowl, bristled pipe cleaner in the shank, alcohol q-tip in the shank, dry q-tip in the shank, alcohol pipe cleaner through the stem, dry pipe cleaner through the stem. I totally over do it, but I’m meticulous throughout the entire process. Smoke to clean after resting the pipe. For whatever reason, the OCD part of me attempting perfection is what makes it relaxing and enjoyable. Weirdo and in the minority, I know.
I use yogic breathing techniques to clean the airways. Plus as previous commenter says, one does not inhale into the lungs. I found pipe smoking actually has helped immensely remove mucus and dry crust from my nose
Short and sweet video, no laborious explanations.
Glad you liked it!
Very helpful video. I love the quality that SmokingPipes puts out in their videos and wish you would make more of them.
This was a great tutorial/explanation video, thank you!

He says at the beginning that it's only smoked about half way
Not just wasteful, it's also the best part.

Great video, I have a metal type of pipe and I smoke weed with the tobacco so I get a lot of resin, what is the best way to stop it from clogging?
What pipe are you smoking out of?
What pipe are you using in this video, it looks beautiful 😍
I like the pipe you are smoking. Can you tell me what pipe are you smoking?
I have read to dip your pipe cleaner in a drinking alcohol like Jack Daniel’s or vodka and do the same cleaning method you used today, is that good to do?
Typically we try to avoid adding any extra moisture to the pipe.
What tools are you using? Looks like the pick screws into your tamper?

My cleaning routine is putting my pipes on the oven or in a fire place then wait for a couple of hrs and your good to go, clay pipe is the best
Thank you
How do you remove a stainless steel tapered screen from the bowl to clean it?

Which pipe do you smoke?
Great! Thank you!
I smoke it all. Leave no leaf behind.
I just smoke it until it starts tasting bland and empty.
Spit shining the rim of the bowl is news to me - makes sense though.
Can I just lick it haha

A pipe smoking video where there isn't a ten minute introduction about what kind of pipe and tobacco the person is currently smoking!
Qtip and saliva for the rim, thanks muttnchop.
To anyone watching this clean your pipe with whisky. Thank me later.
I use the bent pipe cleaner with a little saliva first on the rim of The pipe before wiping the bowl. Otherwise the same
♥
what ahve you done to your arm sir
isnt there enough pain in the world
I smoke my corn cob till it starts popping pop corn. Thats when I know its done
Yum!

'hopefully longer than you' what does he know!?! lol
You threw away the best part.
Great, you cleaned the pipe after each use. How about lungs?
You actually typically only smoke through your mouth for the flavor, same with cigars, I always brush my teeth after smoking a pipe :)
