Brokeback Mountain was the best film of 2005. At the Academy Awards it won Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score, but didn't win Best Picture, because of it's gay content. Crash, a hack film in comparison, won Best Picture, because they campaigned hard, the film was locally produced (in LA and Hollywood), and it wasn't gay.

i AGREE IT IS ONE but some friends have suggested it is too unlikely, or they are into particular genre, that this was just romanticism. I am proof it is not so having had a very similar experience in Italy while going to school there. The small things that the producer did are astounding, a small thing like leaving the refrigerator door open when it did not close, as it would happen in real life. etc, etc............. Ahhh, just about to type this. The director took great pains to recreate the 80s in this film, taking John Hughes films as inspiration. "Those people" is a brilliant movie, in which you can skip the first 20 minutes. It's a relationship/romance movie since everyone is comfortable with their sexuality, and yet pain is still very much a part of life. There are some amazing shots. The director should get an award and so does Charlie (main character).
I completely agree that "Call me by your name" is number one. I found it an outstanding work of filmmaking, more than just a "gay movie" and if your going to call it that then its the best in my book. I've seen on lists as low as number 13, I totally disagree. There is about ten better movies than the ones shown here. Undertow, Brokeback Mountain, Beautiful Thing, Plan B, The Way He Looks, Pride, Gods Own Country, Hidden Kisses, Just a Question of Love and 4th Man Out. God I don't see how Call Me by Your Name could beat any of the ones I've mentioned. The story of an older gay man seducing a kid is nothing new (I think it's just a bunch of old queens trying to relive their youth). The last 20 minutes of the movie I thought was stupid. I couldn't agree more!! There have been so many better films than Call Me by Your Name like the ones you have named. I can't believe an older man seducing a child has become the centre piece film of gay cinematography. The movie is about 17 yr old in love with "24" year old who actually looks 35.
