I'm thinking he's very fortunate he did not develop carpel tunnel syndrome or arthritis. Common for drummers/ percussionists. This sent keyboardist Keith Emerson into despair and he wasn't even a drummer.
No kidding! I've heard it said that during the final tours, like R40, Neil suffered from arthritis in his shoulders. We would never know it given his unrelenting professionalism. After 2 neck surgeries, I have arthritis in my neck and live in constant pain. This is why I'm extremely fortunate to have a highly trained skill set in video production. Even my part-time work as a server at a steakhouse is becoming unsustainable and leaves me broken after each shift. The support from our Rush Family has allowed me to begin; it's in its infancy, but it will eventually help support my family in doing creative work fit for being legally disabled as I am. LoL! Apologies for the life story. In all seriousness, I want everyone to know that only we can put limits on ourselves. Yes, life, or genetics, can literally leave you with a broken neck and heart, as it did me. What truly matters is rising from the ashes of misfortune to blaze an everyday glory. Hard work, perseverance, and constantly pursuing excellence. These are some of the pillars on which a happy and successful life can be built. Thanks for being here, eric
I miss the professor. I still remember that Friday that I heard the news. My 14 yo dog's health had deteriorated. I had scheduled him to be put down on Saturday and as I'm leaving work, I hear on the radio, "breaking news, Neil Peart of the band Rush has died". I was completely shocked. What a horrible weekend! I continue to read Neil's writings and listen to his music. God bless you , sir.
Your story mirrors my own. I heard the news, was in shock, had to verify, became sad, wept, and had a horrible six months without music. Yeah, it hit me hard, losing Neil like we did. Thank you for reaching out, please stay in touch. May God bless you as well. Take care my friend, Eric
Dear Rush Family, Thank you for your continued outpouring of interest and support. On January 6, one of our Rush Family members reminded me that January 7th was the 5th anniversary of the day we lost Neil Peart. Totally unrelated, I recently shared two new Neil Peart videos, but these were not enough to honor The Professor. Generally, I'd rather forget the darkest days of my life. One of these is the day that our Professor passed on from this terrestrial plane. Given all of this, I was instantly inspired to create a tribute to Neil Peart. I wanted to celebrate the drummer, the writer, the mind, and the life of a man who meant a lot to many of us for decades. It was my honor to create this, but as usual, your comments give life to this video. Since the beginning of The Loudboy Experience one year ago, I've aimed to reply to every one of your comments. No matter how large our Rush Family grows, no matter how many comments you send, I will continue to personally write you back every time. I've enjoyed our conversations, and "meeting you" has brought countless smiles to my face. Soon, we'll be live streaming a NEW RUSH show, and I hope that we can regularly gather together in real-time. Suffice it to FINALLY say, I'll respond to you soon. Thank you for watching. Thank you for this. Brings a tear. I'm 61 now, my first album was Hemispheres. The chemistry of Rush members was remarkable. Because of Rush, I explored blacksmithing, chemistry, poetry, literature, learned three languages, learned about electrochemistry, history (first exposure to rivers under the Sahara), European politics and business. Can't bang a drum if my life depended on it though! What blows me away at this point in my life is how prophetic Neal Peart's musings were in song.
@robharrop8929 Wow! You sharing how Rush inspired you, inspires me. You get it! There's a lot of us around the world who understand, but still, we're the chosen few. Please keep in touch and when I start live streaming, I'd love for you to be part of our conversation. Take care my friend, Eric
@@TheLoudboyExperience Thank you, I am still in the dark ages with tech...pure desktop. I never really got poetry until Peart's line in "Cold Fire": "Full moon rising lays silver at your feet." Epic line and one of many nuggets his writings. RIP Neal.
You're right. Our Rush Family has been deeply affected and fundamentally altered by losing Neil Peart. You are very welcome. Creating these videos is an honor. Having you guys along for this journey, as we remember Neil & Rush is priceless. Thank you! I felt a huge shadow cross my heart. I have always said - I have always said: "If just one of these guys - just one; it didn't matter which one - was no longer in this band. It would no longer be RUSH." Every true RUSH fan still grieves for Neil. Thank you Alex and Geddy for all the music, all the memories over the years. You could have never have done it without Neil Peart - and visa-versa 😊 God bless you and your families - your extended 'global' family loves you very - very much. "Long live RUSH! May their music forever echo into eternity!"
@@TheLoudboyExperience Thanks Eric. I will never forget the interview with Geddy as they were scheduled to play in Rio - which was arguably their greatest live performance ever - he said: "We didn't even know if anyone in Brazil had ever heard of us." The reception they got in Brazil should make their fans across the globe hang their head in shame. Still brings tears to my eyes. What a band - what a loss with Neil. Thank you for your reply and your post. God bless you my friend - Long live RUSH 🤘😊🤘
@dancampbell9151 I know! A humble remark followed by teaming masses singing in unison to YYZ! This is talked about in the Geddy Tribute on this channel. In one of the clips I included, a reporter asked why Rush had not come to Brazil yet, and Geddy replied, because we're dumb. Thanks again, Eric Geddy Lee - A Tribute to the Maestro of Rush ruclips.net/video/68siaWyBzWo/видео.html
@@TheLoudboyExperience To be honest - I was only seconds into this video and already knew where it was going to end up when I posted my reply. This band touched a chord in the heart - "Closer to the Heart" - to all of their fans who immediately connected with them. That was never lost on them - and their fans always knew that it did not. It was reciprocal and synopsis. It just was. There are not many bands who enjoy such a relationship with their fans like RUSH enjoyed - but it was always mutual - always. It wasn't just the music - which was always phenomenal; it was also about these three humble boys from Canada. So much they have all shared with us in all of our lives. It was great to have them as part of our lives as well and why we love them so much. Thanks again - God bless!
We lost Neil Peart on January 7th 2020 to brain cancer! Geddy Lee called him: THE PROFESSOR because he had a verbal and musical vocabulary that I would put against anyone including Beethoven and Albert Einstein all this from a guy who didn’t graduate high school! Not only was he the drummer-percussionist of RUSH but he also wrote the Lyrics! RIP PROFESSOR
Thank you Gary. I gave you a shout out in my latest video: Rush Family FACE UP, New Rush Backstage Club Gear, & Cape Cod Christmas ruclips.net/video/6UlCEThE7ao/видео.html
I know, and as we get older, time goes by even faster. Not really, but it feels that way while we're stuck in this temporal realm. Thanks for writing bud, Eric
