    Thanks a bunch!!! When I bought my son’s first stick, the guy at the shop taped it up for me just like this. They didn’t tape it for me the next time, and I was so lost on how to get that grip. I was wondering if it was just twisted tape, but I didn’t see how it was done. Nice to see that it’s pretty simple to do myself. Mama’s got this one! Thank you!☺️

    I use Tennis overgrips. They're meant to cover the grip of tennis racquets, so they're very grippy but also very comfortable. I find I like the feel better than actual hockey tape or grip tape. Not many people use this and I STRONGLY recommend it.

    I used to tape like this - I just discovered, this summer, tennis overgrip. Seriously. I make the knob with hockey tape, but then cover the top 10" with tennis overgrip. It's incredible. Stays tacky when wet, no grit like hockey tape, so it doesn't ruin your gloves. Love it!

    • @loganpalmiter3911

      Black tennis grip will still ruin your gloves

    • @psychdude
      @psychdude 10 лет назад

      Logan Palmiter it hasn't so far. Hasn't even made a little bit of a mark. And there is no difference between black and white tennis over grip other than the colours. No textural difference at all.

    • @kevinwrightm
      @kevinwrightm 9 лет назад

      I do it this way also with white overgrip tape. It doesn't last as long as it does on my racket but a good 15 games and it still holds up, still good feel and grip.

    Great tips, like how you keep the knob at the top short. For years I used the full width of the tape, which is unnecessary, adds extra weight and wastes tape. Also good point on using white tape for the grip, as it leaves less marks. Will be doing this for my kids from now on. Great video, thanks for sharing.

    Regarding the plastic plug at the top of the stick. I put tape across that both ways to make sure it does not come out. It can come out and the first time it resulted in seven stitches to the little finger when top hand hit a stanchion between the glass panels - granted the gloves may have been worn out but that's a common situation.

    I never thought about taping up my stick that way. It works so much better but the only thing i left out was the knob at the top end of my stick because i like having more of a leveled surface all along the top grip.

  • @ShadySLAYER666
    @ShadySLAYER666 11 лет назад

    I do the blade the exact same way he does it for the same reason. For the handle I take two little pieces and lay them perpendicular on the very top on top of the plug and bend them over (just to cover the plug, I think it looks nicer), and then I start at the top and tape it so that when I'm holding my stick the tape goes about 2-3 inches past where my glove ends. I don't do a knob at the end because I've always held my hockey stick at the very end and it seems awkward for me to have it. I've tried the "rope grip" technique that was shown in the video but I prefer a nice, consistant, even feel. Also, If you feel lazy or you're in a hurry instead of retaping the entire blade just take a strip of tape and put it along the bottom edge of your blade (where it touches the ice) and then bend it over and that should hold you over for practice.

  • @-hungryhippo-6227

    I tape my blade the same way, but I do a candy cane design on the shaft so I have a grip on my whole shaft. I also use white for my blade and orange for the can't cane design on the shaft. this is on my street hockey stick

    I use this method also. I bought a used Reebok stick from Play it Again Sports and the last owner had done this, so I dissected it and figured it out. I honestly thought it would be string under the tape but it wasnt, I think I will refer to this as the "MacGyver Tape Job" haha

    I have used the rubber ends for the knob. But I take shoe laces and cut off the plastic tab and use that near the knob. I then use little bit of tape to hold in place as I spiral the shoe lace down the shaft about 6 inches. At the bottom (6 inches down) I wrap another piece of tape around to hold at bottom then wrap the shoe lace back up to top. Then finish by taping over the shoe lace.
    I would like to see how tape the toe of the stick as I haven't found a very good way to do that.

  • @Bassani97
    @Bassani97 11 месяцев назад

    Not sure how to video reply, so here’s mine…
    Start with a knob, using 1” cloth tape I do 18 rounds. After that I take 3 strips to cover the top, knob & about a 1/2” under the knob making sure to fold the sides for a cleaner finish. I then go around that with 1 full wrap starting from the knob to about 1.5 inches below the bottom of the knob (similar to your top layer). Finish off with some baby powder to take away the tackiness from the tape.
    Basically I just like to know where the end of the stick is & I hate any other sort of grip & want full freedom of movement to slide as I wish without hinderance. Any sticks that I get that have that grip tac crap on it I will sand down so it’s as smooth as a babies bum (needless to say at that point that I get cheaper sticks as a result). I might have to try the ripping method to save some tape.

    i tape it the same way. except when i do the knob, i use the bottom spilt first. that way when i use the top i can just continue taping with the full tape to wrap it a few more times to finish it off the way you did.
