The key is the metaphor pair of ‘fireworks’ and ’flower works.’ He doesn’t want to strive for explosive, but fleeting glory, but lasting, meaningful art (and life). That’s not all. Most non-Koreans will assume that RM just created the term ‘flower work’ playing off ‘firework.’ WRONG. It’s the other direction. Unless you know both Korean and Korean history, you won’t know that the Korean word for fireworks is literally “fire flower play” (or fire flower works) and it predates the English word ‘fireworks.’ That’s because Koreans were using fireworks hundreds of years before anyone in the West or anywhere else. The Chinese invented them, and the Koreans made their own variations and uses. Therefore, many people think RM did one clever pun, but he actually did a two-language, two-directional pun. RM is a genius.

All the BTS guys are students of Hip Hop. Seriously, RM and SUGA came from underground hip hip and they made sure all the guys in the group listened to the genre, and they taught them a lot. Bang PD, their CEO also helped in that area. They really do take it seriously. They were supposed to be a rap/Hip Hop group before their CEO changed it. But it was a good thing, because they were able to expand into other genre's and cross and blend the genre's in their music. They all stay true to Hip Hop/R&B. That is their core. I can't wait to see what they create in 2025, when they come back from the military. J-Hope is the next one on the list to be discharged, October 17, 2024.
You know what I love, how RM's alternative album has a lot of Hip Hop mixed with Jazz in it. And some of the sounds he used were not sounds I've heard before. INDIGO was more of an exploration of different kinds of pop music while adding his HIp Hop flare, and he even has some folk and other styles. He's very versatile.

BTS from the start have pledged to be authentic and made sure that their songs were real and meaningful to them, their beinning albums had themes of teenage angst, puberty and fighting the norms and dictates of society. They even spoke about their fears and discovering of their true selves. RM has always expressed his inner thoughts and feelings through music. Wildflower came out when they just announced their move to solos albums while approaching or attending to their government requirements. RM said he is stuck now and wxplained it well in Wildflower, THank you for reacting!

I'm subscribed & I like your videos very much. Appreciating your BTS journey. RM indeed has the soul of a poet & philosopher. His mixtapes & albums are so enjoyable & each one has displayed the growth of his artistry. It's really too hard to claim a favorite song or even a favorite album although I 'm in love with his latest album "Right Place Wrong Person." I didn't think it would be possible for anything to surpass "Indigo." And you pronounced Youjeen's name perfectly.

Namjoon struggling dealing with fame and all its trappings, trying not to lose sight of himself while the whole world watches his every move.
The fireworks/wild flower/flower work lyric actually came from his post back in 2017 titled 불꽃놀이the Korean title of "Wild Flower," which rhymes with (firework). He said, "Perhaps in our lives we need wild flowers [ 들꽃; deulkkot]-rather than flames [불꽃; bulkkot] or cherry blossoms [ 벚꽃; beotkkot]- in bloom, tranquilly."
It's flower work because wildflowers are like fire works, they spread through the field just like how fireworks spread through the sky except Namjoon is saying he wants to live as a calm wildflower rather than a flashy quickly disappearing firework. So instead of living like fire flowers that is brilliant but would quickly disappear, namjoon would like to live more like wildflowers that are calm and tranquil. He used 불꽃 wordplay in prev work too
Him wanting a life like a tranquil wild flower instead of a flashy firework that is quick to burn out. He always paints such a personal and powerful image.

My favorite RM solo song is the one you just reacted to - Wildflower! 😀 It's such a powerful song. The first time I watched the MV/listened to the song, I left the CC off, and even without knowing all the words, I teared up. When I watched again with CC on, I cried. I just wanted to give him a big hug. 😄 It's such a beautiful song and MV, and Youjeen's vocals are the cherry on top. Really glad you reacted to it! Wildflower and Still Life (which I think you also reacted to) are both from Indigo, his solo album from 2022. Another one you might like from that album is Closer. There's an MV for it which is just clips from a k-drama and the sound isn't quite the same as the album track (plus I don't think there are captions), so if you were to react to it, maybe find a color-coded lyric video, as I think the original album version is the best.
I think you might also enjoy the vibe of his 2018 mixtape, Mono. There are MVs for Seoul and Forever Rain, and a lyric video for Moonchild. All three are great songs. Everythinggoes from that same album is another wonderful song, but it doesn't have an MV. Honestly you can't go wrong with solo tracks from any of the BTS members! 🙂

My favourite RM album is his latest, RPWP. Just note that whether as a group or solo, BTS B side tracks (album tracks with no m/v) are normally some of their strongest. Don't miss out just because there is no video. You would also like his track Forever Rain, very artistic video, albeit a bit sad.
Also, check out RM's features. The tracks are SMOKE SPRITE and SEXY NUKIM and there are videos for these and will give you a taste of some new artists!💜

RM made a beautiful song with Youjeen. Love her voice. I read once that she was actually living in NY now, she was an older generation of Kpop artist.

From what I understand, ever since they started making Big Bank for Big Hit, they've been provided with very expensive mics and color-matching in-ears. They each have different colors, so as not to mix them up. For example, JK's are purple, V's are green, Jin's are pink, etc.

BTS recorded a 'reality program' in Los Angeles to learn about Hip Hop called "American Hustle Life" early in their career. Warren G was one their guest stars. The episodes can be found on RUclips... There are a couple of heart wrenching moments in the first episode, but it is an interesting look, sort of behind the scenes of their coaches and the free concert lucky ARMY's (Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth) got to see.

Its next to impossible to get YT to post links. I'll add my previous try here and then see if I can get the links to post in my replies
Thanks for reacting to RM! His lyrics always hit deep. If you have time, here's an older Rdt thread where an ARMY gathered some rare information on RM and Suga when they were underground rappers (they didn't know each other then) and shows the flyers and advertisements & some old video footage. Its very good:
When you react to JHope, would you be able to include one of his freestyle videos called Hope On The Street?
This is a 17 minute compilation:
But for something shorter for now, heres a little 1 1/2 minute outtake of one of his freestyle sessions. He was an award winning hip hop street dancer prior to becoming a trainee:
