Hi Matt, Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question on the GYA553 using the CIU-3 Adapter. As usual your videos are very well explained and easy to follow unlike the Futaba Instructions. I'll be ordering my CIU-3 tomorrow. Cheers for now !! 👍
Hello again Matt, I just wanted to let you know that my CIU-3 USB arrived this wknd and I've updated the Gyro without too much fuss. Not sure if the USB is a necessity in terms of making the gyro do additional things for my aircraft however, as you mentioned in the video it might rectify firmware patches which we don't see in the background like most updates. Anyway, thanks again for your helpful videos. Looking out for the next one 🙂@@MattTakharRC
I’m glad it went smooth for you 👍🏽. I’ll create some more videos on the CIU-3 in the coming months. I have a few others in the queue first. Never enough time 😁
Thanks for the video it was very helpful. I just got my 553 gyro and after going through all the steps it said There is no update file. I hope that means the gyro is updated to 3.0 already.
Hi Matt, My wife and I really enjoy your videos many thanks for making them and sharing with us. We have also struggled with the vagaries of the GYA553 so this latest video was of great interest to us. We do not own a CIU-3 so could you please tell us what is the benefit of updating the GYA553 which would be nice to know before we purchase one. We don not recall you mentioning in the video what the update actually does. Thanks in advance, happy landings.......
Hi Andrew, thanks for the feedback and really glad you’re both enjoying the videos. The new firmware includes a few new features, which I suspect most people probably won’t use. There in the back of the manual which I will link below. Having said that that some times new firmware will also include bug fixes. Software manufactures don’t always list out what they have fixed. I only updated mine as another follower on the channel asked if I could film the process. The CIU-3 can also be used to program the Futaba ESCa and S-Bus servos, which you may find useful if you use them. If you’ve got multiple GYA553s and/or SBUS servos, ESC etc then it’s probably worth buying. futabausa.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/GYA553_Up_V3E_Letter.pdf
Be aware that if using the 553 gyro with the DLPH version 2 and the 2 Rx, the telemetry does not work. I was about to get one for my build until I read the instructions. I called Futaba. Great customer service, as no one answered but called me back later. I asked if there was some hack and the Futaba tech said there is no way around it. So that's that😢 I went with the Powerbox Mercury🥰
Hi Matt,at 12:43 the message on the screen says the ciu it's not connected, but it was for sure connected...,so..., i have the same message when i'm trying to update the gyro ,but i don't know what to do so the windows see the ciu usb adapter .Can you tell me please what I must do so the ciu adapter windows see it? Thanks in advance
Hi. Do you have the Windows Driver installed? If that’s not installed or Windows doesn’t recognise the device then it won’t work. Check in Windows Device Manager. You will either see it under USB or you will see something called “other device” which means it doesn’t have the driver.
Hi, i double click the driver from futaba website and i believe that must be installed. But i don't see anything at the device manager that makes me feel confident that the software is installed. So i don't know what else to do. I am not an expert on pc's. Very confusing set up.
@@ntka100 that’s frustrating. If the software isn’t seeing the CIU then it must be the driver. I’m sure you’ve tried the obvious things. Remove the CIU, full reboot, wait for the PC to fully start up then reinsert the CIU. Then load the software up. I’ve just got a new PC for the workshop and will be going through this myself shortly. I’ll try and film it again, hopefully next week depending on how the current project goes. Failing that feel free to email me and I’ll try and help further. Matt.Takhar AT Gmail.com.
Hi Matt, i just did a full reboot and nothing happened. Same as before. I don't understand what is the problem. I 'll try to find a pc from a friend and i ll do the procedure again but on my friend pc. I let you know. Thanks Matt, we will talk soon

Thank you for this video, following your steps I was bale to update a GYA553!
You're welcome!
hi matt great video ..any chance you be able to check out recovery mode , be good addition to these videos as nothing out there .
Recovery mode on the gyro? I've not tried that yet. I'll set it up in my new Skywing laser, just building it now.
Hi Matt, have you ever use the GPB-1 for setting up the gy553 for a plane? Do you know if can be done?
Hi. No sorry I haven’t and I don’t know much about it. I’ll add it to my list to research!

I would presume so. I'll try updating mine again to see if I get the same message (as its now on v 3)
