Shuriken also comes flattened as well as a diamond shape, the rebar could be used to make a shaken since they stick very easily. I think they make them out of cast iron fences. Ninjas are very resourceful.
That "bro, whaddya waitin on?!" followed by that pause was really awkward for some reason haha...Another great vid once again thanks man, cant wait to try some of these out, ive always loved throwing knives and spikes etc...
Could you show us how to make a knife that has a saw part on it so basically a camping knife with some more bits and bobs, oh and make it relatively cheap and easy to make if possible... Loved the video, definitely going to try it out but I'm a noob in knife/throwing stars.
Please make a Balisong video with minimal power tools! i am currently starting with knife making and i would like to make a Balisong as my first knife. Thank you for the videos, keep it up!
Walter, love the videos! A few questions, what happened to the karambit series? and I am trying to start making knives, could you make a safety type video, a bit of what to or not to do? One thing I see frequently is knife makers wearing respirators, when to wear one and what type to buy? Thanks for the vids!
I just bought some unthreaded dowels and filed a pointy end like the absolute novice that I am lol. I don't even know if this can be heat treated. Probably not.
Hey Walter, quick question. I'm tired of using under-par things as an anvil and am looking for a good one. The problem is I'm also redoing an old truck and it's hard to juggle money between the two. Know a place where I can get a decent anvil that's a bit cheaper than $500? Doesn't have to be anything crazy, just something useable.
Hey Walter, I got a question and I would really love to hear your opinion. I've been making knives for a few months now and I'm thinking about buying a belt sander. Thing is I'm a 17 year old guy so I can't be spending small fortunes on true belt grinders like you have. My parents are willing to help me out to some extent. I was checking out some of the 'stationary tabletop belt grinders', the small ones with a disc grinder and a small belt. Are they any good and if so which ones would you recommend?
Just about any of them will work faster than a file, but you may need to modify the platen to be able to get your plunge lines. The shop i work for uses this type of belt sander for deburring parts and such- www.amazon.com/Kalamazoo-Sander-Motor-Contact-Wheel/dp/B000REJM3K . Not ideal, but I have made a number of knives working on my lunch break with them. I had to make a 1" wide by 1/8" thick upside down j shaped bracket to push the belt out away from the platen so I could make my plunge lines. You might be able to do something similar with any of the budget belt sanders to get you started. It might not be ideal, but in my case it worked fine. Good luck.
cody116261 historically they were made both ways now most people just call them throwing darts I have made some with large construction nails and a file they are very easy to make
Also presses draw out material easier and is controlled better. Thick material press thin knife bevels etc power hammer. Walter was right power hammers are loud. Cheers - nyatiblades
got mine in a box at a garage sale, 5bucks, old ass shit, used badly in some cases but time + patience /elbow grease = pay off just got to get those hands dirty
Me. Sorrells I love the videos very informative I am looking for any knife makers in the North Carolina area around Boone in the next few weeks I will be on vacation there from the first week in July to the last week about I am a machinist that is out of the business and have 2 large blocks of steel if anyone wants it. It is to heavy to ship so if anyone is interested I will bring it to NC with me for trade or barter. I will list type of material here tomorrow when I get it out of storage 😊 Thanks Shawn
Daryl Hannah actually wears an eye patch because Master Pai Mei snatched her eye out for being disrespectful. However, I'll wear eye protection anyway. Great videos.
If you are creative you could make one out of any appropriate size steel. BE CAREFUL IF ITS GALVANIZED. It will cause you to become sick as fuck if you breathe in the fumes when heated.
it is not a shuriken, the definition of shuriken is a weapon in the form of a star with projecting blades or points, used as a missile in some martial arts.
actually a shuriken is defined as a primarily projectile weapon that can be easily concealed and translates to "blade behind the hand" a throwing star is a shuriken but a shuriken does not need to be a throwing star a kunai is a shuriken as well for that matter
You didn't make a shuriKEN, not shuriKAN, by the way. Small detail, but still. Back to the main point - you made Senbon. And honestly, those are VERY thick Senbon.
This man could be an actor.
Seriously he would be the best villain I can imagine
Literally the best knife maker on RUclips
Fantastic as always, Walter. You're an excellent craftsman, filmmaker, and teacher!
In my opinion you have one of the best channels on pooptube. Love the attitude toward teaching and creating. Keep up the great work.
+Hicham Kerkour I found him through ZNA productions, I like the end result of most of his projects but for some reason im not a fan of his videos
No one:
Absolutely no one :
Guru: NAIL!!
this video has reminded me of an old pun: "can a ninja kill someone from far away? -well, Shuriken!"
thank you for the 2 videos on the subject.
Cool vid bro! Are you going to make a video on axes?
Leaving a comment here because I'd love to see this as well ;)
+Hugo Pekelharing yeah me too
Axes are #1 !!
Don't think he makes axes, it's a very different skill to knife making.
+Walrus Warlock well he made a katana, hats harder than am axe I'd imagine
Love the silliness of this video!
Are you still going to make the full Karambit?
Yeah...hopefully in the next month or so. But I'm making no promises...
awesome, looking forward to it, hopefully

