    He was sacrificed in Washington, thanks to Mike Shanahan. Champ Bailey was a great return; perhaps the best trade in Bronco history. But the career of Portis suffered mightily.

    The Broncos got a better deal when they traded for Baily. Portis turned into a Prima Donna when after he was traded and said he was always hurt. In the mean time Baily played his best football with Denver.

      @@denverbroncosarchive2263I always wonder had he not been traded what kind of records he would have broke. He was tearing it up his 2 years with the Broncos. If you think about it we havent had a rb like that since Clinton Portis was traded.

    • @denverbroncosarchive2263
      @denverbroncosarchive2263  5 лет назад +3

      K L yes but you got to remember shanahan produced 6 other 1000 yard runningbacks alongside Clinton Portis. Every runningback succeeded in that system. We didn’t really need Portis. Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell did amazing replacing Portis.

    • @denverbroncosarchive2263
      @denverbroncosarchive2263  5 лет назад +6

      K L also don’t forget in 2004 when Portis was gone, Rueben Droughns came out of nowhere and finished top 10 in rushing in 2004. All the runningbacks were killing it. But you’re right though Clinton Portis would’ve went on to great things in Denver had he had stayed.

    One of the best draft picks of all time.
    Get him in 2nd ( Known to be 1st rd value at the time )
    Get 3 great years from him. If not his 3 best years , 3 of the 4 ( one season in Washington was similar to his Denver production )
    After 3 years trade him (pretty amicably) for Champ Bailey and a 2nd rounder ( Tatum Bell )
    Bell wasn’t as good as Portia of course , but he ended up giving pretty good production for a 2nd rounder overall.
    Champ is Champ.
