    That is just fantastic. I play a regular bass but to hear the double bass breakdown gives me a better appreciation of the feel/groove of the song which helps me a lot. Also, I found some of the notes on the original hard to hear, probably because I’m not familiar with the double bass sound. Thanks for sharing!

      Really glad you found it useful Rob, thanks for commenting! What kind of bass do you play? I’ve got a 65’ Fender Mustang, I’m not the best on bass guitar, but it’s great to play.

      I play a Fender CB60SCE acoustic, a Peavey Milestone electric and Kala U-bass Spruce top. I use la Bella black nylon strings on the acoustic, La Bella 0760M flatwounds (Motown standards) on the electric and Road Toad Pahoehoe polyurethane strings on the U-bass. All of those strings are double bass emulators of sorts. The 0760 strings were used on most of the Mowtown classics.

    This was one of the first riffs I learnt when I got my bass but haven't played it for so long.
    I'm enjoying your content so much. I've just hit the subscribe button.
    I like to use my bow on my bass. Do you use a bow? I simply love the deep and rich sound. Though I play bass (as well as saxophone and clarinet) ultimately, I class myself as a drummer. I taught my son to play when he was 12 years old. For the past five years, he is the drummer in a band (Two Of Substance). They have played The Cavern in Liverpool amongst other venues. They have got their second album coming out next month. All their music is on youtube and Vevo.
    Although I taught him, he is streets ahead of me, so I look upon it as 'Well done Dad, the boy done good.'

      Such a great riff isn’t it! So glad you’re enjoying the content!
      I don’t really play bow, I can a little but it’s not at all my forte, I’m definitely a jazz and rockabilly bassist. I also play piano and oboe, they were my main instruments until I started playing bass 6 years ago.
      So great to hear about your son, how brilliant! And playing at The Cavern too, I bet that was an amazing experience. I’m going to head over and check out the band now!

    Learning so much in just a few lessons. Great teaching style, very patient. Just got my first DB but it's set up for jazz. Any tips on how to set it up for Rockabilly i.e. strings, pickup, action etc?

    • @BamboozleHQ
      @BamboozleHQ  2 года назад

      Hey Chuck, great to hear we’ve got another one to the clan! Set up is a bit personal preference, BUT, you need your strings high enough to just hook the pads of your fingers under (not the whole finger), many people start higher then lower it over time. Pick up I would 100% recommend the Shadow Rockabilly Pro and strings, most slap players prefer synthetic. I use Rotosounds, but Innovation Rockabilly Blacks or Reds are great, and lots of people also use Silverslaps too.
      Happy learning man and keep rockin’

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. I played the double bass back in the early 80’s at high school for about 5 years, sadly not since. Then about 6 months ago I started day dreaming about playing it again. I’ve just acquired a double bass again, it’s amazing hoy the muscle memory has the notes an rhythm, but lost the ability to read music. Love cats is the one song I wanted to pick up first - so a huge thank you this is great to get me restarted.