I'm in my 60's. I've played in band's since high school. My buddy Dave was playing drums in high school and we have played in the same bands together over the years. His hero is Neil and he says had it not been for Neil and Rush he would have never picked up a drum stick. He used to practice for hours. Other local guys credit Dave to teaching them things on the drums because he is a good drummer. He owes it all to Neil. Neil raised the bar for rock drummers. His precision makes the drum mesmerizing. What a legend.
Hello there! It's great to hear from you. Thank you for sharing you and your friend's story with us. We're molded by and made up from our collected memories. When we share them, week keep them alive and share the essence of our souls. Like you, I've played in school bands since I was in 3rd grade, learning to play drums in a rural Vermont town in the middle of nowhere. I consistently played percussion, as well as singing in numerous school and private choral groups. Everything changed in 8th grade, when an older kid from Texas moved to town. We knew each other from church, but we were united by drums. Billy was his name, and he was a monster musician and drummer in high school. He brought me under his wing, teaching me volumes about music, and showing me how to play a drum set for the first time. One day he drove me from school back to his house to practice, and I soon found out what music he was always playing in his Nissan pickup. I opened up a large cassette storage box and it was filled with RUSH! That day, EVERYTHING changed. It wasn't long before I got my own Rush tape was delivered from Columbia House. The tape was 2112. I remember where I was when I played the title piece on my dad's stereo. My mind was blown! All top 40 pop music went in the trash that day, and I became a Rush fan for life. The year was 1987 or 1998. I was 14 and forever would Rush be my #1 favourite band. The Show of Hands drum solo, Neil Peart's "The Rhythm Method" changed my perception of what was possible in drumming and music. Billy could play that solo and performed it in the middle of one of our Jazz Ensemble numbers. How fitting, given Neil's famous admiration of Buddy Rich. Goodness, I could go on for hours. If your still reading, thank you. I'll wrap up this novelization of my life now. :-) I'm very glad you wrote. Our Rush Family is bigger and better with you here. 54 year old Rush air, and steering wheel, drummer here. Bought a drum set 3 years ago thinking I knew every beat, every strike... I'm going to be Neil. Never been more disappointed in my life. But I'm getting better.
Good for you! 🙂 I want to return to proper drumming again. I've been pounding at my steering wheel for decades, but I want a drum set. Keep it up. Neil & Rush taught us that hard work and striving for excellence is the best way to live. Take care, my friend, Eric
Sad day, brought a tear to my eye. Im a self taught drummer who can't read a note of music. Im 57, back in the 90's I played in a fairly popular, local bar band. Neil had a HUGE influence on how I played. Could I play him, F, no. But there was always more to learn. He was a fountain of knowledge. Drumming aside, he was an intelligent person. Learned, thoughtful, introspective, a genius on a geek level. LOVED all five shows I got to see. Starting with Hold Your Fire.. May you be with the ones that left before you Sir!! And simply thank you for being you. God bless!
Hey man, well said and my sentiments exactly...I'm a self-taught 55 yr old drummer who can't read music...learned by playing to songs on radio/CD's/cassettes with headphones. Developed into 400+ gigs since I was 19/20. Still gigging 6-8x/yr now but thankfully get compensated well for my efforts (took a lone time for that!). I had to pull off highway when I heard the news. Called my wife and cried like I lost a best friend or brother. Never expected to be affected that strongly. Guess is was the shock of hearing it. Saw Rush 14X starting with GUP tour. Every tour til the end. By far my favorite band since I was 13 yrs old. Peace, Webb in ATL
Beautifully said. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your thoughts reflect my experiences, as I'm sure they speak for many of us. I dig your channel, Scott. I'm a huge YES fan as well. I want to talk about YES and other prog rock groups, in video and on the upcoming livestreams I'll be hosting soon. It would be great to have you be part of our continued conversations. Stay tuned, and keep in touch. Eric
Hello Webb, Webb is my grandmother's maiden name. Okay, I've digressed already. It's fantastic to have you here! After reading Scott and your comments, I called out to my wife, who's currently in the kitchen behind me, making her awesome chili, and I said, "Man, these guys are amazing!" And you guys are! I'll say it again, I make these videos, but you guys bring life to them! Thank you for your stories, experiences, and valuable expertise. When I start livestreaming, you will be a great asset to our real time conversations. Thank you, my friend, Eric PS: One of these days, I'm going to get back to proper drumming. I'm going to get a set of my own. It's been many years, but I look forward to hitting drums with sticks, instead of my steering wheel.
You're right Alan. Are you from Florida? I hope is to move there as soon as possible. Yes, Neil has left his mark on us and we're better for it. Stay in touch bud, Eric
@TheLoudboyExperience I'm originally from the Lower Hudson Valley of NY. I moved to Florida in November 2021 after doing my 1st 52 years there. I saw RUSH a dozen times since 1987. I was lucky to see them back at their 1st Vapor Trails show in Hartford,, CT after the hiatus. I met Geddy in NJ at his My Favorite Headache signing in 2000. Once again some years ago at his Big Book of Bass signing also in NJ.
The best Neil Peart tribute I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched it three times now. Thank you so much for making this and sharing it with all of us RUSH fans! God bless you! The Professor will be forever missed!
I've been following the wildfires in California. I know that Neil, Carrie, and Olivia lived there. If Carrie and Olivia still live there, I hope that they are safe from danger. My prayers are with them, their neighbors, and the firefighters.
"The arrow flies when you dream The hours tick away, the cells tick away The watchmaker keeps to his schemes The hours tick away, they tick away" Rest in Peace Professor
The day we lost Neil was devastating indeed. I like your perspective of Neil being an older brother figure. I understand this completely because I've often said Neil was a father figure to me. He's my Dad's age and has been a similar role model. My Dad and Neil are geniuses (my diagnosis), both capable of a wide array of artistic endeavors, and are relentless in their pursuit of creative excellence. I'll play catch-up with Neil and my dad for the rest of my life. 🙂 Thanks again bud. I look forward to hearing from you in the future. eric
What a day. I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when my phone started pinging with notifications of his passing. We all thought it was just another crazy RUSH rumor at first. I’m still wishing that it wasn’t true. Not for the RUSH family but for Carrie and Olivia and his sisters and brother. 💜
