I personally am not attracted to the thin lauan-like boxes, but the interior components look great. At that price some thicker nice stained 1/4-sawn hickory, or even brown maple would look great. (More furniture looking). Thank you for the post. Love the channel.
Perfect presentation. Adjusting the speakers with potentiometers is the best thing to do depending on what type of music you listen to. There are no speakers for all types of music! My opinion after 40 years of listening...Potentiometers adjust the speakers according to the type of music. Yes, capacitors in oil are another clarification in sound reproduction, but I don't believe in their burning after the passage of time.....snake oil! You must notice the change immediately.
At least you know now, from your comparison, it’s probably about as good as it gets component wise. I felt compelled to comment as probably 40 odd years ago I decided to do some mods on my speakers. I decided to try a simple 1st order crossover using the existing air core inductor and got an oil and paper capacitor (surplus to requirements 🙂) from work. It did sound good and I suspected the oil and paper capacitor contributed to that, replacing a small plastic one. Maybe I was right after all.
Hi. Nice crossover. In my experience the paper in oil capacitors thake 6-700 houers to burn in/ open up. Before that it will be a rollercoaster. My favorite capacitors are the Jupiter copper foil paper wax and the Jupiter silver foil vitamin q oil, I use them everywhere speakers,preamps,dac... If I can recommend one thing in particular, it would be to swap the resistors for Path audio resistors. IMO the best crossover resistors on the planet.
Hi, I also use Jupiter copper foil paper wax everywhere. Have compared lots of capacitors, to me they are the best. Resistors, I use Allen Bradley carbon comp, outstanding! More dynamics and smoothness than Path Audio. otors,
. Non-mass marketed product reviews are great to see. Thanks Ana[dia]log👍 But holding my $3000 for 9 months for an invariable 2-way, in a homemade box with plastic knobs & no feet? It's an interesting video though. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass🔈🔉🔊
Forgot to mention that soon I will publish a crossover comparison video (with live captures): Original Altec vs eBay guy vs Pete's!
Pete Riggle VTAF made my Rega p-25 awesome. So glad he is still busy helping us get the most of our systems! Thanks for this!
Very excited by what I saw from Altec @ CAF!

Pete Riggle modified my RB250 Tonearm. Significant improvement.

Is there a link to the ebay crossover? Also, did you rewire your altecs?
Awesome for you. Could you make a video showing how they connect and how they function?
Great video, as always👍👍 Guido and when will you tell me about your reel-to-reel preamp?
Man you gotta try some super tweeters with your Altecs. I'm using Fostex T90a's with mine. Big improvment. The 802 and 811 fall off a cliff at 15k.
Does he do crossover for the 604e at 1500hz?
🤗👋GUIDO 💚💚💚
I would have used bees wax
it's called 'roll off'
. Wrong. It's called 'Flatbed'
