Just an observation and I'm not saying it's right or wrong because I'm sure there are pros that do it like you. I always thought it was best to start at the toe, that way the leading edge of the tape is covered by the next wrapping as the puck travels heel to toe on a the forehand shot/pass. When you do it like you did, the puck spins over that exposed leading edge of the tape where the tape lifts off sometimes. Not sure I explained that understandably. Always wondered if it made some small difference in stability or speed of the puck off the blade.
+Gabe Armijo I think I understand the question and another video I watched does agree with you. It is my sense that since he places each "winding" exactly at the half point of the tape, the edge of the tape sits perfectly next to the previous winding so they are all the same height, kind of like tiles, and the effect you describe is perhaps negligible. Just a thought, who knows...

You definitely know a lot more about hockey than me, but this is my two point critique: 1) If you start taping from the toe (rather than the heel) the puck will travel WITH the grain of the tape on wrist shots, which would presumably be ever so slightly better for shot velocity and control. 2) I always tape my blade with pure black tape. White contrasts the most with a black puck, showing your opponents the position of the puck when they stick check you and letting the goalie see more when you're getting ripping your shots on goal.
Yeah I noticed a ton of NHLers use white on their blades, so apparently there's no advantage at all. But intuitively you'd think goalies would struggle that much more to see when the puck is in a shooting position on the blade.
As a goalie I am fully supportive of white tape or most bright colors of tape. Some of the hardest shots to stop are quick release snaps off perfectly smooth black tape. All kidding aside, this is a tiny edge. You are not giving up THAT much by using whatever tape you want. But half of beating a goalie is a mind game anyways so... at least that's how I felt about it as the one stopping the shots.
When it comes to 2:45 stuff i do that to cover the bottom of the blade too. I wonder if it has negative affect on shots. On how the blade and shaft behaves. I mean if you have basically double layer at bottom of the blade how could it affect? Plus sides are that the used tape is easy to remove and i don't always have remove the old one from the bottom. Seems to last longer overall if you're lazy taper. It warns of wear pretty well because i don't want to expose the naked blade against ice. I want the blade to last.
Lol damn YT...I can't believe I'm watching tape vids but I am. No, agree. Back in my youth I always started with 1 strip on bottom edge then went toe to heel, making the overlaps run to benefit puck travel. That way the puck doesn't catch the edge of the overlaps. But I also use wax so that prob negates that, but always had the strip on the bottom edge
We must have gone to the same Stick taping class... Right down to using the old tape to clean the blade off of old glue etc.. I do use scissors to cut the tape at the toe so it's perfectly clean looking..
Just asking for a tip: I play inline hockey just as a hobby, twice a week. My stick is super cheap, we skate on parquet and I'm not that good. About one month and a half I taped my stick, but now the bottom part (the thin bottom of the blade which touch the floor) has gone away, but the tape on the blade is fully intact. Should I leave the tape this way, or should I put a small piece of tape under the blade, without going up in the blade? Keep in mind that I don't need to tape the stick again
Ire Quintaluce almost always the tape on the very bottom wears off, notice it happened to him in the video. It really doesn't matter, as the edge of your blade almost never touches the puck. So no, you don't need to and it doesn't matter.
I also play inline, where do you play? But I re-tape my stick after three games or about five practices. But I just got a lot more tape so may be doing it more often.

White tape makes it easier to pick up the puck off the stick for goalies. Black tape makes it harder to see coming off the stick in my experience, if you want an edge.
Can tech sports tape is the best but you can only get it if you know someone in the pros or if you live in Canada. I know a pro trainer that gives it to me $1 a roll.
The ribbon is turned upside down. We must go from the end of the stick to the heel. Otherwise, during a shot, the puck will always come against the direction of the ribbon and break it in the long run.
You should use black tape because it blends in with the puck and when your on a breakaway it would be hard for the goalie to see it. And your not suppose to look down at the puck when your skating so you don’t need white tape
No, you're not supposed to look down...you're supposed to use peripheral vision to see the puck. All the more reason high contrast is useful. If you can make out the puck's location through feel and peripheral, you won't need to look down. But I still don't agree that white tape is needed, because from my eye's perspective, the puck is against the ice in front of my stick. From the keeper's perspective, it may appear to be against the stick.
Potato Tornado I didn't realize you could hear tone through a comment... if that's a joke I never wanna go to a party with you are the other guy - one day if you work really hard you might be able to tell a decent joke and get a friend.

