Where Kai the Hitchhiker Ended Up After Saving Woman in 2013

- You might remember Kai McGillvary, the Hitchhiker who turned into a viral sensation in 2013. He was interviewed on television about helping a woman in need. Today, he’s a convicted killer. A jury found him guilty of attacking a man to death, but he insists he’s innocent. “I didn’t realize he got killed. I didn’t know that,” he told Inside Edition in an exclusive jailhouse interview. Kai believes critical evidence was ignored or destroyed in his case and he’s filing an appeal. #InsideEdition
I feel bad for him, he looks like he is sad and confused and he probably is telling the truth

Don’t assume

He coulda got out without killing the guy proly but ya never know it coulda been just a push or the kick hes talking about ...a 74 yr old man can die easily from a fall etc...case should be looked at..kid is off tho for sure
More on this matter, the attorney of Kai posted this on his FB page. "This trial should have never been held in the same county where the victim (a lawyer) is friends with the Head Judge (or magistrate), the Prosecutor (Also a lawyer) and the Chief of Police.
Sounds like he will be freed soon to me. The appeal trial will be held in another county.

His reaction when the interviewer says “the murderer” tells me he’s never thought of himself as a murderer but yet someone who’s probably a peaceful person who will go to the extreme level 10 to protect himself and others from harm. Probably a victim of abuse and is not going to let anyone hurt him or others if he can stop it

Has to be something we're missing. I can tell you, based on personal experience, that emotion when he brings up the sexual abuse is very real. It takes something from you every time you're forced to talk about it and it kills you inside.
The case was massively corrupted, the attorney was friend with everyone in the NJ court system and his own brother rmwas allowed into the house where the dishwasher had been run.
Well said!
I watched his documentary on Netflix, I think what makes this case even harder is that Kai is mentally ill. He would publicly urinate everywhere, misbehave, display aggressive behavior, etc.
I think the whole situation is sketchy- what was an old Lawyer doing picking up a young homeless guy like that?
Heh. You're falling for it.

They're in a position of power , they know how society looks at lawyers and those in a position one considers "successful" , they know how society looks at the homeless and transients , using your authority and position to abuse others is sadly an everyday occurrence.

Because a successful, well respected person in a position of power can't be a good person and wish to help out a hitchhiker whom he possibly recognized from his previous interview videos?
Nah, he must have had some nefarious intentions... No way he was just a good person trying to help someone less fortunate...
Calling Kai a cold hearted killer seems too far. He seems like a good soul trapped in a clouded dark mind. I hope Kai is released one day and given a second chance instead of wasting away in prison
I hope he stays at your house when he gets out.
Worst thing about this is the fact that the interviewer is just casually asking Kai these questions when he knows this was obviously a very traumatizing and sensitive subject.

The judge was Galfy’s friend, the prosecutor was Galfy’s friend, and the police chief at the time was Galfy’s friend. Just let that sink in.

i really do think he is innocent or was at least acting in self defense. He got all tense & worked up when he started talking about that guy & he has a valid reason not to call the police.
He's a hustler and no one knows why he actually killed the guy. But being approached sexually by the man that I'm sure he knew expected something in return is not a reason for murder nor is it "self-defense".
Have in mind like the judge had that he may be a manipulator. They tend to act innocent to get something out of someone, in this case, freedom.
That old man drugged and molested him, but Kai woke up during that incident, and obviously went nuts like any individual would. The story is more graphic than Inside Edition would tell.

Absolutely surprising how many people will fully believe someone’s story if they express the proper emotions and speak with conviction.
My friend is a prison guard in Elizabeth, NJ jail. Kaj was imprisoned pre court trial. Kai was one of his inmates he had to monitor. He told me Kai would try to fight him and other officers. He smeared his feces on the wall to his cell. He's out of his mind.
Im curious if your friend also told you that Kai was in jail for 6 years (4 in solitary) before he got a trial?

free kai he looks hella innocent, that was self defense.
Mia Naomi The issue with the case is that although there was evidence Kai was drugged and sexually assaulted, the lawyer let him leave the next day and Kai came back to spend another night. Also, as horrific as sexual assault/rape is, Kais life was likely not in peril and did not need to kill the lawyer to get away.
Not saying I agree, but this is the rationale for the guilty verdict. I think something needs to be said about a young hitchhiker getting national praise for hatcheting a man to death to protect himself and others. IMO that could have given Kai the wrong impression about life.

