    Don’t believe any of this garbage..I have lived here for 28 years. It’s now for most people completely out of reach! Housing and rent prices are through the roof! Average home price even for a peace of crap is over 300 to 400,000! Rent 2,000 or more a month for a closet! Good paying jobs for the average person are few and far between. Florida is a right to work state so wages are nowhere near what you would expect. Mostly service industries here!! Traffic is hell on earth! Forget going to the beaches because there’s no place to park! If you do find a place except to pay too!! Come for a vacation..enjoy it.. forget moving here! It’s just not worth it!! Pretty soon most Floridians will be living on the streets it’s gotten so expensive!!

    Wow, these sound like great options for retirement. I like the idea of living close to beaches in a walkable, dog friendly place. which one is most like that?

    • @Tlyna1952
      @Tlyna1952 Год назад +2

      Well I live in Punta Gorda in a 55+ community which is farther from Charlotte Harbor and the canals but a lot less expensive and so safer from storm surges which causes the most damage. Yes we were given a direct hit by hurricane Ian last year, in fact the eye went right over us. Nearly all of us had some damage and not all of it has been repaired yet because the good construction companies have so much work backed up. Do I regret living here after that? No, I still love this town. The people are friendly there is a nice beach at Ponce De Leon Park on Charlotte Harbor, not for swimming but people sunbathe and go there to watch our frequently quite beautiful sunsets, also there is a small wildlife sanctuary in the park. The reason for not swimming is it also has Alligator Creek which runs through an environmental parks so yes alligators. On the other side of the Peace River Port Charlotte has a very nice beach for swimming which is only a few minutes away. If you want to go to the Gulf Ft Myers to the south or Boca Grande to the west, both about 45 minutes away. There is a beautiful riverfront walk from Fishermen's Village through town and out past Laishley Park and Veterans Park (side by side) on the other side. People walk there (yes frequently with their dogs, bike of just go visit the parks like those mentioned and Gilchrist Park. There are a lot of small parks and walking trails throughout the town as well. As she stated the town is mostly retirees so younger people often don't like the town but if is a very laidback and lovely place. There are a large number of military retirees here as well which is how we were able to get a half size exact copy of the Vietnam Wall in our Veterans Park. Crime rate isn't bad, mostly shop lifting and breaking into cars, little in the way of violent crime and then usually it is someone from somewhere else doing it. We did have a major shooting spree downtown last year (first ever such thing) but again it was someone from a major town that did it. Mostly very peaceful. Downtown is very small with green areas all through it. Summers here can be very difficult for some to deal with as that is when it gets to be in the 90s every day with frequent afternoon storms which causes the humidity to go up but if you can adapt to that it is lovely. Not much in the way of mosquitoes as they spray frequently at night during the wet season and if you sign up to Alert Charlotte they will let you know when that will happen. If you can handle the summer heat and the possibility, no probability of getting hit by hurricanes then it is a great place to live. I used to live in southeast Michigan, about 40 miles from Detroit. I prefer here.
