Game of Thrones - The Rains of Castamere (Piano Version)
Piano Version by Patrik Pietschmann
After my "The Hobbit - Misty Mountains (Piano Version)" video, I thought why not also add the most famous vocal song from the "Game of Thrones" universe to my RUclips catalog. Also, the trailer for the "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon" came out recently. Probably the biggest thing the two songs have in common is that the lyrics are part of the original books ("Misty Mountains" lyrics by J. R. R. Tolkien and "The Rains of Castamere" lyrics by George R. R. Martin"). Both songs are sung by actors in the films, and the melodies are also used in the instrumental film scores. But what I particularly appreciate about "The Rains of Castamere" is that film composer Ramin Djawadi wrote the melody for the song himself. For "Misty Mountains", on the other hand, an external team of composers was hired. There are three well-known vocal versions of "The Rains of Castamere" by The National (Season 2), Sigur Ros (Season 4) and Serj Tankian (Season 8) and the popular instrumental version "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts" (Season 3). My piano version is mainly based on the version with Serj Tankian, but also has influences from "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts". I hope you like it! When that song began playing during the Red Wedding it was almost as if Tywin himself had entered the room. Instant chills.
I think about this song a lot.
It’s a fan favorite, even though at the time it represented betrayal within the lore, and performed during one of the most jaw dropping betrayals.
It’s such a solid song that it will outlive the series in some regards.
We have been betrayed by the show, but we still have the song.

I love how it starts off so gentle and beautiful, like a lullaby. But then comes the power, followed by a sense of fear and foreboding.

You capture the very emotions the original soundtrack gives no matter the instrument used in it, only with a piano. Not just this , but most if not all of your arrangements
I personally haven’t heard rains of castamere since whenever I listen to got music I gravitate towards light of the seven,needle, or the night king. But this is beautiful. Imma give this one a listen too now

This is amazing! Your cover is beautifully powerful and encapsulates a whole range of emotion. I especially liked the the portion starting at 2:05 and the following transitions between keys. Overall, this was a great and unique take on an excellent song!
Also, have you considered trying to cover some music from the new Dune film? In my opinion, it is some of Hans Zimmer’s best work in recent years.

@@PatrikPietschmann the soundtrack isn't super musical, but Zimmer also released The Dune Sketchbook which expands a lot on the musical themes. The songs The Shortening of the Way and Paul's Dream might give you something to work with. Your musical interpretations are awesome 🎹

Your skills and arrangements never fail to demonstrate the potential of the piano to create a whole symphony on its own. Not to mention the gorgeous lyricism and storytelling. Some pianists at your level like to dazzle ppl with their technical skill and while you do that I can hear the humanity behind every phrase, the way you shape them brings out new insight into how the music reflects the characters’ external and internal conflicts, and it’s simply breathtaking.
