Deniz - Great content as usual. I think it is important to make the distinction that not all of these programs are equal. For example in the US, HBS/Wharton both have expensive formalized executive education options and then other cheaper credential options through edX/Coursera. Both offer brand name access, but not equal in terms of platform, program, networking, etc.

Very helpful video, thank you, I am aiming to work as a Supply Chain and Operations Manager, currently I'm a Floor Supervisor (supervising inbound, storage, and outbound operations). I have graduated with my Associates of Science in Economics and Bachelors of Science in Economics; this upcoming Spring 2024 semester I will be starting my MBA program and at 29 years old I am very focused on getting into that managerial position within the next 3 years. I appreciate your insights and thoughts on an MBAs worth - I believe to each their own when it comes to deciding the level of worth or amount of value the curriculum and degree will bring them - if it helps you get what you want or increases the chance of you getting what you want, then your efforts will pay off exponentially, this isn't a rule by any means, but typically with greater risk comes greater reward. Still to this day education is an excellent approach which has shown historical results for those who apply themselves after graduation. Approaching your future career or achieving your short- or long-term goals require consistent planning and execution.

Thank you Deniz. I agree with this assessment and it is a path that I am following.
In the age of modularisation, I feel it is no longer required to buy the whole package. Fit for purpose executive education is a really good alternative for fraction of the cost, and shows the potential employer that a candidate is committed to continuous improvement.
A finance professional might want to pursue the MIT Micromasters in Finance as opposed to a full MBA for example, in oder to elevate their profile and get MIT branding on the resume.

Glad to see you're back in YT!
Context - I already have an MBA from one of the best B-schools in my country and that helped me get a job abroad, where I currently work.

If not a brand name, my take is that the extra letters after your name might make you a little more attractive as a candidate, perhaps increase the chance you’d get the job over someone else without a masters. Perhaps this would not be worth the cost, if it only helps a small amount. Also, experience > degree(s).
Would you agree, or add your thoughts? Thank you for this content. It helps a great deal.

MBA programs are slowly getting less common. Yes, it is true that there was a time when it became very popular and lots of people were getting it. However, people slowly realizing that many online MBA programs don't do anything for them, essentially waste of time and money.

I wonder if the in-person MBAs/part time/executive MBAs might better a tad better than the online ones.

    • @DenizSasal

In terms of gaining credibility, probably better than an MBA if it's from a good school. But from learning perspective, almost any school's ability to keep up with the development of most fields is highly limited. They'll always be lagging behind, in most cases by many years.

If you have an undergraduate in business, a law degree would be a better choice than an MBA to work in business, especially a big bank!

Deniz - Where have you been?... I miss your videos. I'm your L.I.G. alum and couldn't agree more with this video. I have a PhD and just completed an online MBA (because I found one that was quite cheap) and I also did an exec certification from Stanford... My only remark is to be careful about going too deep in a technical expertise as this can backfire. I'm an expert in multicultural marketing and data analytics and it's quite easy to get stuck in low-level jobs without ever going up the ladder without a much needed generalist view. I'd also add that organizational political savviness is quite important, specially for those who don't come from a super wealthy family or well-connected backgrounds...

You can't learn all. Try to identify the ones relevant for your industry / job. Then prioritize by demand (e.g. analyze job description) or by market dominance.
