The prologue mural is based on Man O War album covers. It sounded like in the JP announcement show they will use the names they used in the 90s again to get it licensed in the US.
Another smaller correction: VIZ only released the series up to volume 19, not 20. Hopefully, if the Netflix series proves popular enough, they will finally re-release the manga up to the current volume of 27.
Maybe, for the anime reboot, even after the trailer was released, as consultant, Hagiwara (and his current assistants, maybe) should help the studio to: - Continue the manga's story through the anime's writing until they can have better anime-original ending. - Break the anime as seasons, instead of being non-stop ongoing like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and/or Naruto, so that the studio can have more time (between seasons) to improve the manga's story and animation. - Solve/fill the manga's plot holes with the right original stories provided by Kazushi Hagiwara and people who loved/cared about the manga. - Fix the names for the sake of wider audience or respecting copyrights (why not). - Reinvent characters along with their origins, arcs, and/or motivations, without betraying the manga fans (for example, Lushe, as Dark Schneider, has the same dream with Yoko, but this time, the nightmare turns on him, like the whole world turns on him for being trampled by him. After then, Lushe from chapter 1 regains old memories earlier as Dark Schneider after waking up, and acts more like one, which changes his life and everyone's perceptions around him even more. After regaining his old memories, Lushe is no longer bumbling, whiny, and clueless kid anymore, but a normal boy/guy with mature brain who can still understand better about any situation that happens around him and can deal with it by using his head, even without having his old powers as Dark Schneider). - Replace our real world as main setting with alternate (formerly futuristic) planet that is similar but also different. - Remake Christian characters as more different deities that are also inspired by real life myths or histories (Norse, Greek, Chinese, or whatever, but Norse myth could be the most fitting) - Fix/rewrite the adult contents to be more tame or understandable than annoying. - Explore more about main conflicts (men vs gods, good vs evil, truth vs lies, science vs nature, power vs weakness, love vs hate, forgiveness vs revenge, magic vs religion, law vs crime, angels vs devils, fidelity vs infidelity, purity vs corruption, courage vs cowardice, or whatever).

I thought he was more a parody of Dee Snider of Twisted Sister with the long hair and 80s metal outfits Twisted Sister wore. I am so bored with the endless Isekai/harem clones and cream puff MCs. The twitter puritans are going to have a meltdown. In the announcement show the director said expect a true to the original modern retelling with 2 seasons covering the main manga series including the infamous clothes eating slime monster scene that started the trope and the dark elf's backstory. He said he was prepared for strong reactions lol. I hope this remake gets a fresh printing of the manga in the US.
They turned Dark into a cream puff. Example when he got slapped by the princess in original version he yelled at her "You'll pay for that one b*tch!" This is watered down woke version. Not the real deal at all.
My bastard!! DVD is my most valued DVD for me. I guess the netflix will finish the God of destruction arc with 20 episodes. For younger audience, Bastard was the one punch man of early 2000.
I don't even want to compare the 2, Bastard looks like a more enjoyable show to watch... Nothing against One Punch Man, I enjoyed their other show "Mob Psycho 100" more

I absolutely love the new Netflix adaptation, I’ve watched the 13 episodes multiple times now, the voice acting is excellent, especially the English version, it’s the best but the Japanese is good too. And the animation looks great, I love it, I’d love this studio to animate Berserk, this style would suit it perfectly.
Yeah, that same studio was the one who did the bad 2016 Berserk anime. That was before they got gud with BASTARD!! and Call of the Night. Though, maybe they’ll get another shot and redeem themselves

Aight Bet. I've never heard of this but I'm interested. I'll check out the original OVA first. I love the look of old anime that came out of the 80s/90s so it looks like it'll be fun to watch. I don't mind the gore or the gratuitous nude scenes that's what I love. 😂😍
@@AzerinaM The old version is 1000 hasty and unfaithful to the manga, removing and resizing half of the characters. The oavs are also devoid of the Heavy Metal inspirations that are the inspiring source of Hagiwara for the realization of the manga.

They butchered the characters and it felt like a reading of the script, no real passion for the characters essence. Dark was not a cocky bastard sounding guy, the lesser mages both had zero real panic of fearing being sent to hell. It was a YAWN and made me fall alseep twice! This will not be going into my anime collection, unlike the original OVA. Maybe this will help sell DVD or Blue Ray versions of the original OVA. I will buy that one!
in a nutshell, its one of the most popular OG ecchi (even borderline H) mangas... has quite a catchy story too... sucks that the author seems to be not that keen on finishing the story anymore, and recently takes years of hiatus after each volume

This is a great anime. I love the new reboot. They've done well!! The music is the hit that drives it home. The opener & closer are more than perfect! I can see that it won't be everyone's cup of tea but it's good! Don't take it too seriously or you'll get annoyed. Just laugh along with it and let it be redundant and silly and you'll enjoy it

