  • We put the new Chandler TG Microphone through its paces and go through a lot the different settings. All recording was done with an AEA TRP preamp to impart minimal coloration to the signal.
    Full session files can be downloaded at the link below. If you use ProTools, all the settings are labeled and playlisted on each track. If you're not using ProTools, all files are labeled and located in the "audio" folder.

    Thanks for such a good comprehensive demonstration of the mic. I loved also that on your vocal the line "I've got a feeling the best is yet to come" your dog wandered in. Perfect timing, That dog is a star 🙂🙂

    Hey man, great review. I've been following this mic since they announced it and this may be the best video I've seen so far that gives me a really good idea of what those initial tone adjustments do on the mic, especially in the sense of largeness that settings 1, 4 and 5 impart on the flat signal. I saw your post on GS and the amount of work it took to do this so, my hat's off to you. Very, very nice job.

      @ The Microphone Assassin - This right up your alley! Did you ever get to try it?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff 2 года назад +2

      @@ndavies8 Thanks for asking. Yes,I did. I had it for about a year then sold it. Unfortunately, it didn't really work out as a VO mic. I found it to be too sibilant on me. I think it's a mic that isn't really designed to close mic voices and is better suited at a distance. If I was still doing music, I would have kept it.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I'm starting to think this Mic is not as forgiving in vocal booths versus an open space, if it catches any slight resonance and the mic's already in say System A EQ 2 it will sound very bright and harsh. It needs a big enough space.

    Very nice run through on this mic! I like that it was a really nice song, and you edited the video in a really concise way. So many other reviewers do too much stopping and starting, and too much yap yap talking in between takes! High quality stuff here, and your studio looks really cozy and nice!

    _PAW-iano ftw!!_
    Nice viddy, w/ an excellent intro and examples highlighting the (very effective) circuit switching. :)
    This thing was a ninja on that kit - it seems a fine candidate for 117x / distressor parallel-crush duties, in addition to what everyone seems to be using it for (guitar cab).
    Perhaps I'm being a bit optimistic, but It also seems to bring a rather strident presence without being as harsh as most less-expensive LDCs are; which could help to flatter my (often too-)mushy bass-baritone.

    • @MillSounds
      @MillSounds  Год назад +1

      I don't like brighter microphones (usually), but the TG has a way of bringing a lot of presence and air without the harshness. It does need a little more distance on most sources, so you need a decent room to make the best of it.

    Maybe its just me man, but setting 5 on system A on Vocals sounds like a dam finished record. Thanks for your review brother. I just bought a TG, it should be here in the next few days God willing. That mic sounds absolutely amazing on you.

    • @MillSounds
      @MillSounds  4 года назад +1

      Be careful on setting 5 for vocals, you need a good singer (Not that I'm a good singer, but I had to be very conscious about not putting out too much air on that setting). If you have a booth or a smaller/deader room, setting 5 can sound great but really needs some space. If you can back it off the singer more than a foot and not have too much room sound, it sounds excellent. Most of the singers I've tried to close mic on setting 4 or 5 were too aggressive.
      Congrats on the mic, it's a great deal for the money!

    thanks for vid. also, your snare sounds incredible. what is it?

    • @MillSounds
      @MillSounds  4 года назад

      It's a 60's Ludwig marching snare, 15x12. I've got a Big Fat Snare Drum Donut head on top to get a deader sound. It kills resonance enough to where you can tune the snare wires really loose and still have them level out and shut up pretty quickly. It's really helpful when I do minimal mic'ing stuff like that where I might not have a mic under the snare drum. You hear the wires rattling, but it's still somewhat controlled.

    setting 2 is a treble boost I though

    • @MillSounds
      @MillSounds  4 года назад

      It sounds like a treble boost to me as well, it's definitely "brighter". Chandler described it to me as actually taking away mid range and low end to give the perception that it's brighter. More of a "subtractive" approach than an additive one. With out a doubt a brighter setting though!