I'm there with you! My wife first told me, and I couldn't believe it either. I raced to the permanent link to the Rush site on my phone and I realized it was real. Suddenly he was gone. January 7, 2020, was a dark day. I broke down at one point and wept. I snapped at my son, screaming at him for nothing. Of course, I later profusely apologized to the little guy, but I was emotionally destroyed. I didn't listen to ANY music for at least six months that year. I'm thankful that time does heal some wounds, gives us perspective, and allows us to process. However, losing Neil still hurts, and to this day, I often get emotional when I listen to Rush music. With some songs, the ones where Neil's written beautiful, powerful prose, I think, it's over, we'll never again get lyrics and music like this. Rush is over. YES, Rush lives on. We have a lifetime of music, images, and words to enjoy for the rest of our days. Rush lives on in the very moment, as I respond to another great note from you. Thank you for being part of our Rush Family, please stay in touch. Eric
I've spoken of, and directly to Carrie and Olivia in my videos. They have been on my mind since we lost Neil. Moreover, with the wildfires in California, I hope that they are safe, and I hope that their house isn't destroyed like so many others. Please keep Carrie, Olivia, their neighbors, and the firefighters in your prayers. Take care, Eric
Thank you. This felt like treasure hunting. Finding video spanning the career of Rush and Neil Peart is like Indiana Jones grabbing the golden idol in the opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Okay, that's not the best metaphor, but I hope you get my meaning. Getting to combine my love of Rush with my particular set of skills in video production is a dream come true. Thank you for being here, stay in touch. I'm shooting a new video soon, and you're on my list for a shout out. Thanks bud, Eric
To the guys involved in the creation of this tribute i want to say thank you so much…. January 7 is a day that is for me bittersweet…. the happy day my beautiful daughter was born…. Is the day my favourite drummer died…. So after the fun of her birthday when she’s gone finally to bed… I always take some alone time in the dark listening to rush songs…watching his solos…and finding snippets of Neil on you tube imparting his timeless words of wisdom…. And I will do this for the rest of my life… Love you Neil …❤️🙏❤️x
Thank you for this touching note. The birth of our children is a blessing that only parents can understand. I have three sons, but my world was rocked when my daughter was born! To this day she blows my mind with her intelligence, humor, compassion, empathy, and yes, she's knockout beautiful as well. I feel you understand what I'm talking about. After Neil passed on, I was in a funk for over six months, and I couldn't listen to any music whatsoever. After all of those months, listening to Rush music was still difficult. Like you, I listen to Rush alone, in a darkened room, but now you said it, there's a bittersweet element to each song. I am thrilled that you're here. Your feedback and comments encourage me and give my work meaning and purpose. Thank you, and please stay in touch. Eric The latest Rush Video: ruclips.net/video/6UlCEThE7ao/видео.html
Hola! You're welcome. It's my great honor to edit this video compilation. None of this would be possible without decades of outstanding music and videos by Rush, and your interest and input. I miss Neil too. Music is timeless, and the gift from Rush can not be repaid. Thank you for being here, eric
For my friends and me, he was our defacto musical/spiritual dad. I learned how to read drum charts by following along to their tunes. I miss you dude, and I'm tired of a world without you. RIP ❤🥁
Sigh. You're right. Our world without Neil Peart, and Rush isn't the same. I get emotional when I listen to Rush now because it's over, Neil has passed on, and Rush is no more. There will never be another Rush song, album, or concert. One of a kind, they were. Thank you for sharing this. Eric
The Carress of Steel album got me into Rush when it came out as a teen. I'd just bought a new Pioneer Stereo system that I saved up for and a friend of mine brought the album over. He was a drummer in high school and said, " you have to listen to this drummer and the band". We did and blasted it. Till this day I still have that album that Mike left at my house. Couple days later he was in an accident. Went to many Rush concerts after that including their last 40 tour. RIP Mike my old friend and RIP Neal.
😢 I'm sorry to hear about Mike. Thank you for sharing this personal memory with us. May your friend rest in peace. I'm glad you're part of our Rush Family. eric
I miss Neil Peart!! One of the best things I loved about him, besides his gift to music, is that he went back and relearned how to lay drums differently. So much respect 🙏🙏🙌🙌 RIP Neil Peart- The Professor
I remember where I was and the shock I felt when we heard Neil had passed. My first LP, I ever purchased was Rush's Eponymous album. I have been a fan ever since. This is a great tribute to the Professor, I listen to the band at least once a week until I am no more!
I first heard Rush when I was 12 y/o and my older brother Doug brought home ATWAS in 1978. Been a fan and a drummer ever since! Thank you, Neil. Thank you.
You got me smiling with your story. I was 14, and my older drummer friend Billy introduced me to Rush. The day I played MY FIRST Rush tape in my Dad's Sanyo stereo, 2112 changed the rest of my life! My Rush story begins 10 years after yours, in 1988, but I think I know exactly how you felt back then. It's wonderful hearing from you, please keep in touch my friend. eric Geddy Lee - A Tribute to the Maestro of Rush ruclips.net/video/68siaWyBzWo/видео.html
I remember the first Rush experience. I was an 11 year old sax player in school. My friend was a drummer. He asked me who I thought the best drummer was. Naturally, I said John Bonham. He smiled and popped in La Villa Strangiato. My life changed forever. I soon switched to the guitar. Just after hearing Strangiato, he put in their latest cassette. Grace Under Pressure. Die hard Rush fan ever since. I consider myself fortunate to have seen them 3 times. Once on the Presto tour, then on the Roll the Bones tour and finally, Snakes and Arrows. What an incredible band with an amazing discography. From being called Led Zeppelin to the down the tubes tour to the top of the world. There will never be another. Rest easy Professor. We love you. We miss you. We'll see you when we get there.
Sax player, guitar player, and Rush fan?! 2112 was my life changer and Neil's Rhythm Method solo blew my mind. He sure made his mark on this world. I met him in Daytona Florida at a little hotel that I was working during bike week. We were washing our motorcycles together. He was getting ready to go for a ride out to the flea Markets with Geddy Lee. I had a conversation with Geddy under the arbor at this little hotel as well. They were both very down to earth and really cool people. I so wanted to tell them both, that Rush was my very first REAL LIVE CONCERT at Alpine Valley, "Moving Pictures" but they may have gotten nervous that someone actually knew who they were. Anyway, I was the tall lady with long brown hair. Just wanted to give my respect to one of the GREATEST DRUMMERS of Our Time and to Geddy with the vocals like no other. Thank you for the music and memories too!!! Bravo Neil Pert, fly high!

