1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Owner Richard chats with us about his Candy Apple Red 390 Big Block Mach 1 restored to Concours level standards. Rich really knows his details and shares his vast Mustang knowledge on the subject at the 50th Anniversary Mustang Celebration in Las Vegas April 17 to 20, 2014.
Oh my! In 79 one of my best friends bought that exact same model 69 mach 1 candy apple red. 390 hipo with headers ..the car came from a 1 owner with 12000 miles! Automatic ( sweet) i cant tell how many cruises i took with him in that car but every time he floored it at some point just for the sheer enjoyment of your head being thrown back as the front end rose up and the trees or feilds flew by !!!!! Man oh man
I own a 1969 428 Mach1 that I bought from the original owner in 1980. It is a California car with a C6 Automatic. It is equipped from the factory with the full smog set up. I doubt that they built the automatic trans 390 FE different than the 428 FE as far as smog eqip is concerned. All of them might not have gotten smog equipment, but I do not think that the Automatic trans was the determining factor. Wonderful car there!!
Unreal mach 1 , just absolutely gorgeous.
Spectacular! Now that is a serious Mach 1 ~ !
It is a nice Mach, drew a lot of attention
Finally the 390 mustangs are starting too get some recognition long over shadowed by the 428 cobra jets that are selling for ridiculous prices They were good performers and had great low end power .having owned a 1967 390 mustang coupe it was a real tire fryer and could break the right rear tire loose at about 30 mph with just a little tweaking off the distributor and carburetor they ran great .✌🏿
Favorite year Mustang!
'69 Mach 1's are hard to top.
wow just a great car , thanks for the video man you know these cars
Darrin, Thank you ! The gentleman who owns this car, Richard, is really a Mustang knowledge bank. Always cool to share info and cars. Hope your weekend is going great.
Way cool resto. There was a few of these in my area of Ohio back in the day, nice to see some one preserving them.
Thanks for checking it out, the owner Richard really knows his stuff.
Thanks for sharing. That's one awesome pony. I'm working on a 70, and hope to have her done before the summer is finished.
Thanks for checking it out. It would be great to see some pics or videos of your 70. Have you seen the 69 we are currently restoring? 52 videos so far and counting ruclips.net/p/PLc2o6ggB0wP2G5fKbBxWFqtpCFa8ZuDW3
I need to go to some West coast car shows! The cars over the are top notch!
Hey Rich. Great videos. Is candy apple red really that bright? Or does it look different on RUclips? My 69 is at the painter and he did a spray test card for me and it’s so dark unless you are in full sun. Is that normal. Will it look more bright in a large space. I’m panicked to let him spray entire car as I want it to look proper. I love exactly how it looks there and want it to be red not maroon. Any input I would really appreciate. Thank you.
That is Ford Candy Apple Red for 1969, paint code T if memory serves correctly . My very first car was a 69 Mach 1 in Candy Apple Red so I know the color well. The darker red that year is Royal Maroon and looks nothing like this......Good luck with your painter!
Looks like my brothers. Only exterior difference is my brothers had Magnum 500's. His has a Windsor though. A guy up the street has a 69' mach1 Wuthering the 390 and four speed. Definitely nice cars. This one is sharp!
This car looks just like my first Mach 1 too, except mine was a 351 4 barrel car. I really like Magnums on the early cars and especially the Mach's . You have to do an in car drive video with your brothers car.
They just out class Camaros
Too nice for me, I would want to drive it.
I know that the thing once they are done you wanna enjoy them. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Mom had a blue mach 1 with a 390 4speed. Dad got rid of it because he was afraid mom was gonna kill is in it.
I' ll bet, those things can get squirrely real quick with a stick shift.
@@MustangConnection1, I wasn't safe for a driver that wasn't used to that much power. I'm not necessarily a Ford guy but that was a nice car!
beauty but needs the front spoiler, rear spoiler n louvres...
He has it restored to as ordered. Most 69 Mach 1's were not ordered from the factory with rear louvers or rear wing. The front spoiler was a dealer add only for the Mach 1 in 69. Only the Boss 302 and Boss 429 came from the factory with a front spoiler. The do add a lot to the look for sure but in this case wouldn't be to his concours status for this car.

Nice Resto,I'm Interested in One in NE Part of Country that's Being Advertised as A Manual Disc Brake Car & No P.Steering.From All Info.I' very Been Able To Gather From Info.Videos, All Disc Brake S Codes Came W/ P.Disc. ,But Marti Rep.Says First Dealer it Went to Was In Canada,& May Have Been Spec.Ordered.Were Canadian Shipped Cars Able to Be Ordered W/ Out P.Discs.? Car Seems to Have Had Only 1 or 2 Owners & Is Pretty Pristine Cond.,Even Underneath Car,But 2 Underneath Pics Don't Show Much of Frt Suspension.,So it Can Be Determined if Really Discs.Guess Discs Could Have Been Added by Early Owners. Its A Pretty Basic S Code,W/ Only Options Showing of Magnum 500' S & B.Window Slats That Were Added by One of First Owners.
Hey Ed, In '69 the base Mach 1 was actually a 351W H code, with manual drum brakes, a 3 speed toploader and no power steering. I am sure you probably know that just a starting point though. Everything over and above that should be verifiable from the Marti report. Ford stop installing manual disc brakes by 1969, all of the Mustangs from then on were power assist when discs were ordered. Magnums would have been dealer or owner installed on '69 Mach 1s as you noted.
I need to go to some West coast car shows! The cars over the are top notch!
there are so many nice cars out this way and the 50th Anniversary really brought out some great stuff.
MustangConnection1 it doesn't leave the garage much anymore. I think he took it out one time last year. I'll at least get it backed out of the garage and have it running.
