  • This is my personal experience with dyslexia. It should give you an idea of what it is like to be dyslexic. In my case, it involved moving countries, battling teachers' bad perceptions of me and my abilities, and not being accommodated while being a known dyslexic. Ultimately, I consider myself a success story even though the effects of failing over and over again are still with me. As a dyslexic, one of the fundamental skills (phonemic awareness) to become a skilled reader is missing. Without developing this skill, learning to read is like building a house with an impaired foundation. In that sense, I was set up to fail, but at the same time, I also knew that teachers just didn't have all the information to help me.
This is the most personal video I have ever made, and even though it feels a little vulnerable to post it, I believe some of you might need to hear it. It may give you hope in difficult times. And I think we all benefit from a reminder that we are not alone in this.