Suddenly - You were gone From all the lives You left your mark upon I remember - How we talked and drank Into the misty dawn - I hear the voices We ran by the water On the wet summer lawn - I see the foot prints I remember - - I feel the way you would - I feel the way you would Tried to believe But you know it’s no good This is something That just can’t be understood I remember - The shouts of joy Skiing fast through the woods - I hear the echoes I learned your love for life I feel the way that you would - I feel your presence I remember - I feel the way you would This just can’t be understood…
Neil isn't truly gone. Millions of us absolutely can't stop thinking about him, talking about him, and saying his name... I'm not sure if immorality is humanly possible, but whatever Neil has achieved sure seems like at least a of version of immortality.
Thanks for sharing such a great doc/rememberance to Neil. I've been a fan since the very beginning and lived and worked near Hagersville where Neil first lived. A very good friend of mine was actually Neil's cousin and schooled me on the correct pronunciation of Peart when we first met. Always laugh when people still mispronounce it. Seen them live many times and even got to take my daughter to some shows on their last 2 tours. Neil you are sadly missed but absolutely never forgotten, RUSH is the best band ever!!!
Thank you, Scott, for your kind words and for sharing these fantastic memories with us. In an era when everyone wanted to "be like Mike (Jordan)", I wanted to be like Neil. I was 14 in my first band playing the drums. 1986. I only knew Neil as the drummer. Many years later and you start to learn more about Neil as the artist, the philisophe, the craftsman, the architect, the drive, the intellect, etc. People like Neil don't come around very often. I'm so thankful he did. And I'm so thankful of what I learned from him (and am still learning!). I truly and honestly think he was forged from the gods atop Olympus. Thank you, Neil. Thank you. RIP...Rock in Peace, Professor.
Beautifully said. Thank you. I'm still learning from our mentor, Neil. Once in a lifetime, and thankfully, we were there with him during his fantastic journey through time and space. Rest in Peace Professor Peart
@TheLoudboyExperience More than anything, he never stopped being a student. Always searching. Always learning. Always striving. (I sound like a Star Trek trailer, which is somehow appropriate.) Eerily, it's as if he knew his life would be cut short. Carpé diem. I now wake up each morning and ask myself, "What's the most amazing awesome thing I can do today." I can't say it enough, thank you, Professor.
Rush are the miracle of my musical life! Saw them play in upstate NY as a 15 yo kid.... saw them in Orange County SoCal in the front row in my 20''s (Irvine)...and somehow, I was at the last show at the Forum in Los Angeles. Thank you Professor. Thank you Alex!! Thank you, Geddy!! THANK YOU!!!
Wow, what a story. So many great memories and Rush experiences you've had! Miracle does say it best. I can remember driving home listening to The Garden tears streaming down my eyes I tried to sing the part about dreams disappearing into memories and was sobbing, the whole thing of the person whose lyrics contributed to the soundtrack of my life being forever silenced was strange to contemplate. Luckily we have the great body of work to look back on and listen to and be thankful we were around to experience it
I've been there, more than once. Miraculously, The Garden is the final song on the final album by Rush. The lyrics of The Garden are Neil's final recorded words. I've cried every time I've listened to this since he passed away. You're right though, the lifetime of music and lyrics we've been given will be with us for the rest of our days. Just wow. The power. Power in so many ways. But here’s what hit me- I was just looking for something to watch/listen to while I worked. An hour into the video, I’m very depressed, and tears welling up. And then it hit me all over again. Neil was gone and today was the 4th anniversary. It never crossed my mind today. I stopped watching and went for a walk to clear my head, and when I got home poured a scotch glass with Macallan. Thanks professor, here’s to you! May you rest in peace.
John, thank you for sharing this personal experience with us. I know how you feel. I have to switch to robo-mode to create these videos. I have to shut down all emotion and think only about the task at hand, whether it's talking to a camera, or editing on my Avid. I get tear up often when listening to Rush during the past five years. Loved the " I know more than you" reference in the beginning 😂 Thanks for the video I'm a big fan but I don't always have time to dig and find every little piece and there's much here I've never seen before.
THANK YOU! May I call you Elly & Kat? Or something else? Either way, thank you very much for your Super Thanks and support. I'm shooting a new video soon, and I'll be mentioning you, giving the shout-out, if you will. One day, I was inspired by that iconic Ron Swanson scene, thinking that's us! That's how we feel about Rush and everyone else who doesn't know Rush. Also, in one of The Loudboy Experience shows, I've used this line to describe myself and technology, computer systems, and video production. When I'm in a Best Buy, or once upon a time, a Circuit City, I would feel that way when a salesperson came up to "help" explain the latest technology in TVs and stereo components. "I know more than you" crossed my mind. I'm glad you're here, please stay in touch, Eric
What a legend. It now seems ironic how the introvert had more to "say" through lyrics, performances, and writing than anyone else. Through those mediums he's still "talking" and I'm still listening. His impact was, and still is, tremendous. Long live the King.
YES! That is exactly right. Neil shared more about his life through his music, lyrics, books, blogs, stories, and interviews than most people will for a lifetime. Amen, long live King Peart Thank you, Mark, Eric The Wisdom of Neil Peart - Bubba and The Professor: ruclips.net/video/mtg3iH3GlwY/видео.html How do Rush Lyrics apply to modern life? My first son was at a Rush Concert, still in my wife's belly. He was kicking like a beast in her belly! Ironically, my same son saw the last tour of Rush before Peart's death.
