What a beautiful score by the great Alfred Newman-for one of the most underrated romantic comedies of the 1960’s!!! 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟TCM just played this screen gem!!!
An absolutely gorgeous score by Newman. The charming Hawaiian War Chant with its jazzy horns just runs away with a once favorite tune. What fun! Thanks Fred.
“The Pleasure Of His Company” (1961), starring Fred Astaire, Lilli Palmer, Debbie Reynolds, Gary Merrill and Tab Hunter is a charming and entertaining film about an absent and uninterested father (Astaire), who shows up at the wedding of his daughter (Reynolds) and from there on things go a little… unplanned, of course.
The film got splendid musical support by grandmaster Alfred Newman, who exploits his beloved jazz-roots, also adding a wonderful love theme to the all in all fine incidental music. Enjoy!

Hello, Fred! The great veteran Alfred Newman enters a new era, the 60s, softening the strong paints of the romance ( exacerbated in Victor Young), the musical ( from MGM's golden era ), and even a comedy, a certain type of comedy, investing in soft strings, delicate jazz, and playing with other genres, quotin ( with altered melody ), the " Treulich Gefuhrt " ( which we know as " Bridal Chorus _ Here Comes the Bride " ), an excerpt from the opera in three acts " Lohengrin "(1850, by Richard Wagner), and simulating " typical " Japanese music, among other references. Newman reaches the final decade of his career making a toast to the best that music can absorb and offer. Thanks and bye!!
