That positive wire to the valve controller should have had an inline fuse wired. Maybe he did so but, didn't show it? If not, suggest he take the extra 10-15 minutes maximum to put an inline fuse on that positive wire. The cigarette lighter adapter has a fuse in the cigarette/12 volt plug.