Now that's a great story. You should be proud. Being a dad is one of the most important things we can do in life. Raising our kids to know Rush is priceless. ;-) I played Rush on my wife's belly for our kids. They say classical music helps intelligence, how much more could Rush help them develop before birth?! When my Mom was pregnant with me in college music class. Whenever music played, I was bopping around and drumming in her tummy. There's much to be said about the power of music in forming us as people, even before birth. Thanks for being here! Eric
Neil died 6 days after my father and I remember immersing myself in his solos and music with rush, I also picked up his book Ghost Rider. I wasn't a big reader, but it resonated with me in a big way. 100% helped me deal with the loss of Pop even though I didn't realize it at the time. Thank you Neil.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry about your father. I've read Ghost Rider a couple times. It's a tough read, but worth it. When we turn the page to the final chapter, Neil has found Carrie and hope and love; I rejoiced with Neil. We walk through the darkness at different points in our lives. How we persevere and we hold on; that is what matters in the end. Thanks again, eric
Thanks for posting this wonderful tribute to the professor! For those who have not read any of Neil’s books, I urge you to do so, as they are truly fantastic. How I miss Neil’s art!😢
Yes I’ve read them all just have Clockwork Destiny left. I’m kind of saving it, because there’s nothing after that, guess I’ll have to reread some of them
@@GEDDY37We’re on the same wavelength. I too have read them all, with only clockwork remaining, which I place in a different category.. it will be a very sad day when I turn that last page.
You're welcome. It's my pleasure and honor to pay tribute to the man & band who gave us so much. I've read most of his books, and like you and Geddy37, I haven't yet gotten to Clockwork Lives & Clockwork Destiny. I have read Clockwork Angels twice, and I highly recommend listening to the audio book read by Neil himself. Thanks Ron, Eric
Amazing document here. Just a collector item about his life. Miss him, miss the band. Forever in my heart and beside my family and best friends, there was and still is Rush. I need all of them!!!
Damn.. this was so awesome and so very sad to me at the same time. I loved Rush as did millions of others. They brought us music like no other could and never will! I saw Rush back in the 80's at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. They called it 'Rushes First Rock Out' because it was the first concert at the newly built arena. They pretty much blew the roof off the place! I'll never forget that show! Thank you for putting this incredible show of Neil. Rest easy brother. ✌
I know it's not easy to look back and remember Neil, as his loss is still fresh in our hearts and minds. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories with us. Together, we can keep Rush and Neil Peart alive. I had not heard about Rushes Frist Rock Out, it's great that you got to see this! Neal wasn't given God blessed talent, he practiced everyday and that is what impressed me the most. He's drum solo kept getting better over the decades. People he was a special fellow. God bless!
Might it be both? Can we possess innate talents, and when given enough time and practice these can become exceptional abilities? Thanks again for sharing, eric
Have only shed tears over a couple musicians when they passed and obviously Neil was one of them and I sure miss listening to him speak and certainly play.
I'm there with you. After the brief denial, and a period of shock, the day I found out that we lost Neil was dark and sad. I broke down and cried. I couldn't listen to any music for six months. Today I often get emotional listening to Rush. I'm forced to acknowledge that Neil has passed away and rush is no more. As I listen to some of my favorites, tears run down my face. I'm both happy and sad at the same time. I hear you bud, I feel the way you do. Thank you very much for watching and reaching out. As a drummer in Niagara I had the good luck of sharing many a night in church halls playing the same nights with Neil ! He describes the 1960's early days of playing drums in a band to perfection ! I would watch him off stage and even back then was a cut above and way past the surf sound of drumming ! Like him my fav drummer was MOON who we both tried to emulate ! What a joy it was .. I will NEVER forget a off day we spent swimming at dufferin islands in Niagara when he said to me " YOU and I should have a Drum battle" in the next many battle of the bands nights in church hall dances ! My answer was are U CRAZY ? NO FNNN way ..From what I saw and heard He had leap frogged most drummers in our area ! Some of my close friends ended up playing with him in various bands but not for long as he was on his way then to GREATNESS ! Thank you Neil for the laughs and nights we talked about our love of Drumming ! Rip ❤ 😢
@@bdbuds1 Back then we were kids really . He was just Neil ..We were 2 guys that loved drumming and drummers like Keith moon and Bonham. We just played in area bands ! He was intense and just as nice a guy as u could know. It took him a long time to become as famous and well know as today ..He never stopped learning about the art of drumming and enjoying Life !!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
I've grown up in small towns. I've raised my family in one. I wouldn't have it any other way. I miss him too, far too often, especially now that I've been creating these videos. Thank you very much for being here! eric
I remember I was at work when the news came across my computer at work the Neil was gone. My co-workers didn't understand my grief when it happened. I was almost in tears. I am glad my wife and I got to see them in concert. Even my kids all know Rush. Neil was a class act. Private and removed from the fan base, but 1/3 of what the band was and a true driving force.
