We did this same ride late this summer. I agree about the long day on the train, riding both ways. But one of the highlights was coming back into Durango, there was a campground on the right side of the train. There was a guy dressed up like cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation, bathrobe, boots, beer in his hand, holding the sewer hose! The lady in front of us said "what is that" obviously she never saw Christmas Vacation! I wasn't quick enough with my camera to catch a picture of him.
Incredibly long train ride? Try a 3=day cross-country train ride sometime!!!
Haha maybe that’s not the one for me, but I’m sure it’s an awesome experience!