I don't think the series is going to end up being for me unfortunately. I watched the first episode of the reboot and had a good enough time, but honestly I don't think I'm going to be able to get past the constant lewdness. (The age gap between Lucian & Yoko is skeeving me the hell out) Which is a shame because honestly I dig the aesthetics a bunch! And the OVA's animation does look like it absolutely kicks ass! I might end up just looking up the fight scenes in that case.
Worth a mention that Bastard shares a hurdle with Jojo, by which many naming conventions are tweaked for the English release as it is a copyright nightmare.
when i was in my teen i was watching "Bastard" 6 ep OVA and it was amazing so i decide to read manga to know more. It was much more brutal with lots of violence and blood and erotic then anime but i really love how halerious it is. New Netfix adaptation have lots same or similar sceen from manga so its much more interesting. I personaly fall in love with new adaptation but i cant get used to new voice actor of Dark Schneider - Kisho Taniyama. I had my hopes up knowing, what was he's previev rols. It's little to "shouting" for me. In my opinion best voice for that character have Kazuki Yao. Exept my personal opinion new actor, made really good expesion of main "manga" character.
So glad they kept the essence of Bastard! in this adaptation and didn't try to Netflix Dark Schneider up by making him progressive or some nonsense. Glad to see it as a reader of the old school manga and enjoyed of the OVA. Maybe if this does well we'll get further than the OVA did.

I feel like the netflix anime series is kinda slow with the action in comparison with the ova from 90. Don t get me wrong I like the story ,the plot,the jokes and the animation but sometimes is kinda boring when in every episode the villain of the episode goes:Naaaniiiii? when Dark Schneider does something incredible
I kinda felt the humans created a God, that's disenchanted by how it was created...and believe it was made via the darkness of Humanity...it faces another God and is defeated by someone in dragon armour...but the battled destroyed the world...and the new world begins where humans and other creatures coexisting and begin redeveloping but are in a Medievil stage where magic is returned to the world... Dark Snieder (dark tailor) is said to be evil, but his resurrection via the boy, causes him to learn things he never did before...he's some kind of gid of evil boosted by the energy the gave the army if darkness power... But I feel the nane Metalicana us another reference to Earth and an idea an immortal rules the inner planet..and ideas if light and frequency...more Asian stuff I think... I'm still awaiting to find out who he is, as he maybe the dragon, that destroyed the dark god that's being awakened slowly... However his character always contrast the rugid ideas people around him have, and religion.. yet his boy form seem some reference to the generic udea if god or an angel ...I kinda feel he's the evil gid being reborn and us an anti hero popularised by Manga or Eastern comic do this is kinda so Asian...lol...and a mind fuck...
Well 2nd season on Netflix out now 24 episodes. And can safely say Netflix did it justice slightly toned down but the animation and more in depth story more than make up for it 😊
Not a bad new adaptation...but neither great. The artstyle is ''ok'' but I prefered the old anime style. Bodies look butchered in the new one, they can't even make a good looking butt lol The flow of the animation looked better in the old one too and more dark. It's fine to have bright and colorful colors...but it's too much. Also the voive over in english was top tier in the old version particularly DS. Oh, and it's censored...So yeah. If they can't show any gore and a god damn nipple, leave the job to a studio ready to do it.
I hate censorship and deluding the story. I'm all for fan service and sexual themes. I mean Netflix has Big Mouth and Human Resources... Unless it's to improve the story, example: FF7 Remake which is more like a different game than the original but core wise connected...
I'm watching the new version now. So far the lack of backbone from the new creators is somewhat disappointing. Yes there's more content, and more "ex" scenes ( well not really, mass effect had more ex than this ) but there are no nipples. So now the ever present shadow in Dark's crotch has spread to women having no nipples. Like its just an anime, its a heavy metal anime at that. We have become to prudish these days. The animation for the new version is nice though and the fight scenes are decent. Some of the dialog from the old version I kinda miss to.

I absolutely love the new Netflix adaptation, I’ve watched the 13 episodes multiple times now, the voice acting is excellent, especially the English version, it’s the best but the Japanese is good too. And the animation looks great, I love it, I’d love this studio to animate Berserk, this style would suit it perfectly.
Yeah, that same studio was the one who did the bad 2016 Berserk anime. That was before they got gud with BASTARD!! and Call of the Night. Though, maybe they’ll get another shot and redeem themselves
They also did Blade of the Immortal, so they are clearly good with this sort of material.

Loved the OVA, read the manga and still waiting Hagiawar to finish it, excited about the new adaptation - well deserved, and hope it will give Hagiwara a boost to finish the story - don't want it end on clifhanger like Berserk.

They watered it down with new version and made Dark more of a wuss than a cocky arrogant Bastard. They totally butchered The Count. It was so boring that i fell asleep twice.

Aight Bet. I've never heard of this but I'm interested. I'll check out the original OVA first. I love the look of old anime that came out of the 80s/90s so it looks like it'll be fun to watch. I don't mind the gore or the gratuitous nude scenes that's what I love. 😂😍

The oavs are also devoid of the Heavy Metal inspirations that are the inspiring source of Hagiwara for the realization of the manga.

