I always come back to Alan Watts when I need to clear my head and even though I have moved Beyond some of those simplistic teachings into more complicated areas, I always come back to the basics because that's where the truth lies.

I hear ya. Sometimes it helps to hear “simple” messages again. Sometimes I get beaten down by life and I need to be reminded of how amazing the universe is and our part in it all.

Lectures really... He was one of the greatest philosophers to ever exist in my opinion. One who fully embraced all of life's aspects and perspectives we are 'trapped' in as a human.

@@fayjan73 Thanks, I don’t know about you but with me, he opens a place inside my awareness that I hadn’t known was there. Before him I thought men using words like beauty to describe every day experience was a bit dodgy but he makes you see that we have grown up in such a toxic world. Its made us toxic too. Why the hell not hold a flower, spend an hour contemplating its beauty. Its a far more fulfilling way to spend an afternoon than most of the ways we do. Anyone who can use words to alter my approach so deeply is an artist. IMHO.

Actually after couple of years of meditation for an hour a day I had a satori when listening to Alan’s Voice, so yeah it kind of helped a lot.

I've also watched videos on the subject that this present moment your experiencing is the whole universe and the rest of the universe is imagined inside this one moment and only when you go out side or look into a telescope dose more of the universe appear, outside of that all it exists as is thoughts that theres a universe out there. But instead this one moment is the entire universe. Makes sense really if you just sit down and realise this is all there is.
The universe is play and drama. The ultimate reality is the self. Everything happens on the self. All senory experiences are vibrations of the self, all of us.

when we listen to him lets remeber alot of his understanding was gained through teaching of the east Tao ,buddism hinduism ect and those ways of understanding our place in the universe he is not a god or a great philosopher but a person who was born and lived in the west modern world that found salvation and truth in eastern philosophy and wanted to share that enlightenment and trandsecndance to this fast pased modern world bless his studys and interpretaions and for rendering them to us his inner thought to simplify this to the west so that way may understand the east better

Disagreements and misunderstandings are proof that we are unique personalities with freewill. Having personalities is proof that personality can only be bestowed on a creature by a Creator with personality, hence our Father in Heaven, and not just a mechanistic universe or some mystical force.

The illusion is that we are separate. You are the universe, experiencing itself. God is no higher or no lower than you. We are all connected
I don't know why I cried after listening to this. It just hit me in a profound way recognizing myself and every human being part of this universe and how we are manipulated by society, wars and politics.
It’s your ego that’s making you sad, but once you learn to accept that we’re all connected. You will begin to understand the balance and peace that can be achieved for all of reality.
Nah, it is low-key sad. We are God, who created this world to be a play where he gets to play every role, and forget that he plays every role. We're so alone, we created an entire multiverse whithn ourselves just to forget how lonely we are
That's why many Buddhists practice isolation; existence is fundamentally lonely. This universe just is and there's nothing and no one outside of it.

telling people they are the universe is a good way to give people a god complex. the truth is, you are just a little person. you are trapped in a body. you have the same anxieties and fears and uncomfortability with being a human that everyone else does. and if they don't, they probably aren't as in tune with themselves as you are. you aren't the universe observing itself. you are a human being, a very small thing, which crawled out of the mud and has only just cleaned itself off in terms of the history of time... and you saw your reflection in a pond and said "i am". that is who and what and where you are. never forget. we have so much further to go. so so much further. so get your shit together and push that boulder like sisyphus. if we all do, maybe humanity can achieve the wonders it dreams of.
The same thing that makes up the universe is what your made up of too, so in a factual and literal sense you are the universe, but your different by how your configured it’s like having a common ancestor with the universe.
Overall your not wrong, but ask yourself where did the components of humanity come from we didn’t just spawn but came from somewhere else aka the universe.
You poor thing, you're still so trapped by your ego the way of thinking you were programmed to have. You view the universe in symbols rather than viewing the universe for what it actually is.
Don't feel bad, it takes a years of meditation to break that programming.
I am born of the same matter that which makes the stars and celestial bodies.
I am born of the south and north winds, walker of the grand plains and the great mountains.
I am the waking universe, staring back at itself. And I am witness to the majesty of reality.
