The Boston high rise collapsed the same day I got out of the Army. Jan 25, 1971. I ETS'd at 10 am and this happened that afternoon. I could never forget that date.

One of the worst bridge disasters here in Sweden (I'm swedish) was the Tjörn bridge disaster. It was because a boat drove in to one of the bridge poles. It happend the 18th january 1980.

The high rise collapse reminds me a bit of Ronan Point in the UK

It looks remarkably similar. Ronan point was in May 1968 and I remember it very well.

son applied at MIT. had every qualification. 4.7gpa on a 4.0 scale. every teacher recommended him. professors there recommended him. made it through interview process great. but they needed other ethnicities. ??? WTF? ? merit means nothing these days.

5:43. IRONY. hes standing on a 1890s train bridge. solid 130 years later. discussing a bridge built 60 years later that lasted 20 years. Newer is not always better. build it to last. cost more now but less in the long run.

Very similar to a high rise collapse in Baileys Crossroads Virginia in 1978, I think. I was living in the area at the time and remember it happening. I think it was even covered on this channel.

No matter how many times I see that crane collapse, I can't tell how the operator got out. He must have teleported. Also - was the cladding that was involved with the terrible fire in Australia related to the cladding in the Grenfell Tower disaster in London? This program was made some years after the Grenfell Tower fire, but I didn't hear anything mentioned about it. I might have missed it, of course. My attention was taken away from the program now and then.

It looked to me a lot of professional people were involved in these mistakes, sometimes things don't go according to plan. “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” ― Robert Burns, To a Mouse.

44:38 I says that the counterbalance didn't look right to me b4 the crane fell. It seemed to me pretty obvious.

Not enough counter weight installed on the crawler crane...

    • @jessh5310
      @jessh5310 5 месяцев назад +2

Not quite. The operator did not move the hanging counterweight backwards before jibbing the load away from the crane. Easy to forget the first time but never again.

He should have cut the load loose. Still would have been a lot of damage but save the crane. With the load falling somewhat straight down the riggers would have a better escape routes by keeping the radius tighter. Crane good. Boom good. Rigging good. Wind/weather good. Operator took load out of the radius chart for how it was set up. Multiple crane operator errors here from start to finish. Maybe there is something not in the video but inexperience looks like the culprit. Does anyone know what the investigation came up with.

Maybe he's trained as a crane operator but how good is his physics basics e.g. centre of gravity.

I see cranes collapsing a lot. Like, isn’t that the point of having all the people involved be educated/trained in proper crane operation? Either the people being hired for the job are lying about their qualifications, or there’s a whole lot of rules and regulations being ignored.

Another blocked ad-block clip. I no longer have the freedom of choice what videos I watch without being forced to watch irrelevant content. There is no more freedom on the web. I will not be watching. This takes watchers away from your content. sorry.

I think your argument is better aimed at RUclips, Google and the parent company Alphabet
I agree with you wholeheartedly but it wasn't content providers that asked for the "skip" button removing
RUclips's attitude to advertising is that if you pay them a monthly fee they'll remove the adverts
Or watch for "free" and get bombarded with adverts
The saddest thing is Alphabet really don't care because it's pretty much PooTube or nothing 👍