As a Cna when you’re working in a nursing home you have to be very gentle with the patients because even holding their arm a little to tight could cause bruising or them just bumping their arm on a door or wall could cause bruising. he saw a 74 year old man on top of him. i don’t feel as if kai really wanted to hurt him like that but kai is young ,the dude is old. kai was clearly stronger and doesn’t bruise as easily as the older guy. that’s why he drugged him… but kai is innocent

Also lied about where he's from and gave a little smile and wink like he was pulling over one this interviewers eyes. They love to deceive. He's an illegal immigrant from Canada.
Then it comes out later, in a different interview, ruclips.net/video/QTNguT1a6q4/видео.html, that he was abused/molested, wanted to runaway from home as kid. Things that happen with young sociopaths. And they use empathy to get you on their side. Make it seem like they're the victim. They're also extremely impulsive and impulsiveness can lead them to risky situations, like murdering a guy when staying at his house. Something's off about this guy, you don't just happen to wind up in these messed repeatedly situations by accident.
And an indication of some sort of PTSD
@@danielsrare My thoughts exactly.
The sad part is if he ever goes in front of a parole board and sticks with his innocent account he might die in prison. He may be innocent or guilty but I'm not going to say because I didn't see the evidence.
Reporter is disrespectful, would have cursed him out for talking to me like that.
I want to see the full interview
I feel bad his eyes seem like he is telling the truth in some parts. Poor guy
That thing you notice in his eyes is insanity
in cognito right I think it’s funny how people assume he’s a hero or something because he went viral for “saving” that one lady... but seeing he’s involved in another persons death makes me question the validity of his first story as well... I’ve been on the streets like him hitchhiked from Tucson to Denver back down to Phoenix where I got picked up from my girlfriend and she took me back to Tucson and was never put in a situation where I had to kill someone, defend myself yes but not kill someone. So I find it extremely coincidental that he was in two situations where his only option when defending himself was to kill the person.
Vanilla Bean he didnt kill the first guy. The guy survived and went to trial!
Or the old guy saw him trying to steal his stuff and tried to stop him. Mr Drifter hitchhiker gotta get his money some how.
@@arizonachronicsmoker doesnt mean his situation couldnt have happened tho
really sad that he was dismissed because no one takes male sexual abuse seriously. :/ I want a re-investigation.
cough epstein cough weinstein cough nassar cough cough cough
DontTouchMeImCrazy cough dead cough about to be in prison for life cough cough already in prison for life cough cough cough
Sexual assault is sexual assault and should be taken seriously no matter who does it to who. To say anything otherwise is being a big part of the problem. Congrats, that’s you, a part of the problem.
The victim's wounds weren't self defense type of wounds, so Kai wasn't acting in self defense. He should've gone down to the police station and taken a rape exam and filled out a police report and then maybe he wouldn't be sitting in prison right now.
@@danklordsupreme8864 Yeah and all those women who complained years later about Cosby, Weinstein and Epstein should have just gone to the police too, right?
Before you make claims about the court dismissing his claims, you should know that he fled the scene of the crime after stealing his money.
What’s sad is he looks and even sounds like a completely different person here. His carefree demeanor from years ago is completely gone and now all you see is sadness and pain :(
I believe him. That "judge" is just protecting his own kind. The man Kai defended himself from was an attorney.
You wanna know what sucks? Is if he’s REALLY innocent. Nothing worse than telling the story how it really went down just for others to say they don’t believe you. Especially if the result is prison
Body language checks out. He's being honest
Well he clearly did kill the man but it does sound like self defense. You can tell Kai is crazy and has seen some bad stuff in his life. The old man took advantage of him and Kai snapped. Sad
He looks genuinely like he might be innocent ... That's bad enough to exaggerate the flaws in justice atm
It's tragic. When he was apprehended he immediately requested a rape kit and drug test to see if there was some knockout drug in his system, but they were just like "eh"
Very poorly executed investigation.
@@danielthemaniel7934 the dead man was a lawyer and cops brother so