hey Walter Sorrels mark here from Barbados I love this video
Hey would love to see another knife making video. Thanks for what you do
yes I've done it also my father works in pipelines and they put blankets over them so the welds dont harden the steel
That "bro, whaddya waitin on?!" followed by that pause was really awkward for some reason haha...Another great vid once again thanks man, cant wait to try some of these out, ive always loved throwing knives and spikes etc...
Shuriken? Sure I can.

Loved the video, definitely going to try it out but I'm a noob in knife/throwing stars.
Can you do a video on making a Kunai knife or rope dart or anything of the sort? Thanks
or a spira prime?
I love knives and knife making your really good at it too good job
Can you put the link for all your social medias in the video description?
You're awesome Walter.
Nice video. I'm a totally newbie about metal-work. Just currious about why you put the metal in oil, after it's been heating up?
Walter you used peanut oil could you use a solid fat like shorting lard to quench. Just think outside the paint can.
You can, but it is a much slower quench speed. So in some steels you might miss the pearlite nose using it. Like 1095.
Please make a Balisong video with minimal power tools! i am currently starting with knife making and i would like to make a Balisong as my first knife. Thank you for the videos, keep it up!

what is the belt sander wheel your using, and what grit and how long do they last compared to regular 2 by 72 belts ?
does it matter what kind of oil you use in quenching steel? thanks.
Would you consider making a video about how you got into knife making?
he already did that
Cool darts! Great humor!
simply outstanding.
Can you make a gut knife please? Would be awsome, going hunting soon and plan on making one myself
My friend wants me to make an m9 bayonet ( which I have never made) do you have tips or possibly make a video?
I just bought some unthreaded dowels and filed a pointy end like the absolute novice that I am lol. I don't even know if this can be heat treated. Probably not.
Walter, have you got experience with 80CrV2 steel? is it good in your opinion?
awesome vid.. why are the anvil edges so sharp, shouldnt they be rounded?
they should be rounded yes.
amazing video Walter! thanks!!!!
Did you make your forge press or buy it

Lemonitus well I'm not a great blacksmith but I got my 140pound anvil of ebay. It costed about 100€ a bit cleaning of the face and it was good again
At about 7:45 you say "tap them for 3/16 by 18" I think that should be 5/16. Not a big deal, but it might confuse somebody. Great video as always! :)
it says it
congratulations on 200000 subscribers!

