  • Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we need your partnership to keep our schools secure. FortifyFL is an online application that serves as a powerful tool that allows you to instantly report suspicious activity or threats, ensuring that the information gets to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials promptly.
However, it's essential to understand that submitting false tips on FortifyFL is not only reckless, but it also diverts critical resources away from real emergencies and carries serious legal consequences. Recently, students arrested for making school threats were charged with second-degree felonies, which are punishable under Florida law. This behavior is also a potential student code of conduct violation that can lead to disciplinary action, including suspension and expulsion.
It’s important to know the law and the consequences.
Bomb threats and false bomb reports are serious crimes. According to Sections 790.162 and 790.163 of the Florida Statutes, such actions are felony offenses that result in expulsion for at least one year and mandatory referral for prosecution.
Under Florida Statute 836.10, it is unlawful to make threats to kill, inflict bodily harm, conduct a mass shooting, or commit an act of terrorism. These offenses are classified as second-degree felonies, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Making false reports to law enforcement is also a crime. According to Florida Statute 837.05, knowingly providing false information about a crime is a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison.
FortifyFL is used by students to report suspicious or concerning behavior. Parents can use it as well. Submitting a tip is straightforward:
    Go to www.GetFortifyFL.com to start.
Step 1 - Find your child’s school by typing part or all of the name in the search bar, then click "next."
Step 2 - Provide details of the incident-describe it as thoroughly as possible-and submit your information.
Step 3 - Upload evidence such as photos or videos, if available. Click "next" if you don't have anything to upload.
Step 4 - Enter your contact information if you wish, or leave this section blank to remain anonymous. Rest assured, your identity will stay protected during the investigation.
Step 5 - Submit your tip. Your report will be reviewed and sent to both school administrators and local law enforcement, and every submission will be taken seriously.
Parents, please understand that all threats will be treated seriously and can lead to severe consequences, including arrest, expulsion, and restitution. Even if a child makes a false threat as a joke, the outcome can be life-altering.
We encourage you to have an open conversation with your child about the importance of safety and the serious consequences of making threats or false reports. By working together, we can ensure our schools remain safe and secure environments for learning.
Thank you for your continued support in this critical matter.
