Great upload. This film took my breath away when I saw it the first time. Too bad about what they did to Pvt. Hook who by all accounts was an awesome soldier and an excellent man in real life. Colour Sgt. Bourne was a bad-ass in film and in life. Oh, and Barry's score was wonderful.
“Zulu” (1964) takes us to the Zulu-war the British army fought during the 1870’s, starring Michael Caine among others. With splendid actions and cinematography you can witness the madness of war… Giving the picture a tremendous compliment, is the pounding music of John Barry. Unfortunately Barry’s score saw only the light of an album-release (the film versions are still unreleased and probably lost). This album version contains about 18 minutes of score (the rest were pop-variations). However, this music got splendidly remastered by Quartet Records in 2021 and we take the chance to celebrate the movie’s 60th anniversary by taking a listen to it. Enjoy!
P.S. Originally we were going to upload a different video, however, it was taken down at the moment it was going to be released (very unusual, as it was uploaded already, waiting for its release without any problems), so fast Improvisations had to be made to get a video to you.
This is one of the most memorable adventure films of the 60s. Barry's score is a big highlight. It apparently was never released in 70mm in the US - but the stereophonic soundtrack remains on home theater versions.
I have this one, from a 1997 release on the British label " Fat Boy ". One of John Barry 's most vibrant works, at height of his career. With the basic arrangement " strings _ brass _ percussion ", he creates intense themes with a strong presence of double bass and melodic soundscapes with different types of timpani!! Truly, a John Barry from the good times! Thanks and bye!!
Thanks Fred ❤ Well done John Barry.👏🏻 Research: The fact is historical and the film reconstructs it with great resources. Cy Endfield directs, writes the screenplay (with John Prebble) and produces (together with Stanley Baker) the film. Baker receives a very serious wound in battle which then magically disappears as the story develops. The massacre of the British army, which occurred in the previous Battle of Isandlwana, is depicted in the 1979 film “Zulu Dawn”.
" ZULU " Is Also A Very Cool Movie With Incredible Battle Scenes , I Love Their Sergeant Major Issuing Orders And Maintaining His Cool Under Fire , Can't Say Enough About Michael Caine And Stanley Baker Incredible Performances As Well . I Have The Movie On DVD And I Have The Book " ZULU With Some Guts Behind It " The Making Of The Epic Movie by Sheldon Hall .
Still have and play a vinyl album of John Barry's movie themes from the 60's I picked up 50 years ago. Huge shout out for The Master & Vinyl, a sound CD's-Spotify can't touch.
Word from the lookouts mr chard sur. Color Sergeant, do you have a report to make? Yes, sur Mr.Bromhead, give it to me!! .....sur the lookouts reports Zulus in the hills around us.... hundreds of them
If this film ever gets re-released, they should put Sabaton's song, "Zulu" in the post-credits scene instead of The V.C. Roll and Men Of Harlech. It's a nice re-cap of the events depicted in the film.

It's a pity the battle area looks so different today, though.

Fantastic upload, the very best from John Barry, just superb.
God save the King, long live the Empire.
This brings me to that beautiful ending, maybe not historically accurate but beautiful nonetheless: "They're saluting fellow brave men".
Love it and the movie!
That’s raw!

I like how CSGT Bourne is like ummm ,Lieutenant Chard is my OIC but hey this officer shit is above my pay grade so they will have to get it together.

Oops! I meant to type "Rorke's Drift". That's the actual name.
Even though only a small part of the detachment was Welsh, is it possible everyone there knew the Men of Harlach song?
❤
JOHN BARRY S MUSIC WAS BETTER Than The FILM
