    You are absolutely AMAZING!!! Another addition to your resume... You surprise your followers with each episode. The knowledge that you have is making us all very jealous.
    Plus teaching not to give into your fears.
    As always... Thank You!

      If my rational brain can convince my fearful brain that something is actually very safe, I can usually make myself do something. There are times though that I just say no thank you.

    I am FLOORED! …or, roofed, be it? I nearly forgot that it was through Caleb’s recommendation that I discovered YOUR channel! Talk about a well-deserved referral. I guess you could call this a collab…in a way. That would be cool to see in the American Home Restoration Universe like our European counterparts have done. But. Scheduling. Scheduling. These historic homes aren’t going to restore themselves, after all. Maybe a cool time-period style dinner and a tour of the locale. But a lot of the classic U.S. homes aren’t at that point yet. One joist at a time. Those Europeans are always two steps ahead!
    Speaking of work to be done, all that the Janie crew deal with would make for a great mock-reality show. But with a restorative twist. One unexpected and unwelcome complication after another. You know what. It’s going to make a FINE part of the continued history of this place years into the future. And on that note. This video has REALLY shown me just how wildly and audaciously complex the exterior of this house is. No wonder the likes of The Addams Family and The Haunted Mansion were inspired by places of this magnitude. So grand and complex and of another time and way of life and sensibility.

      My husband says I need a Go Pro on my head at all times. The really crazy stuff always gets missed. We could be a comedy show. We even find the bad stuff funny. We are about to do a big clean up in the house and reshoot the house tour. I realized that our original one was done when most of the windows were boarded up and there was no light. It really doesn't show off the house. I can't wait until we can host a fancy party here and really showcase the beauty of this house.

    How discouraging! Yet, you are still finding things to do, and are still so optimistic . That shows your true character. One day, it will be all completed! And it will be because of you, volunteers and people that donate to this beautiful house.

      I feel a little guilty being upset at the rain since last year was a scorching drought and was totally unbearable here in July and August. At least this year, the yard is lush and green. We are so grateful for our volunteers and for everyone who has donated to this effort. Real progress has been made and we hope to see much more change next year.

    Yes I came over after the shout out. You need eyes in the back of your head using the lifts, I can understand why you couldn't film too. Next time get a little bucket (plastic tube) on a string you can lower, add item's as needed (or dropped) then just pull them up. Hope the weather plays ball soon. Great update 2x👍

    • @leaguekempnerhouse
      @leaguekempnerhouse  3 месяца назад

      The weather is not our friend. We found another trick besides a bucket on a string, opening a window on the third floor and having someone hand you the things you need. It took an embarrassingly long time to figure that out.

    I sure wish I had met you when I visited and toured the house. I also wish I could remember the name of the lady who went with me and gave me the tour. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about you!! I was in Galveston for the 50th anniversary of historic Galveston home tours in May...and included the League-Kempner too thanks to...said lady!! Small world! I also went to visit Kaleb at the Second Empire Strikes Back ....Brown house back in 2022. Totally enjoyed my visit. I'm sure you must also know of Eric LaVelle too (what an incredible woodworker!!). Always enjoy your posts...Thanks for all the wonderful work you have done, and continue to do!!!

    Hi, Janie, I had told you we were traveling north and east this summer. We made it to Iron Mountain, MI headed to Drummond Island for 3 months. On the way back to Phoenix we were going to stop in Tyler and Galveston. I was so happy to get to see the League-Kempner House in person and to meet you! On 5 July we got a call that our house had flooded. It was from a water pressure surge that blew a water inlet line in a bathroom. Suffice to say we headed home immediately. Our home is gutted and being treated for asbestos and black mold. I'm so sad that our vacation was cut short and we have to deal with all this. I'm hoping we'll eventually make it to Galveston. I've learned from you to suck it up and deal with these setbacks as they happen and not look back. Thank you for the education and insight on how to deal with this. Love and hugs from sunny Arizona 💖😎💖 🥵

      Oh no. I am so sorry to hear about the water damage at your house. I'm glad it happened near the end of your trip so you could enjoy your time at iron Mountain. Having to gut and redo our home after Hurricane Harvey, I feel your pain. It takes a long time to recover, but you will. I am sorry we couldn't meet in person. I would have loved to have given you the deluxe tour of the house. The good news is that it will be here for years to come for when you do get back this way.

    The roof is cursed.

  • @scottie196624
    @scottie196624 3 месяца назад +1

    I'm frustrated for you with this roof project. I realize money is very tight, and your non profit, and you can do some of the work yourself, but maybe it's time to bite the bullet, hire real professionals, with real equipment, and just get the job done. No, you can't control the weather, but so many projects are going on, and nothing is getting completed, and it's just problem after problem. Hire out the big jobs professionally, and concentrate on the small jobs you can handle.
    You're doing a great job, but you're going to wear yourself out...only my opinion, keep up the great work, I wish you well

    • @leaguekempnerhouse
      @leaguekempnerhouse  3 месяца назад +2

      It is frustrating to plan for so long for something to happen and then have it delayed, but most of the roof delays were caused by weather that we have no control over. We have hired out all of the big jobs that require skilled craftsmen, such as the plumbing, electrical, masonry, skilled carpentry, etc. However, money is the limiting factor. There is only so much and unless we get additional grants, our work pace has to match our fundraising efforts, so in effect, there is no "bullet" to bite. We can't spend what we don't have. The nice thing about being a nonprofit is that we don't have any hard deadlines, just self-imposed ones. We do what we can and have actually made remarkable progress given our constraints. I really appreciate your concern but please know that I get lots of rest, I just don't film the days I spend laying on the couch or sitting home doing paperwork in the air-conditioning. I actually love the physical work and call it my weird hobby. Supporting us here on RUclips helps us fund our work so thanks for taking your time to watch and comment. It helps the RUclips algorithm push us out to new viewers.