Sean was so laid back in this era! :) The greatest hockey coach and resource on the internet. Thanks a million for all the vids.
You could also rub the stick tape with a puck to make it darker. Not quite black but a dark grey. This also helps protect your stick tape from gashes.

What you said makes sense too. I usually do it in a hurry so less margin for error my way I suppose!
I've never seen the toe done like that, interesting. I use scissors, i don't like any folds or bumps
believe it or not, McDavid tapes the toe the same way.
tapeing the stick starts at 2:09

YEV!ATHAN i have heard people say that but i don't personally think it is harder for a goalie.
mikey curtin I'm a goalie and it is harder
For me I type with white tape because I think it throws the players and goalies off more.

Hi.I am a newbie💪
Wondering how often should I replace the tape?🙇

NordenTV I know I'm not itrain hockey but in my use of doing that it adds durability and doesn't have negative affects on shots
I recommend taping toe to heal so when you take a shot the tape that overlaps won't roll over

I had to listen to the ending 4 times and I still can't believe my ears. You are the exact opposite of a crappy stick handler. 👍
I just discovered the toe tape trick. Neat!
No tape on the bottom of blade for extra protection? I use renfrew extra wide tape. Takes about 8-10 wraps and she’s done.
Lol damn YT...I can't believe I'm watching tape vids but I am. No, agree. You filmed this at the Humber Valley Outdoor Rink in Toronto
best video on youtube
Thank you for all your support!
Going over to white tape on the blade next week. Will let you know if it makes me any less terrible at stick handling 😜

Alex Steil it can wear off and go to the wood but if the stick is wood it has a protecting layer beforemthemwood
I also play inline, where do you play?
But I re-tape my stick after three games or about five practices.
But I just got a lot more tape so may be doing it more often.
wow thank you so much you helped me alot
I tried that and it turned out really good
Awesome!
What curve is that stick
Thank you, I usually suck at taping my toe over
what kind of tape is used for wrapping the blade?
+xXCntDangleXx Thanks much.
+kingslider duct tape or electrical tape also works
+zach cattral 😂
I use Scotch tape and I get genos all day m8
I don't know why but you seem like such a nice person to meet
I roll the old tape up in a ball and just run it on the bottom quickly to get the residue off.. Seems a little quicker
I roll it up then bounce it off a team-mates head ! BINK !
just used high visibility emulsion on the front side with wax , an eye watering glare almost zebra pattern.
Do a tutorial on how to wrap a stick blade with rainbow colored tape please
he sounds like he's really cold
Well... He is on ice. haha
No, he sounds like he's congested

Can you tape it with black
I do the exact same tape job!!! Good Video!!

@@DerekKerton I use camoflage tape, no one sees it.
what if we're not strong enough to do it
Tip one: Don't do that on the ice and leave dangerous scraps for people to slip on ... and don't throw scraps on the bench.
Tip Two: Don't be an arrogant ass and assume people didn't simply pick it up when they left....
GolfGuyR1 tip three don't take a joke so seriously

MrRp25 i
that good video thank you very much
No wax?
What curve
Carts3bandits I watched this on Tv and say it was an Ovechkin P92, 87 flex
actually, going from toe to heel makes the puck roll the direction of the tape when you shoot
THATS THE STUPIDEST THING IVE EVER HEARD😂
carson whitford coz thw overlap of the tape makes it better for shhoting and doesn't peel off
carson whitford at least i have a brain, not life you
+Aymeric Beaulieu going toe to heal makes no difference
+Aymeric Beaulieu False as hell...
I put black tape or electric tape on my stick but now that I think about it not the best idea I have ever had
Dylandossantos 29 hi Dylan

Why not athletic tape for athletic things?
shawn whats up do you remember kevin?
Hello Greg!
Did this guy play NHL?
I do the same thing
i dont get why some players tape only a half of their blade
ShootTheBullet it gives you better puck control for when you dangle and also it makes the puck roll up the toe for a higher shot
oh ok
ye but how does tape interact with shooting/dangling
Will Bmx . Hockey ok tnx
Cuz dey don't need it at deyz heel
sir your country name
