past means past beyond, by itself it means past top of hour(and top of hour means 00 minutes/top of clock), bottom of hour means 30 minutes (bottom of clock), quarter means 15 minutes in direction indicated, so it goes, hour(hour and 00 minutes) quarter past hour( hour and 15 minutes) bottom of the hour(hour and 30 minutes) quarter past bottom of the hour/quarter before hour(means hour and 45 minutes)

So, I'm not proud, but I was in county for four months once. They were backlogged so bad that my court date was 4 months away from the time I was arrested on a misdemeanor charge. I refuse to go to what they called D-Block so instead they put me in A-block which held nothing but felons. There were five different murderers there and a bunch of home invasions and some legit drug trafficking. I swear to God I met this dude there.