Thank you for sharing this. Your story is almost a clone of my own. Grief is the best word to describe what I suffered for six months. Saying this among most people would get me committed, but I think you understand. Thank you for being part of our Rush Family! - eric
You're very welcome, Robert. Thank you for watching and sharing this note with us. It is my honor and privilege to create these Rush videos. Knowing that you're here with us to remember and honor Neil and Rush, means the world to me. Keep in touch, Eric
Neil will live on in our hearts, our memories, and in his amazing music with Geddy Lee and Alex . Being a Niagara boy, Rush was always the first and the last record on the turn table 😢. Thats just my two thoughts on the greatest drummer to ever pick up the sticks . RIP professor you are greatly missed 😢 and truly loved ❤️ .
That's great! Many years ago, I flew into Toronto and Montreal on business. Seeing YYZ on my tickets was a dream come true. When I lived in Vermont as a kid, we would take field trips to Montreal. really good tribute to Neil and Rush, loved the small bits between, shows the humor they had/have, dressing up as the leprechauns/troll, hilarious, and the backstage bit, loved it, on par with their music. Rock on dudes and RIP professor, sadly missed but still among us
My heart hurts too. I miss Neil because he was also my mentor. Professor Peart inspired me musically and creatively. I strive to be a better writer, drummer, lyricist, teacher, and deep thinker because of him. As far as I know, Neil was a good man, a dedicated husband and father, and a fierce friend. Drumming aside, yes, a decent, humble, and honest human being. These traits are worthy of praise, and emulation. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad you're here! eric
I have been a Rush fan since the late 70's, and as a drummer, especially a Neil Peart fan. There is a lot of footage in this video I've never seen. Thank you for making and posting it!
You're welcome. You've been a Rush fan for ten years longer the me, and I'm thrilled that we're connected now, to honor Neil and Rush. Keep in touch bud, Eric
Just found this!! Losing someone is painful in all different ways. But I like to try and stay positive, in a Stoic kind of way. I lost my big brother back in 2002. The one memory I always have foremost in my mind is a Rush concert. We went to see Rush in Glasgow, Scotland and what a show it was. Then Rush released Exit Stage Left and what a surprise. We discovered that a song was recorded in Glasgow Apollo, with a mention on the record sleeve - "A special thank you to the Glaswegian chorus on Closer To The Heart" An apt song to remember my big brother by 😍 ❤ 🎸
What a touching memory. I'm sorry for your loss. One of the comments for this video said, "I can't watch this" and I know what he meant. I have to remain stoic to create all of these videos. Neil meant the world to me, and Rush has been with me since 1988. The memories we have, especially the surprise that you were there for the recording of Exit Stage Left, are what remains after our loved ones have passed on. Since Neil passed away, and with him Rush, listening to their music is bittersweet, and sometimes painful. Closer to the Heart and Time Stand Still make me emotional. But these are not alone, when I hear Neil's one-of-a-kind lyrics, or a beautiful musical passage, I think, "never again, it's over" and then I get choked up. Losing Neil and Rush cannot compare with your loss, but still it's a loss that we'll carry for the rest of our days. Moments ago, I responded to a comment sent from England. I told him I want to visit someday, but I dream of visiting Scotland as well. I'd love to take my wife to Ireland, because she's Irish, Scotland because its SCOTLAND, and England because I'm mostly English. For now this is filed in the someday category, and you know how often that file can be lost to time. It's so cool that you're here. Thank you for being part of our global Rush Family. Thank you Neil (named after Peart!) I remain surprised and honored by the outpouring of support from you guys. You have been here all along and I thank you for that, my friend. Talk to you soon, Eric
What I love about Neil is I am a drummer of more than 30 years and growing up listening to these guys I have grown to be able to write lyrics to many songs for myself, although they are for me I have also gotten more experience at writing the guitar parts, keys as well as bass lines for these songs.
Neil inspired me to strive to be a better writer, lyricist, drummer, reader, and deep thinker. Like many of our fellow Rush Family members, Neil was a mentor I never met. Geddy, Alex, Neil, plus a famous talk show host, taught me to always Strive for Excellence in everything I do. The relentless pursuit of Excellence. We may not always reach it, but we have to try. With everything I write, shoot, edit, and create, I consistently strive to take no shortcuts and to make every creation better than the last. Reaching for excellence applies to every facet of life, not just in the creative arts. I definitely miss not only his drumming but his travel books as well. I'm convinced that he was serious about his retirement. I don't think the other two could have convinced him to do another tour. It makes me so thankful that I went in 2015!! Every time I listen to Time Stand Still, I get choked up. RIP Pratt, GBNF!!
Hey, get out of my mind! 😉 I'm joking of course. Much of what you shared, I have thought too. Somehow I knew that R40 would be the last, so I brought my Dad and wife with me to see Rush in Boston for the final tour. Long before Neil passed away listening to these lyrics always choked me up. Of course, it's worse now. We were never promised an easy life, quite the opposite, but our relentless run towards the goal, no matter life's difficulties, is what matters. Ridiculous right?! Neil often joked about the stereotype of drummers being the dumbest guys in the band. Of course, this generality isn't true, but it helps shine a light on Neil's towering intellect. Among other drummers Neil was the smartest, most talented, and relentless guy in the room.

