Exactly the same thing happened to my Room 799 So I bought a Brush Deck Gearbox replacement for Roomba 600 700 Series - GRAY Gears / eBay :) $20

On mine, the roller brushes had stopped working - ended up being a load of fluff and dog hair in the gearbox. Luckily, mine wasn't worn.
Cleaned it, put it back together, all working again.
Our Roomba is 5 now - it lives to clean another day.

great video. mine was also a problem in that gear box. no wearing, pin for drive gear had slipped out.
