Very interesting . I am from Freemans village. I grew up hearing some of these stories from my own grandmother , great grand and elders in the village.

I just came across this discussion and is very informative and educational. I wish we were educated about our ancestry in school. I have learned more as an adult living in the US than as a child growing up in Antigua.

We came down to Antiqua for a family reunion! Too much tourism, and colonization, not enough independence, Islands Unite!!

i am a born Antiguan and iam fully aware of all the stories about us being brought out of Africa into Antigua as slaves, but i have a question, then why are we called west indians cause my mother always told me we are west indians not Africans, and are y'all aware of historical paper trail that exist to this day that can prove black indians were brought from north America to the Caribbean, spacificly to Antigua into slavery who later became negroes then antiguans to this very day.iam not knocking what y'all are saying,i just wanted to know if y'all are aware of that truth, and i believe what my mom said that we are indians especially after i started digging beyond what i been taught to believe.

We are not Indians! We are clearly African people - and proudly so. The Indians the Europeans were referring to at the time were the Caribs and Arawaks who were native to the region. Thus, the name West Indies/ West Indian.

@@rolam1883 speak for yourself, i can understand why you believe that millions of black people were brought from Africa to the Americas including the Caribbean on ships even though there are no historical evidence or documentation to support that , after all years of lies and mental programing is not easy to get rid of, so where are all the Arawak and carib i guess you believe that they kill off all of them. when the Europeans came to the Americas they met copper colored people there aka indians aka negros aka African American today but you can keep believing in your oppressors and colonizers liestory but i won't, why would your enemy Tell you the truth, i guess you want to stay in the matrix after all thats all you know so i don't blame you.