Thank you for being here.
Rest in Peace Neil, we miss you.

Take care my friend,
Eric
@@TheLoudboyExperience Thank you, I am still in the dark ages with tech...pure desktop. I never really got poetry until Peart's line in "Cold Fire": "Full moon rising lays silver at your feet." Epic line and one of many nuggets his writings. RIP Neal.
Life will never be the same without Neil Peart in the world.
You're right. Our Rush Family has been deeply affected and fundamentally altered by losing Neil Peart.

He’s adept at adaptation

I have always said - I have always said: "If just one of these guys - just one; it didn't matter which one - was no longer in this band. It would no longer be RUSH." Every true RUSH fan still grieves for Neil. Thank you Alex and Geddy for all the music, all the memories over the years. You could have never have done it without Neil Peart - and visa-versa 😊 God bless you and your families - your extended 'global' family loves you very - very much. "Long live RUSH! May their music forever echo into eternity!"
Thank you Dan. We're better with you being part of our family.
eric
Thanks again, Eric

I'm very glad you wrote. Our Rush Family is bigger and better with you here.
Keep in touch my friend, eric

54 year old Rush air, and steering wheel, drummer here. Bought a drum set 3 years ago thinking I knew every beat, every strike... I'm going to be Neil. Never been more disappointed in my life. But I'm getting better.
Good for you! 🙂 I want to return to proper drumming again. I've been pounding at my steering wheel for decades, but I want a drum set. Keep it up. Neil & Rush taught us that hard work and striving for excellence is the best way to live.
Take care, my friend, Eric
Keep it simple and Practice, Practice, Practice ! ❤
@vito9674 Wise words. Thank you 🙂
I just bought a set of drums after a 38 year hiatus, I am with ya, long road ahead
@sailrxsin Awesome! Keep us updated!
Eric
Peace,
Webb in ATL
Beautifully said. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your thoughts reflect my experiences, as I'm sure they speak for many of us. I dig your channel, Scott. I'm a huge YES fan as well. Hello Webb,
Webb is my grandmother's maiden name.
Thank you, my friend, Eric
PS: One of these days, I'm going to get back to proper drumming. I'm going to get a set of my own. It's been many years, but I look forward to hitting drums with sticks, instead of my steering wheel.
Neil left his mark on many lives, including mine.
You're right Alan. Are you from Florida? I hope is to move there as soon as possible.
Yes, Neil has left his mark on us and we're better for it.
Stay in touch bud,
Eric
Wow, thank you for saying this.
God bless you, sir.
Eric
I've been following the wildfires in California. I know that Neil, Carrie, and Olivia lived there. If Carrie and Olivia still live there, I hope that they are safe from danger.
My prayers are with them, their neighbors, and the firefighters.
"The arrow flies when you dream
The hours tick away, the cells tick away
The watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away, they tick away"
Rest in Peace Professor
Thank you
Always thought of him as the cool, smart, talented, older brother I never had. An absolutely devastating loss.
Thanks again bud.
This is fantastic. A great reminiscence to the greatest drummer in the world. There are parts I have never seen before. Bravissimo!
Thanks bud,
Eric
To the guys involved in the creation of this tribute i want to say thank you so much….
January 7 is a day that is for me bittersweet….
the happy day my beautiful daughter was born….
Is the day my favourite drummer died….
So after the fun of her birthday when she’s gone finally to bed…
I always take some alone time in the dark listening to rush songs…watching his solos…and finding snippets of Neil on you tube imparting his timeless words of wisdom….
And I will do this for the rest of my life…
Love you Neil …❤️🙏❤️x

Yes, he was and yes, he did!

Sigh. You're right. Our world without Neil Peart, and Rush isn't the same. I get emotional when I listen to Rush now because it's over, Neil has passed on, and Rush is no more. There will never be another Rush song, album, or concert. One of a kind, they were. Thank you for sharing this.
Eric
Miss you Neil! Thank you for everything. ❤️🥁
I like your channel, and I'm glad you're here.
Thank you, keep in touch, Eric
So much respect 🙏🙏🙌🙌
RIP Neil Peart- The Professor
I remember where I was and the shock I felt when we heard Neil had passed. My first LP, I ever purchased was Rush's Eponymous album. I have been a fan ever since. This is a great tribute to the Professor, I listen to the band at least once a week until I am no more!
Thank you for sharing this with us. We're happy you're here and part of our Rush Family.

I started on drums and switched to sax in early high school, lead singer, etc, but loved Rush through it all.
So many great memories. Thank you for sharing yours with us!

Suddenly -
You were gone
From all the lives
You left your mark upon
I remember -
How we talked and drank
Into the misty dawn
- I hear the voices
We ran by the water
On the wet summer lawn
- I see the foot prints
I remember -
- I feel the way you would
- I feel the way you would
Tried to believe
But you know it’s no good
This is something
That just can’t be understood
I remember -
The shouts of joy
Skiing fast through the woods
- I hear the echoes
I learned your love for life
I feel the way that you would
- I feel your presence
I remember -
I feel the way you would
This just can’t be understood…

Neil isn't truly gone. Millions of us absolutely can't stop thinking about him, talking about him, and saying his name... I'm not sure if immorality is humanly possible, but whatever Neil has achieved sure seems like at least a of version of immortality.
Rush will live on, as long we keep Neil's memory alive and continue sharing our favorite band. Thank you for helping to make this happen.
eric
I've stood amazed at several of you who have met Rush, washed motorcycles with Neil, or in your case lived nearby all of your life. The day I was born in 1974, was the day that Rush played their first American broadcast a couple states away.
Neil and the boys will not be forgotten, thank you for helping to ensure this!
Thanks for being here!