The emotion in his eyes, he seems like he’s honest
yeah I did too, but when he said the judge called him 'Manipulative' that got me thinking outside of my emotions a bit more, but yes, there should be more investigation since the detectives missed a chunk of evidence
He seems like a psycho , the way he tries to apprehend himself to the interviewer seems too force like he’s putting on a act.
vincent perez possibly, I think he has a mental issue of some sort. But I’m not saying he is lying because of that,
vincent perez true but like if I was innocent and in jail for murder I’d go crazy to
sell the act too but like he might be a straight up killer
vincent perez if you want your voice to be heard badly without seeming too desperate you would also sound like this man genuine enough. What you want him to do cry begging for his innocence?
I really think that he is telling the truth, even those other bad incidents in his life, he was so open to share it to anyone.
WHO’s hear after watching the Netflix documentary
it broke my heart when the interviewer asked Kai “is it Kai the Hitchhiker or Kai the murderer”, Kai looked so hurt.
I would’ve cried if it was me
kai was like "wtf is this guy a dumbass"
Yea that was a dumb question
57 years like hell even someone did worse and couldn’t even get that much sentence.
Peppie Tree well he really isn’t going to serve all those years. He will probably get out in 15 years with good parole. In USA people don’t stay in USA prisons for murder. You get more time if you steal from the government.
lifenane1 tay k got 55 years for just being involved in a murder, not even pulling the trigger , idk what murders u know walking out quick
Kaede 👀
I feel a Netflix series coming soon? 🤔
A different person literally killed a toddler and was recently convicted to only 25 years. Shows the difference in judges
What happened to Kai is so sad. I believe his story, but even if his self defense story is not true and he DID plan this murder, he was obviously fuelled by trauma and anger at injustice. he didn't just plan to go kill an innocent man. he is not a stonecold psychopathic killer. it's crazy that pedophiles and rapists who knowingly destroy the souls of their innocent victims get less time. my heart was touched by this tragic story and I hope someday, somehow, kai finds peace and healing in this life.
The pain in his eyes, gotta feel sorry for this guy man
So an old rich powerful guy just lets a young homeless stranger stay at his home out of the kindness of his heart? 🙄
Yeah, you raise a good point there
Viviane B yea, one of the main reasons I believe his account, regardless of being well aware of how believably manipulative some people can be. We would’ve heard of it if they had any evidence that this man never invited him to his home. Did the jury think he did that to have him over for coffee or something? 🤦♀️. The guy got his in the end...who knows how many young homeless men he treated the same way in his past ... but now, because he’s poor and powerless, Kai has to spend the rest of his life in prison for not allowing himself to become a victim. Sad.
Exactly I read the police report their in no sign of braking and entering, so your right he invited him with bad intentions
@@twdjt6245 yeah, also maybe has been hitchhiking for quite sometime, if he was a dangerous murderer I'm sure he'd have a record. I wish I was a powerful lawyer to help him or if there was one to help him.
@Austin T. Probably rufied him
Bruh that rich guy most likely trying drug him no cap
If he was sexually assaulted the first time, why would he then go back to the man that assaulted him, embracing him etc?
The way he tells his story is believable... Unless he's an award winning actor.
My gut is telling me he’s innocent. At most give him manslaughter.
Involuntary manslaughter would he more suiting. Or life is honestly just that twisted. He saved one life and took another so give the nigga the BOTD
Well then your gut is as deficient as your brain.
Just let him off the hook completely.
Ballista Guard what would his motive be for killing some old dude trying to "help" him?
the dude a WHACKJOB keep him in the cell forever!!
If this was a woman in his situation she would’ve walked.
EXACTLY THATS WHAT I HATE LIKE WHY WHATS SO SPECIAL ABT WOMAN WTF IF IT WAS A WOMAN THEY WOULD SAY SHE WAS TRYING TO PROTECT HERSELF AND IM RIGHT HERS SO AS THE GUY THE GUY WAS TRYING TO PROTECT HIM SELF WTF IS WRONG WITH THEM ???
A woman would not have been able to do that kind of damage.
Joshua B bc a women never would beat someone to death, even in self defense
ok incel
@@coolgalxoxo7578 relax my friend
Who’s here after watching the Netflix special then ?
Justice for Kai last couple seconds of this video proves his innocence in his voice
