I think the problem with stoicism is that it is a band-aid, or in other words, it is the second step of the liberation process. Liberation from the injuries inflicted by others to you. The first step is grief, unadulterated, un-rationalized, un-excused grief, and anger. Victims of child abuse, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, all of the above abuse (as abuse predisposes to abuse) are victims. I can't take another guy that hasn't suffered sexual abuse telling me that victimhood is a state of mind. No, victimhood is when someone robs you of your body, of your identity, of your very concept of you as a person. And yes, only your own strength and agency and fight for your life will get you to become a full person. And not even that, cause sometimes luck is also necessary. I wouldn't have made it without luck that sometimes seemed like sent from heaven, and the luck I had to be able to listen, that no everyone has. And I only got better when I allowed myself to feel deep grief and raging anger towards those that had received my compassion and understanding since I was a kid, cause I saw they didn't know better than to abuse me. Thank God for my therapist that convinced me to let myself be angry. And yeah, after that, stoicism, maybe, we'll see. But I've read and heard way too much from typically straight white males that after some setback in their life that they overcame through getting their sh*t together (after reading some stoicism text) that there are no victims, and that all is solved by taking agency. No sir (I love this channel, and I believe that all that speak here are very well educated in what you are talking about, and I'm sure you have good and founded reasons for all you've said in the video. However, for some reason, I have never heard or read a perspective like the one I bring included in any conversation about stoicism)