How do Rush Lyrics apply to modern life? A 30-song Deep Dive into Neil Peart's Lyrics:
ruclips.net/video/v_rSjVyGP10/видео.html
In the grand calculus of the universe, with a trillion variables and possibilities, Geddy, Alex, and Neil found each other through all that masquerade.
Somehow we found each other
Somehow we have stayed
In a state of grace
Thank you Mike G. I'm Eric G.
Keep in touch my friend,
Eric
PS A couple years before elementary school, I lived in upstate Clifton Park, NY
Thank you Richard,
Eric

Just wow.
Losing Neil had a profound impact on me. Losing Rush isn't easy either.
We have a lifetime of entertainment from Geddy, Alex and Neil. What a gift they've given us! These videos are my small way to give back.
Thank you bud,

RIP Perfesser Pratt 😢😢😢😢😢 Neil Peart spoke to us ALL through his Rhythms and his Prose!!
Beautifully said. Thank you, Eric
Amen, long live King Peart
Thank you, Mark,
Eric

My first son was at a Rush Concert, still in my wife's belly. He was kicking like a beast in her belly! Ironically, my same son saw the last tour of Rush before Peart's death.
Now that's a great story. You should be proud. Being a dad is one of the most important things we can do in life. Raising our kids to know Rush is priceless. ;-)
I played Rush on my wife's belly for our kids.

Thanks Ron,

@@TheLoudboyExperience Seen the band 13 times, first show in 1980. I subscribed to your channel, it looks great!
Damn.. this was so awesome and so very sad to me at the same time.

Rip ❤ 😢

Ahhhh. How refreshing! Nell Pert talking about his favorite subject...himself.
Gary

I remember I was at work when the news came across my computer at work the Neil was gone. My co-workers didn't understand my grief when it happened. I was almost in tears. I am glad my wife and I got to see them in concert. Even my kids all know Rush. Neil was a class act. Private and removed from the fan base, but 1/3 of what the band was and a true driving force.

I miss the professor!
I do too! We do too!
Thanks for being part of our Rush Family, keep in touch, Eric
What a fantastic video, thank you so much !!
Neil inspired me to found my own band (Kashmir) in 1985 and integrate my own drum solo into our concerts.
I also wrote the lyrics.
Some of my own lyrics (e.g. Nightingale, Rat Race etc.) include lines/words that refer to Neil´s lyrics, small tributes so to say.
Rush is my all-time favorite band.
Saw Rush live - with Nazareth - in Frankfurt in 1982.
Neil Peart is one of the major insporations of my life.
Life changing.
Always in my heart.
Thank you.
That's awesome that Rush inspired you to create music and lyrics of your own.
Like you, Neil's lyrics inspired me to create characters and places for my novel Aretherra. World building is hard, being inspired by one of the greatest minds on Earth helps.
I'm very happy you're here, please stay in touch.
Eric

@@TheLoudboyExperience fantastic.

Hey Loudboy! Great video! I love your channel, partly because you explore time signatures!!!!
Hey Earl! You honor me sir, thank you for your kind words.
I'm trying to remember which one, but in one of my videos I talk about The Body Electric and like a bone head, I start humming the 5/4 or 5/8 of Kid Gloves! LOL I'm just a jerk in progress, and far from perfect. Like you, the mastery of time signatures by Rush leaves me in awe. Drumming along on whatever surface I can find is the best part of my day. I love trying to keep up with Master Peart and the boys.
BTW, nice gun. I saw your channel. :-)
I'm really glad you're here bud,
Eric
Didn’t know him personally, thankfully he shared his talent with us… he’s remembered every time I put on Rush 😊
Thank you Neil
Exactly. Together, we'll keep Neil & Rush's memory alive.
Thank you for writing, Eric

Another wonderful tribute Eric, thank you so much.
Thank you, Michael. It's always wonderful to hear from you, and your kind words are a great encouragement to me. You're welcome.
I would be honored to have you with us when I begin hosting a livestream Rush show in the near future.
Take care my friend, Eric
1997 myself and a friend of mine had 2nd row seats on Alex's side outdoor shed Alex would come over a lot then about a month later went by myself to Toronto got interviewed by Q 107 if I remember correctly the call letters I sat with the pigeons, time machine went by myself in St.Louie 10th row Right Center on Geddy side they played Marathon 1 of my all time favorites like a streak of lightning that pleasures our face in the summer sky!! The music will live on forever, Take Care!
Hey Rich, thank you for sharing these great memories!
Like you, my first Rush concert, Worchester MA, Roll the Bones, I was on Alex's side and had a fantastic view of the entire stage.
I wonder if Marathon is overlooked and underrated. I for one, have always been encouraged by Neil's inspired lyrics. Marathon is a life lesson on how to live. We were never promised an easy life, quite the opposite, but our relentless run towards the goal, no matter life's difficulties, is what matters.
You can do a lot in a lifetime
If you don’t burn out too fast
You can make the most of the distance
First you need endurance -
First you’ve got to last…
Beautiful. Let's all stay strong and focused on what matters most in life. Dreamers turn and look at the stars!
Thank you for this great note, please keep in touch, Eric

Neil was the Greatest, nobody came close, apart from him being a fantastic drummer he wrote the lyrics, god bless you Neil RIP
Ridiculous right?! Neil often joked about the stereotype of drummers being the dumbest guys in the band. Of course, this generality isn't true, but it helps shine a light on Neil's towering intellect. Among other drummers Neil was the smartest, most talented, and relentless guy in the room. No one came close.
We lost a giant drummer, a mentor, and example when Neil passed away.
Thank you very much for your note. Stay tuned, more is coming.