They butchered the characters and it felt like a reading of the script, no real passion for the characters essence. Dark was not a cocky bastard sounding guy, the lesser mages both had zero real panic of fearing being sent to hell. It was a YAWN and made me fall alseep twice! This will not be going into my anime collection, unlike the original OVA. Maybe this will help sell DVD or Blue Ray versions of the original OVA. I will buy that one!
in a nutshell, its one of the most popular OG ecchi (even borderline H) mangas... has quite a catchy story too... sucks that the author seems to be not that keen on finishing the story anymore, and recently takes years of hiatus after each volume

It sucks that this got put in Netflix jail, so no chance of being available on any other service in the future. Maybe we will get a Blu-Ray release, but who knows when that will be.

I love the new reboot. They've done well!! The music is the hit that drives it home. The opener & closer are more than perfect!
I can see that it won't be everyone's cup of tea but it's good! Don't take it too seriously or you'll get annoyed. Just laugh along with it and let it be redundant and silly and you'll enjoy it

I don't think the series is going to end up being for me unfortunately. I watched the first episode of the reboot and had a good enough time, but honestly I don't think I'm going to be able to get past the constant lewdness. (The age gap between Lucian & Yoko is skeeving me the hell out) Which is a shame because honestly I dig the aesthetics a bunch! And the OVA's animation does look like it absolutely kicks ass! I might end up just looking up the fight scenes in that case.
It makes me laugh when 3/4 of the spells are metal band names. The kingdom of De Purple did not survive.
Worth a mention that Bastard shares a hurdle with Jojo, by which many naming conventions are tweaked for the English release as it is a copyright nightmare.
I’d like to see the bastard manga make a return and maybe get a new release in the vein of Fullmetal alchemist metal edition.

when i was in my teen i was watching "Bastard" 6 ep OVA and it was amazing so i decide to read manga to know more. It was much more brutal with lots of violence and blood and erotic then anime but i really love how halerious it is. New Netfix adaptation have lots same or similar sceen from manga so its much more interesting. I personaly fall in love with new adaptation but i cant get used to new voice actor of Dark Schneider - Kisho Taniyama. I had my hopes up knowing, what was he's previev rols. It's little to "shouting" for me. In my opinion best voice for that character have Kazuki Yao. Exept my personal opinion new actor, made really good expesion of main "manga" character.

Is every single episode ever. Oh my god he's using that spell. It reuses the same points over and over and over and over and over and over again.
So glad they kept the essence of Bastard! in this adaptation and didn't try to Netflix Dark Schneider up by making him progressive or some nonsense. Glad to see it as a reader of the old school manga and enjoyed of the OVA. Maybe if this does well we'll get further than the OVA did.

I feel like the netflix anime series is kinda slow with the action in comparison with the ova from 90. Don t get me wrong I like the story ,the plot,the jokes and the animation but sometimes is kinda boring when in every episode the villain of the episode goes:Naaaniiiii? when Dark Schneider does something incredible

I kinda felt the humans created a God, that's disenchanted by how it was created...and believe it was made via the darkness of Humanity...it faces another God and is defeated by someone in dragon armour...but the battled destroyed the world...and the new world begins where humans and other creatures coexisting and begin redeveloping but are in a Medievil stage where magic is returned to the world...
Dark Snieder (dark tailor) is said to be evil, but his resurrection via the boy, causes him to learn things he never did before...he's some kind of gid of evil boosted by the energy the gave the army if darkness power...
But I feel the nane Metalicana us another reference to Earth and an idea an immortal rules the inner planet..and ideas if light and frequency...more Asian stuff I think...
I'm still awaiting to find out who he is, as he maybe the dragon, that destroyed the dark god that's being awakened slowly...
However his character always contrast the rugid ideas people around him have, and religion.. yet his boy form seem some reference to the generic udea if god or an angel ...I kinda feel he's the evil gid being reborn and us an anti hero popularised by Manga or Eastern comic do this is kinda so Asian...lol...and a mind fuck...
Well 2nd season on Netflix out now 24 episodes. And can safely say Netflix did it justice slightly toned down but the animation and more in depth story more than make up for it 😊
Not a bad new adaptation...but neither great. The artstyle is ''ok'' but I prefered the old anime style. Bodies look butchered in the new one, they can't even make a good looking butt lol The flow of the animation looked better in the old one too and more dark. It's fine to have bright and colorful colors...but it's too much. Also the voive over in english was top tier in the old version particularly DS. Oh, and it's censored...So yeah. If they can't show any gore and a god damn nipple, leave the job to a studio ready to do it.

I'm watching the new version now. So far the lack of backbone from the new creators is somewhat disappointing. Yes there's more content, and more "ex" scenes ( well not really, mass effect had more ex than this ) but there are no nipples. So now the ever present shadow in Dark's crotch has spread to women having no nipples. Like its just an anime, its a heavy metal anime at that. We have become to prudish these days. The animation for the new version is nice though and the fight scenes are decent. Some of the dialog from the old version I kinda miss to.
