As one who grew up in Cortland NY, had a chance to tour the plant on a school field trip in 1970 or 71. Was amazed has to how a truck went from two steel rails, too a finished truck. A true hand build truck. No robots made.

I drove trucks for 38 years and the first truck I drove was a 1962 Brockway diesel dump truck which I loved and I hauled blacktop with it. Thanks for the memories. John

I drove a nice conventional Brockway in 1977 for a Cortland NY outfit called Monks transport. I lived in Cortland at the time. It's the only conventional I ever liked . As a kid I rode Brockway buses that were from the thirties.

The brockway was just a different version of mack by the time I was old enough to drive in the sixties. Our location on the west coast along with our own road conditions, didn't fair well with many east coast rigs and the first brockway I seen was parked in the salvage yard. I don't really know much about it except it just wasn't popular unless you were used to seeing autocars, macks, sterlin's and a few others. I started on a international and then mack and then pete. I just gave it up for pulling wrenches as it paid twice as much and kept me out off trouble.

Drove both, long nose, cab over. Rattling Detroits. Later Int. CAB OVERS . Brockways sounded as if you were speeding, cops watched. 55 MPH in a head wind, loaded 40 ft. Load. Them were the days . 85 retired, miss the noise, diesel smell. Perfume to me. 🐻❤❤❤

Brockway left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. One of my first jobs out of school was in a 2 way radio shop installing 2 way radios in every imaginable vehicle type from Cushman scooters to tractor trailers. Everything. One of the customers the boss picked up was a trash company with a fleet of trucks that were about 90% Brockways. Not every truck that got a 2 way radio was new. What finally did it for me was making battery connection under the trash box with garbage juice leaking from some weephole, dripping down the back of my head & neck, finding it's way into my mouth. After vomiting for a good 10 minutes and praying to God I didn't swallow any toxins, I decided I wasn't going to do that shit anymore. I'll do the tower work, but screw that mobile radio installation shit. Not the fault of Brockway to be sure, but jeebuz. >SHUDDER< I think I paid my dues on that job.

It’s too bad Brockway had to shut down after a strike in mid 1977 when Mack shut it down. While America had Brockway, Hayes in British Columbia was an equivalent size truck manufacturer, mostly using Kenworth cabs. Jack’s Chrome Shop should do a video on the history of Hayes and Scott (the Canadian Oshkosh) trucks.