Lots of fun!! Thank you!!
In Naruto they call them "'Senbon"" tho they are way smaller, and i think sharp at each end.
cody116261 historically they were made both ways now most people just call them throwing darts I have made some with large construction nails and a file they are very easy to make
is it 170 degree C before quenching? is that enough? thanks
Love the projekts anyone can do
Walter, why do you use a press as opposed to a power hammer?
Good power hammers are more expensive than presses...but putting that aside, my shop is in a residential area, and power hammers are really loud.
Also presses draw out material easier and is controlled better. Thick material press thin knife bevels etc power hammer. Walter was right power hammers are loud. Cheers - nyatiblades
what brand is your press?
i love to work with s5, i hate to heat treat it. lol
What no CNC lathe with active tooling. End up with a double taper.
Cool video though Walter!
teach us how to temper metal with oil
what's a good set of files to start with for knife making?
basically some like nichelson.. if u wanna go nuts: i bought mine which are extreme good quality from a german manufacture called dictum
my dad is saying i'll need these crazy expensive files because, I don't have any power tools except a hand drill.
I use Nicholsons. They work fine and hold up well.
got mine in a box at a garage sale, 5bucks, old ass shit, used badly in some cases but time + patience /elbow grease = pay off just got to get those hands dirty

where the denim shirt at?
Please correct that tap size to "FIVE sixteenths - eighteen". THREE sixteenths would be smaller than the 1/4" holes you drilled.
You could also get a few nails from the hardware store cut off the head and redo the point and there you go. But nice video.
I was curious because you said you can make with only a forge and anvil... the press threw me
Can Walter make these Sure-He-Can!
LOL!
I crack me up sometimes.
Daryl Hannah actually wears an eye patch because Master Pai Mei snatched her eye out for being disrespectful. However, I'll wear eye protection anyway. Great videos.
They are fun to throw.
Can he make a shuriken? Sure he can.
can you make a kunai??
sir you can harden a36 structual steel .
can you make it from 15 centimiter nail? let me kenw
If you are creative you could make one out of any appropriate size steel. BE CAREFUL IF ITS GALVANIZED. It will cause you to become sick as fuck if you breathe in the fumes when heated.
tnx
Wish I had tools to do this
tommy tran
Second dang, might have to try this Walter
sir you can harden a36 structual steel
Really? Wouldn't it be mild steel?
i just found a round melal from the wheel of a toy car and i hammered the metal to a sharp end and u rubbed it into concrete
great.
can he make it shuriken
Do you think Walter can pull it off?! SURE HE CAN! Hahahahaha
I didn't check the comments before I wrote that :(

i posted the exact definition from oxford dictionary www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/shuriken
that is only the shaken style the one Walter made is the bo style of shuriken there are other styles as well
Historically they where made of mild steel
You didn't make a shuriKEN, not shuriKAN, by the way. Small detail, but still. Back to the main point - you made Senbon. And honestly, those are VERY thick Senbon.
Hi
don't lose these ones in the leaves
can a ninja hit a target at long distances with this? shurican... ;)
U kiding umade a stick and sharpened it
for the connoisseur shank maker in prison.
sureecan
lol, a Jacob's chuck, on a mill
I dread the day your hammer slips and you touch that white hot steel
Ferguson Network it happend to me one time didnt even hurt it just burned the flesh a bit but it was good after two weeks
after I heat treat my steel I quench in BLOOD like a real MAN ! lol
Pai Mei gauged Elle Driver's eye out for insulting him. Just sayin...
It's a shame he can't see the white ninjas behind him in the intro/outro.
he does not need to worry their about to place an order
+ArvenRiderSolaris sir, you made my day!! Best comment i have come along yet :)
The way Elvis freed your body, Bob freed your mind. Bruce Springsteen. Never was a fan really
これを手裏剣といいます。
Can he make a Shuriken?
Sure he can.
Heh
手里剑。。

Is it just me or does somebody else also hear some annoying sounds on every Walters video?
Not very good!

OVERLOAD949494 yes it is.
OVERLOAD949494 yes they are those were the original shurikens back then
It's a Bo-Shuriken.
