Very good instruction for maintaining a clean Dyson cordless vacuum. I just cleaned my V7 Motorhead for the first time and found it a bit more challenging than cleaning my older V6 Animal. There is one area in the brush/ roller bar part that you did not cover and where I found A LOT of debris after using it for only one month so far. After I removed the brush bar and protective plastic piece using the coins to unscrew and remove those, I cleaned up and around the permanent rod piece, trying to wipe the clear plastic as clean as I could ......then I noticed a lot of dust and gunk at the very point where the cylinder rod thingy attaches.....there are a bunch of little gear-like notches that had collected quite a bit of debris and I had to use a dry toothbrush to really get in there and free it from al that stuff. I think this is an important place to clean and I am going to call Dyson on Monday to discuss it with them. In my older V6 Animal, with the old style brush, so much gunk built up in a similar place that eventually the brush stopped working and I had to either replace it at a cost of about $100 or upgrade, which is what I chose to do. The new method of emptying the bin is so much improved and worth upgrading for me. Let me know what you think of this suggestion? Thanx!

Thanks, this is very helpful. Just did the cleaning (which I dreaded, to be honest) but without having to dismantle all the parts was indeed easy a job and effective, too. Job done, vaccuum cleaning almost - accu is loading after two thirds of my flat.

Nice video :) thank you! I have however problems putting together the cleaning head again. I hope I can find it out. I am sure there is a trick, I just hadn’t figured it out yet. The same is with the bin. It was easier to put it apart than to put it together. Very helpful video but would have been nice to see as well, how to put the machine together again.

I agree. This video misses a major point, and I almost broke mine because of it. Putting it back together isn't 'simple and easy', and needed more explanation here. To put the bin back in place, the top part (that includes the filter with the blue cap) needs to be pulled back up to the top of the rails first. Although you'll naturally pull it up to the top of the rails before you start to clean it, someone (like me) might inadvertantly place it back down the rails while being cleaned, just for ease of handling. So it must be raised back to the top of the rails first. And then the bin will snap on fairly easily. But that's a major point, that needed to be clarified. Too many times when people explain devices like these, they explain taking it apart, but totally ignore how to put it back together again. In this case, that isn't necessarily easy, and isn't 'a given'.

Tip : to clean the Motörhead’s clear plastic put a wet wipe in and spin the brush up . Make sure the heads on a flat surface so the wipe isn’t spat out . Repeat a few times and it will be 99% clean 👍🏼

It is 10x easier to shove/push the hair off the roller than to try and cut every strand in half. With the roller removed, starting at the end with the slot, you can push off hair, all at one time, very cleanly. That's the only way I remove hair and it works perfectly every time. Takes about 3 seconds.

someone vacuumed up wet coffee grounds and now my dyson 7 smells like nasty burnt coffee. Your video was very helpful in cleaning it out. I've washed the filter but it still smells like burnt coffee. I don't think replacing the filter with a new one will be enough because the smell is inside the canister and even coming out of the vent from the motor. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of the smell.

You don't know how the cyclone actually works do you? "Legos in the ductwork next to the motorhead?" or in reference to the top of cyclone head: "The filter doesn't really let dirt get in here."
First, a lego could never begin to make it back there unless you liquified it first.
Second, the cyclones easily become covered in fine dust before making it to the washable filter - dirt goes up the vacuum tube, into dust bin, passes through mesh filter which filters out larger size debris, then travels up the cyclone tubes, then down through center of filter cylinder from the top, through the washable filter sides, then back up through the duct to the motorhead, aka: lego lair.
So yes, there can be quite a bit of nastiness built-up inside the cyclone tubes. The design would be much better if this were easily accessible for cleaning. For now compressed air & oversized pipe cleaners seems like the best approach.
